Advanced Features of Word
Processing
1. MS WORD is also known as Word Processer
2. There are 3 categories –
a. Formatting Tools
b. Editing Tools
c. Drawing Tools
3. They enhance the look of the document
4. Formatting Tools –
a. Format Painter
It is a formatting tool where you can quickly apply the formatting (font size,
font colour, border style) to multiple text or graphics.

Shadow effects – It is a special visual effect added to an object
that you insert in a document.
c. Superscript and Subscript –
i. Superscript – It represents the data selected above the normal line.
Widely used for mathematical formulas
E.g.– a2 + x6 + n9 = z0
ii. Subscript – It represents the data selected below the normal line.
Widely used for chemical formulas and footnotes.
E.g. – H20
5. Editing Tools –
a. Header and Footer – In MS Word, a header and footer are some text or
graphics printed on the top and bottom margins of the page.
i. Header – A header is text or graphics printed on the top of the page
ii. Footer – A footer is text or graphics that are printed.

c. Margins – The system provides all round space for the entire document to
present itself to the user in an understandable and readable format, called as
a margin.
d. Page Layout – It is the direction of text and graphics in which a document is
displayed or printed – Vertical (Portrait) and Horizontal (Landscape)
e. Page size – The selection of page size, paper size or page orientation is
applicable to publications where they publish books or different layouts and
sizes. It can be either “LETTER” (Width = 8.5 and Height = 11) or “A4”
(Width = 8.27 and Height = 11.69).
f. Find and Replace – Find and Replace option allows you to search for a word
(big) and replace it with some other word (small) for your need.
6. Drawing Tools –
a. Shapes – MS Word provides tools for creating different shapes such as
callouts, basic shapes, 3D shapes, banners, arrows, lines, flow chart symbols,
etc. You can colour them up for the need. You can also write text in them.

i. A border is an outline given to the page/paragraph to grasp the readers
attention.
ii. Shading is done when you colour the background behind the text. It
makes the page look attractive and draws the attention of the readers
and viewers.
