SDGs ACHIEVED

The key SDGs targeted by our projects with the goal of better
well-being, quality education for all, reduced inequalities in
any form, and building sustainable cities and communities.

SDG 3 : Good Health and Well Being

We, after multiple rounds of research and analysis,
came up with Project Aarogya in order to address this
very issue and thus targeting SDG 3 - 'Good health and
well being'.
Project Aarogya, in all its capacity has fulfilled SDG 3-
Good health and well-being by ensuring healthy lives
and promoting the well-being of women of all ages. It
has improved the lives of numerous people by
addressing the issue of menstrual hygiene and making PROJECT
people aware of its importance in daily life AAROGYA
4 CDF-SRCC
SDG 4 : Quality Education
Project Dream Library ensures quality education for all,
thus targeting SDG 4 - 'Quality Education' of the
Sustainable Development Goals. But how does it
actually fulfill the Sustainable goal? Project Dream
LIbrary has successfully targeted SDG 4- Quality
education, by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality PROJECT DREAM
education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities LIBRARY
for all.

SDG 10 : Reduced Inequalities

Esscent by Arpan, uses the sacred flower waste from the
temples to produce premium hand-rolled incense sticks
manufactured by specially-abled people and rural
women. PROJECT ARPAN, has most importantly
highlighted SDG 10- 'Reduced Inequalities' by providing
employment opportunities to specially abled people
and rural women who are otherwise overlooked. Esscent
by Arpan employs 4 specially abled people and 2 rural
women, thus, reducing the income inequalities by
PROJECT ARPAN
providing them with a regular source of living.

SDG 11 : Sustainable Cities and Communities

Rivaayat is our initiative in re-discovering the dying art of
Terracotta Pottery, nominated to be in the UNESCO's List
of Intangible Cultural Heritage, to revive the livelihood of
the potters who shape life into this dying artform and
protect their identity through establishing a stable
demand and supply chain for the products and
incorporating customised and contemporary designs.
PROJECT RIVAAYAT envisions strongly to work towards
SDG-11 through empowering the potter communities in
remote locations, thus making their lives inclusive and PROJECT
RIVAAYAT
sustainable by making them financially independent.

Project Aarogya strives to address the issue of improper menstrual hygiene
and the lack of accessibility of sanitary pads in the urban slums of Delhi-NCR.
PROJECT AAROGYA

"AASHAYEIN HONGI PURI"

Creating a supply chain to ensure affordability,
availability and awareness of pads in the slum
areas.

7 CDF-SRCC
Introduction
We live in a world that disregards something as basic as
menstruation, which is often misunderstood as dirty. Around
88% out of more than 350 million menstruating women do not
have access to sanitary napkins, forcing them to resort to
unhygienic alternatives like cloth. About 71% of teenage girls
are uninformed and 23 million girls drop out of school Affordability
annually due to periods.

Aarogya was founded to ensure that these ladies have

access to their most basic right: sanitation! It was also critical
for society to understand that Menstruation is a natural
process. Period!
Availibility
Aarogya's approach focuses on three key areas: affordability,
availability, and awareness. We provide high-quality, eco-
friendly pads at a reasonable price. we work with partners to
raise awareness about menstruation, challenging the stigma
and promoting understanding. This comprehensive approach
is making a difference, bringing sanitary pads to women in
smaller cities and those with middle-class incomes. Awareness

7 CDF-SRCC
THE CHANGEMAKING PROCESS
AREA IDENTIFICATION
Aarogya undertakes survey in the identified
area by interacting with community and
drawing conclusions about the feasibility of
the area on the basis of decided
parameters.

PROCUREMENT
Undertake procurement of sanitary pads
from manufacturer through, which are then
packaged by women in our identified NGO,
then delivered to meet the need of women
without delay.

MARKETING
To raise awareness and break the stigma
around menstruation, we organize street
plays ("Nukkad Nataks") as part of their
marketing campaigns. This empowers
women by making them feel informed and
secure.

WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS
Finally, we identify women in these areas, train
them to become entrepreneurs, and equip them
to deliver sanitary pads directly to women in
need creating a livelihood opportunity for these
women, allowing them to make a positive
impact on other women's lives.

Financial Impact
Project Aarogya's financial impact extends beyond just the product itself. While we have
provided over 336,000 menstrual hygiene products, the initiative has also empowered
women entrepreneurs. With a 455% income increase for these entrepreneurs. This
financial empowerment can contribute to the overall economic health of the slums,
fostering a ripple effect that goes beyond menstrual hygiene products.

