Section Formula Activity Worksheet
Objective: Apply the section formula to find the coordinates of a point dividing a line segment in a
given ratio.
Instructions:
1. Plot the given points A and B on graph paper.
2. Use the section formula to find the coordinates of the point dividing AB in the given ratio:
P(x, y) = ((mx■ + nx■)/(m+n), (my■ + ny■)/(m+n))
3. Mark and color the division point using the specified color.
4. Repeat for all line segments.
Color Code:
- Red: 1:1
- Blue: 2:1
- Green: 3:2
- Orange: 3:1
- Purple: 1:2
Point A Point B Ratio (m:n) Color
(2, 4) (10, 8) 2:1 Blue
(1, 2) (7, 6) 1:1 Red
(3, 5) (9, 2) 3:2 Green
(0, 0) (8, 4) 3:1 Orange
(4, 1) (10, 9) 1:2 Purple
Graph Section (for plotting):
Use the following space or attach graph paper to draw Cartesian planes and plot your points.
