Definition - A parable is a symbolic story that
teaches a moral or spiritual lesson.
Jesus used everyday situations—like farming,
family conflict, and acts of kindness—to
communicate deep truths.
Parables invite listeners to reflect on their
own lives and values.

The Moral Teaching of the
Beatitudes
(Matthew 5:1–12)
The Beatitudes are a series of blessings that
describe the attitudes and behaviors of people
who live according to God’s will.
They challenge worldly values by blessing the
humble, the suffering, and the just, rather than
the powerful or wealthy.
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit
Teaching: Humility; recognizing our
need for God.
Application: Avoid arrogance; value
simplicity and gratitude.
2. Blessed are those who mourn
Teaching: Compassion and empathy for
suffering and injustice.
Application: Comfort others and be
sensitive to people’s pain.
3. Blessed are the meek
Teaching: Strength through gentleness
and patience.
Application: Respond with calmness and
forgiveness, not aggression.
4. Blessed are those who hunger and
thirst for righteousness
Teaching: A deep desire for justice,
fairness, and moral living.
Application: Stand up for what is right,
even when it’s unpopular.
5. Blessed are the merciful
Teaching: Showing kindness and
forgiveness to others.
Application: Let go of grudges and help
those in need.
6. Blessed are the pure in heart
Teaching: Sincerity, honesty, and inner
integrity.
Application: Act with good intentions;
avoid hypocrisy.
7. Blessed are the peacemakers
Teaching: Creating harmony and
resolving conflict.
Application: Encourage reconciliation in
relationships and communities.
8. Blessed are those who are
persecuted for righteousness’ sake
Teaching: Commitment to moral
principles even when it brings hardship.
Application: Stay true to what is good
and just, even when criticized.
