Merits of Omar Ibn Khattab (Radi Allah Anhu)
All praise be to Allah the Lord Sovereign1 of the universe and may Allah praise His Prophet Muhammad and his household. Most of things in this article are copied from a book Fazail-e-Sahaba which is referenced and edited by Shaik Zubair Ali Zai.
These are few of his merits, Our beloved Allahs Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) prayed to Allah: O Allah, strengthen Islam with whichever of these two men is dearer to you. Abu JahI or Omar ibn al-Khattab. And, Omar (Radi Allah Anhu) was the one of the two dear to Allah. (Tirmidhi: 3681)
Abdullah Bin Masood (Radi Allah Anhu) Said: We have been powerful since 'Omar embraced Islam. (Bukhari: 3684)
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: "Amongst the people preceding you there used to be 'Muhaddithun' (i.e. persons who can guess things that come true later on, as if those persons have been inspired by a divine power), and if there are any such persons amongst my followers, it is 'Omar bin Al Khattab." (Bukhair: 3469)
Allahs Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: Surely, the devil is afraid of you, 0 Omar. (Tirmidhi: 3690)
Allahs Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, I saw, indeed, that the devils both of jinn and mankind fled from Omar, (Tirmidhi: 3691)
Merits of Omar Ibn Khattab (Radi Allah Anhu) Then Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, "O Ibn Al-Khattab! By Him in Whose Hands my life is! Never does Satan find you going on a way, but he takes another way other than yours." (Bukhari: 3683)
Allahs Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, Surely, Allah brought the truth on the tongue of Omar and his heart.(Ibn Hibban: 2184)
Allahs Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, If there were to be a Prophet after me then he would be Omar ibn Al-Khattab. (Tirmidhi: 3690)
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: The one who adheres most sternly to the religion of Allah is Omar (Ibn Maja: 154)
Allah's Apostle (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, "While I was sleeping, I saw myself drinking (i.e. milk), and I was so contented that I saw the milk flowing through my nails. Then I gave (the milk) to 'Omar." They (i.e. the companions of The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) asked, "What do you interpret it?" He said, "Knowledge." (Bukhari: 3681)
When (the dead body of) Omar ibn Khattab was put on his deathbed, the people gathered around him and invoked (Allah) and prayed for him before the body was taken away, and I was amongst them. Suddenly I felt somebody taking hold of my shoulder and found out that he was 'Ali bin Abi Talib. 'Ali invoked Allah's Mercy for 'Omar and said, "O 'Omar! You have not left behind you a person whose deeds I like to imitate and meet Allah with more than I like your deeds. By Allah! I always thought that Allah would keep you with your two companions, for very often I used to hear the Prophet saying, 'I, Abu Bakr and Omar went (somewhere); I, Abu Bakr and 'Omar entered (somewhere); and I, Abu Bakr and Omar went out."' (Bukhair: 3685)
The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) saw Omer ibn Khattabs Palace in paradise. (Bukhari: 3242)
Merits of Omar Ibn Khattab (Radi Allah Anhu) The Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) gave the glad tidings that Omar ibn Khattab will be in Paradise. (Bukhari: 3674) There are many more merits of Omar ibn Khattab (Radi Allah Anhu). A book can be compiled on it. In the end there is one last incident of Omar ibn Khattab (Radi Allah Anhu) martyrdom. When he was attacked by kaafir Abu Lulu, he got severely injured. When milk was brought to him and he drank it but it came out of his belly. In this condition a young man came and when Omar (Radi Allah Anhu) saw that young mans (Radi Allah Anhu) clothes touching the ground, He said, Call the young man back to me." (When he came back) 'Omar said, "O son of my brother! Lift your clothes, for this will keep your clothes clean and is more obedient to your Lord. [Bukhari: 3700] Subhan Allah! He didnt care about his injuries, till the end he cared about the Sunnah of the prophet (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam). O Allah!, make our hearts full off Omar ibn Khattabs (Radi Allah Anhu) love.
