Scale Questions
Example 1: To construct a plain or simple scale to show metres and decimetres when one metre is represented by 2.5
centimetres and long enough to measure upto 6 metres.
Example 2: To construct a plain scale to show kilometers and hectometers when 2.5 centimeters are equal to 1
kilometer and long enough to measure upto 6 kilometers. Find R.F. and indicate a distance 4 kilometers and 5
hectometers on the scale.
Example 3: Construct a scale of 1 cm = 0.4 meter to show the meters and decimeter and large enough to measure up to
5 meters. Show a distance of 4 meters and 6 decimeters on it
Example 4 : A rectangular plot of land of area 16 square kilometers is represent on a certain map by area 1 sq. cm.
Draw a plain or simple scale to show Units of 1 kilometers and single kilometer. Find R.F. and mark on it a distance of
57 kilometers.
Example 5: The distance between two stations A and B is 144 kilometers and it is covered by Janta train in 4 hours.
Draw a plain scale to measure the time up to single minute. The R.F. of the scale is 1/240,000. Calculate the distance
covered by the train in 45 minutes and show minutes on the scale
Example 6: A car is moving at a speed of 60 km per hour. On a scale one cm represents one third of a km. Show the
distance travelled by the car in 3 minutes and 30 seconds. What is R.F. of scale?
Example 7: Construct a diagonal scale to read metres, decimetres and centimetres for a R.F. of 1/50 and long enough
to measure upto 5 metres. Show on it a length of 2.89 metres, 3.67 meters and 4.44 metres.
Example 8: An aeroplane is flying at a speed of 360 kmlhr. Draw a diagonal scale to represent 6 km by 1 cm and to
show distance up to 60 km. Find the R.F. of the scale.Find from the scale the distance covered by the aeroplane in
(i) 3 minutes 21 seconds (ii) 5 minutes 36 seconds and (iii) 7 minutes 49 seconds
Example 9: To construct a diagonal scale of R.F. = 1/5000 or 1:5,000 to show single metres and long enough to
measure upto 600 metres. On the scale show a distance of 457 metres.
Example 10: The distance between two stations A and B is 100 kilometres and its equivalent distance on railway map
measure 2.5 centimetres.. What is the R.F.?Draw a diagonal scale showing single kilometres and indicate on the scale,
the following distances:(i) 577 kilometres (ii) 455 kilometres (iii) 333 kilometres
Example11: The distance between two cities A and B is 300 kilometers. Its equivalent distance on the map measures
only 6 centimeters. What is the R.F.? Draw a diagonal scale to show hundreds of kilometers, tens of kilometers and
kilometers. Indicate on the scale, the following distances (i) 525 kilometers (ii) 313 kilometers (iii) 258 kilometers.
Example 12 : To construct a diagonal scale to measure kilometre, hectometres and decameters, when a distance of 1
kilometre represented by 3 centimetres and long enough to measure upto 5 kilometres. Indicate on the scale, a distance
of 4 kilo- metres, 5 hectometres and 5 decametres.

Example 13 : Construct a scale of R.F. = to show decimeters and centimeters and by a vernier to read
2.5
millimeters, to measure upto 4 decimeters. Show length 2.43 decimeters.
Example 14: Construct a scale of chords showing 5˚ divisions and with its aid set-off angles of 25˚, 40˚, 55˚ and 130˚.
Example 15: Draw a triangle having sides 8 cm, 9 cm and 10 cm. long respectively and measure its angles with the aid
of scale of chords.
