Syllabus for Business Analytics in Advanced Excel

Introduction:
This course provides an overview of Business Analytics in Excel. The course covers Advanced Excel,
including its interface, working with data, functions and formulas, data visualization, and pivots. The
course is designed to give hands-on experience in function and formulas, pivot table and charts, power
query, and slicers.
Duration: The course is 8 days long, with each day lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Course Outline:
Week 1
Day 1: Introduction to Advanced Excel
 Installation
 General user interface
 Terminology in Excel
Day 2: Data
 Working with text and numbers
 Different formats
 Conditional formatting
 Table designs
Day 3: Functions and Formulas
 Introduction to functions
 Introduction to formulas
 Cell referencing
 Working with formulas and functions
Day 4: Data Visualization
 Introduction to charts
 Different types of charts
 Interactive charts

Week 2
Day 1: Pivot Tables and Charts
 Data models
 Pivot tables
 Pivot charts
 Formulas in pivot tables and pivot chart
Day 2: Power Query
 Importing data from databases
 Creation of data models from exported data
Day 3: Slicers
 Introduction to slicers
 Working with slicers
Day 4: Dashboards
 Creation of dashboards from slicers and pivot tables
 What if Analysis
Class Format: Each class will be 1 hour and 45 minutes, with 15 minutes dedicated to reviewing the
previous class assignments and 1 hour and 30 minutes for teaching.
Assessment:
 Class assignments - 20%
 Class participation - 10%
 Final Project - 70%
Note: The final project is a real-world data problem that requires the use of Excel to run different
functions, formatting, pivots, and visualizations. The final project will account for 70% of the final grade.
