EMOTIONAL SUPPORT PICKLE
B E G I N N E R C r o c h e t P a t t e r n b y M i s s W i t c h C r a ft s
This beginner friendly pattern uses super bulky yarn and adorable details to
help you make every girl’s best friend - an emotional support pickle. He may
be just a little plush pickle, but he’s kind of a big dill. He may not be girl
dinner, but he won’t judge you for girl dinner. He just hopes you love him,
warts and all.
While the piece is worked mostly in simple single crochet stitches, please
read all pattern notes for additional stitches and information.

PATTERN
PATTERN NOTES:
Additional Stitch: Bobble (bbl) - this is a slightly puffy stitch
that will create “warts” on the pickle. If you would prefer a
smooth skin pickle, please work a normal sc instead of a bbl
into the designated spaces.
How to do the stitch: Please note that bobble stitches can be
done in MANY different ways. For THIS pattern, the bobble will
consist of 2sc. Please work the stitch in the following way:
Insert the hook into the designated stitch, YO and draw up a
loop. YO and pull through 1 loop on the hook. Insert the hook
into the same stitch, YO and draw up a loop. YO and pull
through 1 loop on the hook. There should now be 3 loops on the
hook. YO and pull through all remaining hooks.
Note: Your bbl may puff to the inside of the piece. Gently press
the inside of the stitch to puff it outward before stuffing and
closing up the piece.
Additional Stitch: Sc2tog - single crochet 2 together (aka
decrease). This will decrease 2 stitches into 1.
How to do the stitch: Insert the hook in the next st, YO and draw
up a loop. There should be two loops on the hook. Insert the
hook in the next st, YO and draw up a loop. There should be
three loops on the hook. YO and draw through all 3 loops on the
hook to complete the stitch.
I use 10mm plastic safety eyes, but you can substitute any eyes
you have on hand (that won’t slip through the stitches) OR use
black yarn to embroider eyes instead (which would make the
plush safer for all ages).
Work in a spiral OR sl st to join at the end of each round, based
on your preference.
Instead of a Magic Ring, you can chain 4 and sl st to the first
chain to create a ring to work into.

PLACE THE EYES: If using safety eyes, this is a good point at
which to place them. Find a space on the piece in between
rounds 11 and 12, and place the eyes 2 to 3 stitches part. If using
yarn to sew them on, they can be placed later when adding
details after closing.
ROUND 14:
Sc2tog 6 times. (6) Leave a tail for finishing.
CLOSE UP THE PIECE:
Using the finishing tail and yarn needle, whip stitch through
each stitch of round 14 and gently pull on the tail to cinch the
end closed. Tie off and hide the end inside the piece (or trim).

ADDING DETAILS:
If you did not put on safety eyes prior to closing, you can
embroider them on now.
Add them in roughly the same space you would have put safety
eyes.
To make a smile:
Using the yarn needle and thinner yarn or thread in desired
color, “embroider” on a smile.
I achieve this by inserting the hook into a stitch elsewhere on
the body, then feeding it out at the start of where I want the
mouth, usually just below one of the eyes. Lay the line across
the stitches and insert the hook below the other eye so that it
lines up similarly. Feed the needle down to where you first
inserted and out. Tie a knot to secure both ends, then hide
them in the piece.
If you have a preferred method of embroidering a mouth onto a
plush piece, please feel free to work in that way to make your
emotional support pickle uniquely yours!