Social Impact
Aarogya's impact extends beyond access to sanitary pads. We create a ripple effect by
empowering women. Through our program, women gain financial independence,
allowing them to contribute to their families' well-being. Aarogya has demonstrably
increased awareness about menstrual hygiene and personal hygiene practices,
particularly during the pandemic. This success has led to a significant decrease in the
use of unhygienic cloth alternatives during menstruation.

Ecological Impact
Aarogya goes beyond providing pads. We educate women on proper disposal of
sanitary napkins, promoting a clean environment alongside menstrual health. This eco-
conscious approach ensures both personal hygiene and a healthy surrounding.

11 CDF-SRCC
DONATION DRIVES

It is truly said, "Success is best when it's shared".

These drives prioritize distributing sanitary pads to women in need. By

collaborating with local organizations and educational institutions, Aarogya
leverages existing networks to effectively reach a wider population within the
target areas. This ensures that women in these underprivileged communities
gain access to essential menstrual hygiene products.Aarogya teamed up with
CDF-Hindu and Venkateshwar College to organize donation drives in slum
communities.

15 CDF-SRCC
NUKKAD NATAK

Aarogya hits the streets with engaging street plays, or "Nukkad Nataks," to spark
conversations about menstrual hygiene across various communities. Our recent
performance in Connaught Place drew a large crowd, highlighting the growing
public interest in breaking the stigma. Through these interactive plays, Aarogya
educates audiences in a fun and accessible way, promoting awareness on a
critical yet often-overlooked topic.

15 CDF-SRCC
5th YEAR ANNIVERSARY

On 3rd February 2024,

Aarogya celebrated its 5th anniversary with a special event at one of its key impact
area. The celebration was marked by the team's visit to the community, where they
met with Ganga Di, the local Point of Contact who oversees pad distribution.

The event was both educational and celebratory, featuring awareness sessions on
menstrual hygiene, street plays (Nukkad Nataks), and interactive workshops. These
activities were designed to inform and engage the women in the community,
emphasizing the importance of sanitation. The day was also highlighted by the
distribution of high-quality, affordable sanitary napkins, fulfilling Aarogya's mission
to make menstrual hygiene accessible to all. The celebration concluded with a
heartfelt cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing five years of impactful service and
community empowerment.

15 CDF-SRCC

Esscent by Arpan is a line of premium flower-based incense sticks and cones
made from flower waste and eco-friendly ingredients.
PROJECT ARPAN

“A divine offering to nature”

7 CDF-SRCC
Introduction
About 80 lakh metric tonnes of flowers are disposed of in
Ganga every year which creates a problem that is severely
detrimental to the environment. In order to solve the
problem of water pollution, degradation of the
environment, and keep the purity of rivers intact, we came Planet
up with Esscent.

We started our endeavor by coming up with an evergreen

solution, Esscent, an innovative idea of using flower waste
to produce eco-friendly, 100% charcoal-free, and natural
incense sticks. We provide an afterlife to the flowers and
opportunities to our user group. Eco-Friendly packaging Purity
facilitates environmental replenishment.

At Esscent, our mission is to disrupt this massive waste

stream by using flower waste as a primary aromatic and
eco-friendly ingredient in our products.

7 CDF-SRCC
THE CHALLENGE

The world produces a monumental

amount of flower waste each year and
when discarded improperly, the
pesticides and chemicals alter the
ecosystem in a significant way.
In India, it accounts for 16% of total river
pollution, creating a breeding
environment for diseases like cholera
and hepatitis. Commonly sold sticks
typically contain 75% Sawdust, and
Charcoal, a known carcinogen and
pollutant.

THE SOLUTION

Developing 100% charcoal-free

flower based incense sticks & cones.

Hand rolled by specially-abled

people and women from
marginalized communities.

Ensuring a Chemical-Free
environment.

Packaged in eco-friendly boxes.

7 CDF-SRCC
THE CHANGEMAKING PROCESS

Collection of Flower Waste

We begin by collecting flower waste that
would otherwise be dumped in water
bodies. By doing this, we not only reduce the
environmental burden but also give new life
to these beautiful natural resources.

Making the Paste

Once collected, the flowers are carefully
processed into a natural paste. This step
ensures that our incense remains chemical-
free, maintaining the purity and integrity of
the natural ingredients.

Handrolling of Sticks
The natural paste is then handed over to our
skilled artisans, comprising specially-abled
individuals and women from marginalized
communities. These dedicated workers
expertly hand-roll each incense stick and
cone with precision and care.

