Introduction

MAP International is a global Christian health organization that exists to provide

medicines, prevent disease, save lives, and build healthier communities around the world. For

over 60 years, MAP has committed itself to serve the world’s most vulnerable populations

through medical assistance, health training, and sustainable health initiatives. MAP’s programs

have touched the lives of millions of people in over 100 countries, making it one of the most
4

successful global health organizations in the world today. The organization's mission is to serve

as a bridge between those who have access to healthcare and those who don’t, providing vital

resources and services to help break down global health disparities. MAP International is a great

example of a company that has managed to keep its debt levels low and maintain strong

profitability (Leclerc 2010). By keeping its debt low and utilizing other forms of financing,

MAP International has been able to remain competitive in the market. The organization has a

number of programs designed to tackle health issues in both preventative and supportive ways,

from providing basic medical supplies to offering training and education in disease prevention.

Its programs and services are designed to address the critical health needs of individuals

and communities who are affected by poverty and other forms of displacement. MAP’s

partnership with local health organizations, donor countries, and hundreds of other

organizations has ensured that their work is able to make a real difference in the lives of people

living in poverty. The charitable organization has a staff of 1400 individuals and works with

3,000 partners in over 100 countries. MAP International is also known for its robust financial

accountability, having earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator for the past 14 years.

Their mission is to bring dignity and hopes to the world's most vulnerable populations by

providing humanitarian aid, and they strive to do this through innovative health programs and

access to quality medicines. Today, MAP International faces the challenge of continuing to

provide medical aid while also responding to the global pandemic and its effects on the people

they serve.

MAP International and other aid organizations face the following challenges,

Difficulties with logistics and transportation in delivering aid to remote or conflict-affected

5

areas. Funding and resource constraints limit the ability to help those in need. Political and

security challenges, such as conflict and civil unrest, can make providing aid difficult, if not

dangerous. Corruption and theft can lead to aid not reaching its intended recipients. Red tape

and bureaucratic stumbling blocks can slow or prevent aid from reaching those in need. The

challenges outlined above are significant and can jeopardize the ability of an organization like

MAP International to continue to provide aid. Logistical issues can limit the effectiveness of aid

delivery and ultimately reduce the impact of its International efforts. Financial constraints can

prevent MAP International from reaching even more people in need (Stirling 2019). Political

and security challenges can make it difficult to safely provide aid in certain areas, while

corruption and theft can keep aid from reaching its intended recipients. Human resources play a

crucial role in supporting organizations to address the challenges they face.

Human resources can advise and counsel the organization’s leadership on the

effectiveness of their programs, advise them on how best to manage and deploy personnel, and

ensure the organization’s programs are properly monitored and evaluated. Human resources can

also work with the organization’s partners to coordinate logistics and ensure resources are being

used as efficiently as possible. Human resources can also provide guidance and support to staff,

who may be operating in difficult or dangerous environments or facing difficult ethical

decisions or dilemmas. They can help identify and mitigate risks associated with delivering aid

in difficult or dangerous areas and assist in managing personnel in such settings. Human

resources can also play a crucial role in developing strategies to overcome bureaucracy or

corruption and ensure that aid is reaching the people that need it most. Even when faced with

the daunting challenge of delivering aid to remote or conflict-affected areas, human resources

can provide critical insight and guidance to help the organization surmount these difficulties.
6

Human resources can help aid organizations identify logistical solutions to overcome

transportation issues, devise strategies to make the best use of available funds and resources,

strategize ways to address political and security concerns safely and develop policies and

procedures to foster transparency and minimize corruption. It can also work with local partners

and governments to cut through red tape and reduce bureaucratic barriers (International

Business Publications 2009).

Conclusion

To condense it, MAP International is a valuable organization dedicated to improving the

health and well-being of people in need around the world. The challenge of increasing demand

for its services is significant, but the organization is well-positioned to continue making a

positive impact in the world for years to come with the support and guidance of its human

resources. Their primary focus is on ensuring access to essential and life-saving medicines, but

they also work to improve healthcare systems and reduce the burden of neglected diseases.

MAP International has served more than 120 million people in over 70 countries, making them

a leader in global health initiatives.
