- Tuesday: Explain the purpose and functions of server-based and peer-to-peer networks.
- Wednesday: Identify and illustrate cable types and wiring standards (T568A, T568B).
- Thursday: Demonstrate making straight-through and crossover cables.
- Friday: Apply networking concepts by setting up a simple LAN activity.
B. Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of the basic concepts and fundamentals of
networking.
C. Performance Standards:
The learner sets up a simple network and demonstrates correct cable configurations.
D. Learning Competency / Code:
MELC: Explain fundamental concepts and principles of networking.
II. CONTENT
Fundamentals of Networking:
- LAN, MAN, WAN, PAN, SAN, VPN
- Server-based and Peer-to-Peer networks
- Cable Configurations (Straight-through and Crossover using T568A/T568B)
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson:
Recall basic hardware components and their role in networks.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:
Explain how networking is essential in modern communication and business.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson:
Discuss real-world examples of LANs (schools), WANs (the internet), VPNs (remote access).
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1:
Lecture and visual aids on types of networks and cabling standards.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2:
Hands-on demo: Create straight-through and crossover cables.
F. Developing mastery (Formative Assessment):
Pair activity: Identify scenarios and classify the type of network.
G. Finding practical application of concepts and skills in daily living:
Relate networking to home Wi-Fi, office LANs, and online classes.
H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson:
Students summarize the key differences between LAN, MAN, WAN, etc.
I. Evaluating Learning:
Practical test: Create a functional straight-through cable.
Written quiz on network types and cable standards.
J. Additional activities for application or remediation:
Research activity: Students present modern uses of VPNs and cloud networks.
V. REMARKS
Prepare crimping tools, testers, and cables ahead of time for hands-on activities.
