Master's programme
Data Science
Data science is one of the most promising career paths nowadays. Our
two-year research Master's programme prepares you for a research career in
data science. Its goal is to train you how to advance the state of the art in data
science, leading to new theories and applications that will shape our
data-driven future.
FIELD OF EXPERTISE
Data Science deals with all the steps of data processing from collecting and
cleaning, to analysing and visualising, with the goal of gaining novel and
relevant insights. The Master’s programme in Data Science goes beyond
applying existing analytical tools, algorithms, and machine learning
principles. It enables you to push existing technologies to higher levels,
create new functionalities of data processing, and communicate the findings
convincingly and transparently to a broad audience.
Data scientists are building the foundation of Big Data. Modern AI solutions
cannot be materialised without advanced methods to identify the data that
matters, techniques to efficiently manage those massive volumes, tools to
apply the necessary computational tasks, or effective ways to communicate
the results.
Through this programme you become part of a rich ecosystem that includes
the Utrecht AI Labs and organisations like TNO, and UMC. This allows you to
interact with respected organisations in the field and also apply your
research to specific real-world use cases.
A FIT FOR YOU?
Our Master's programme aims at students who are eager to learn how to
develop new technologies and methods for the processing of data. You aspire
to make an impact in science and society, applying data science to solve
significant challenges society is facing, such as inequalities, pollution and
