Dmaic in Process Control Tools

DMAIC is a structured, data-driven problem-solving method used to improve processes by identifying inefficiencies and implementing solutions. It consists of five phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control, each focusing on specific aspects of process enhancement. The approach ensures thorough analysis and sustainable improvements, ultimately leading to reduced defects and enhanced quality.

(In process Control Tools)

DMAIC (pronounced də-MAY-ick) is a data driven problem -soling method for identifying and
addressing inefficiency s in a process, improving its output and making these improve more predictable.
It brings structure to the improvement process and helps teams explore potential solutions,
decide a course of action, and implement process controls in short order.

What It Required
DMAIC is used to improve current processes. It is an excellent choice whenever there is a complex
problem with unclear root-causes or if the risks of inaction are high. Because DMAIC brings discipline
to the improvement process and discourages teams from jumping over important steps, it increases the
chances of success.

DMAIC Clarity
It is a five -phase approach for enhancing various organization process including manufacturing

Essentially you define the problem (“Define”), determine the baseline of the current state (“Measure”),
identify, validate and select the root cause(s) to resolve (“Analyse”), test and implement solutions
(“Improve”), and finally ensure that metrics are in place to monitor the improvement and ensure
sustainability (“Control”).

1.Define
The purpose of this phase is to make the defects clear and define the problems.
The goal of this phase is to define problems statement and develop a strategy for improvement
to identify the improvement opportunity. Example Ref, what are the critical process outputs?
Please see below example Style define chart as a ref.
2.Measure
The goal of this phase is to gather data from the process and determine the current Quality level you
can use Histogram and Pareto chart as a source of data. measure performance and establish baseline.

Please see below example chart as a ref(initial Data Collection source)

3.Analyze (outputs)
The main goal of the analyse phase is to go through the data to find out the top most defects which are
reoccurring as well as the root causes of the problems and seek improvement opportunities. `Focuses
on removing waste from process, so the analysis includes analyse the process in terms of time, value,
value stream mapping. Such as fishbone diagram, this is brainstorming technique, 5WHY. , to identify
the root cause that assure the cause the elimination of actual root cause and or bottleneck of the process
Please see below defect analysis example chart as a ref.
4.Improve
After gather the date and determining the root of the problem the team member must advise a plan to
address it. to identify, evaluate and select the right improvement solution to develop change
management approach to assist the organisation in adapting to the changes to introduce through
solution implementation. Please find the attached KPI chart as an example ref.

5.Control
It must be ensured that the problems do not occur again and entire process adhere to the lean six sigma
principles. Any deviations should be recorded and brought to the attention of the team. They create a
control strategy to monitor the ongoing performance. Use tools Control chart. Below is an example.

Defect or wastages reduction is the initial step to reduce production cost as well as improve
the quality. Higher quality comes with the reduced cycle time by reducing alternation
