COURSE OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course student will be able to

CO1: Interpret the problem in real time applications, and apply the appropriate data mining technique
for effective results.(L2)
CO2: Apply different conceptions of data mining and compute OLAP operations.(L3)
CO3: List associations and correlations in the given Information domain.(L1)
CO4: Apply basic techniques of classification for various applications like banks, health organizations
etc.(L3)
CO5: Analyze the real time data using various clustering techniques.(L4)

UNIT-I (10 Lectures)


Introduction: Fundamentals of data mining, Data Mining Functionalities, Classification of Data Mining
systems, Major issues in Data Mining, Data Warehouse and OLAP Technology for Data Mining Data
Warehouse, Multidimensional Data Model, Data Warehouse Architecture, Data Warehouse
Implementation, Further Development of Data Cube Technology, From Data Warehousing to Data
Mining,

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the module, students will be able to
 Describe concepts of data mining and its functionalities. (L2)
 Classify OLAP technology, warehouse architecture and its implementation. (L4)
 Develop the data cube technology. (L3)

UNIT-II (10 Lectures)


Data Preprocessing: Needs Preprocessing the Data, Data Cleaning, Data Integration and Transformation,
Data Reduction, Discrimination and Concept Hierarchy Generation, Online Data Storage.

Data Mining Primitives, Languages, and System Architectures: Data Mining Primitives, Data Mining
Query Languages, Designing Graphical User Interfaces Based on a Data Mining Query Language
Architectures of Data Mining Systems,

At the end of the module, students will be able to
 Demonstrate data preprocessing. (L3)
 Explain the primitives and query languages of data mining. (L2)
 Build GUI based data mining query language. (L3)

Concepts Description: Characterization and Comparison: Data Generalization and Summarization-Based
Characterization, Analytical Characterization: Analysis of Attribute Relevance, Mining Class
Comparisons: Discriminating between Different Classes, Mining Descriptive Statistical Measures in
Large Databases.

Mining Association Rules in Large Databases: Association Rule Mining, Mining Single-Dimensional
Boolean Association Rules from Transactional Databases, Mining Multilevel Association Rules from
Transaction Databases, Mining Multidimensional Association Rules
from Relational Databases and Data Warehouses, From Association Mining to Correlation Analysis,
Constraint-Based Association Mining.

 Illustrate the analytical characterization and mining class comparisons. (L4)
 Categorize different levels of mining association rules in large databases. (L4)

Classification and Prediction-1: Issues Regarding Classification and Prediction, Classification by
Decision Tree Induction, Bayesian Classification, Rule-Based Classification, Classification by Back
propagation.
Classification and Prediction-2: Support Vector Machines, Association Classification, Other
Classification Methods, Prediction, Accuracy and Error Measures, Evaluating the Accuracy of a
Classifier or Predictor.

At the end of the module, students will be able to
 Explain issues regarding classification and prediction. (L2)
 Apply basic techniques of classification like Decision tree, Bayesian, rule –based and
back propagation. (L3)
 Illustrate support vector machines and other association classifications. (L4)
 Compare accuracy of a classifier and predictor. (L4)