Premium Packaging
Finally, the handcrafted incense sticks and
cones are packaged in eco-friendly boxes. Our
packaging is designed to be sustainable and
visually appealing, reflecting our commitment
to environmental responsibility.

Project Rivaayat is an initiative started to revive and sustain the ethnicity of
the dying art forms of India by creating direct market linkages for the
artisans, and connecting them with professional designers.
PROJECT RIVAAYAT

‘REVIVING THE ETHNICITY’

7 CDF-SRCC
Introduction
India is an ethnically diverse and aesthetically cultured
country that is recognized for its art and craft practices, Reviving the Livelihood
a country where millions of people unleash their
potential and legacy of their art just to earn a normal
living.

Pottery is considered one of the most tangible and

iconic elements of Indian art. However, the existence of
this rich legacy is slowly fading away. To sustain this
dying art form of terracotta pottery and to improve the Re-establishing Culture
plight of these artisans, we came up with our model
Rivaayat.

We, thereby eliminate the chain of middlemen while

connecting our user group with professional designers
to modernize their existing designs, helping India re-live
its tradition.
Re-discovering Art

27 CDF-SRCC
THE CHALLENGE

Rivaayat was founded to preserve India's

dying art forms and penetrate the $663
billion global handicraft industry. The journey
began in Uttam Nagar, home to over 600
potter families who lacked the resources and
technical knowledge for a sustainable living.
Despite their unmatched talent, they earned
barely 5,000 Rupees per month, which was
insufficient to cover their costs. Challenges
like competition from machine-made
products, difficult trade terms with
middlemen, and struggles to meet modern
tastes exacerbated their problems.

THE SOLUTION

Established a trust with artisans to

address their challenges.

Educated artisans about market trends

to provide sustainable solutions.

Collaborated with professional design

studios, such as Concept Key to
modernize and commercialize designs.

Developed an efficient supply chain to

streamline the production and

We have introduced a new vertical to our model, which focuses on organizing
Terracotta Pottery Workshops.

New Generation linkage

By organizing these terracotta workshop at schools, the younger generation is
connected with the traditional artforms of India.

rewarding experience that strengthens hand-eye coordination and problem-
solving skills.

Another Source of Income for Artisans

Through our new vertical we are establishing a new revenue stream for the artisans,
helping them to sustain their livelihood easily.

32 CDF-SRCC
WAY FORWARD

As Rivaayat has achieved its real motto for which it was started, now it transitions to a new
home, CDF will ensure a smooth handover. Along with that, research for a new social
entrepreneurship project is ongoing, allowing CDF to leverage its experience in tackling a fresh
local challenge. This ensures that the society's legacy of social innovation continues to thrive.

Research During Tenure

During the tenure, we focused on expanding Project Rivaayat by exploring and documenting a
diverse range of traditional art forms. Our team conducted extensive research on various
crafts, including Bidriware, Kalamkari, bamboo crafts, Dhokra, Sanjhi, warli and Moradabad
brassware. We delved into the history, techniques, and cultural significance of each art form,
ensuring a comprehensive understanding of their uniqueness.

PROJECT NAQSH, an initiative by CDF-SRCC, wherein, we intertwine tradition with
innovation. Our mission is to champion the cause of sustainable craftsmanship,
celebrating the art of handmade goods and weaving authenticity into every
creation, one thread at a time.
PROJECT NAQSH

"HAATHO SE SILA, VISHWAS KA SILSILA"

7 CDF-SRCC
Introduction
The decline of Indian handicrafts is akin to watching a
masterpiece vanish into history. Our centuries-old traditions
are being eclipsed by the rapid rise of the fashion industry.
The fast fashion industry promotes a cycle of
overconsumption and disposability, resulting in massive
textile waste that harms our environment. Ethnicity

In Sawai Madhopur, a group of determined women is

working to revive their cultural heritage while making a
positive environmental impact. By embracing a zero-waste
production model, they transform fabric scraps from nearby
textile factories into beautiful, handcrafted products. Environment
Through their efforts, they reduce waste and promote
sustainability by creating something meaningful from
discarded materials.

Each piece is a testament to their dedication, skill, and the

rich legacy of Indian craftsmanship, woven together with
Empowerment
purpose and passion.

Weaving authenticity, one thread at a time.

37 CDF-SRCC
THE CHALLENGE

Despite an abundance of textile waste,

limited demand for recycled materials
leaves much unutilized, exacerbating
environmental harm as India's significant
textile waste contributes to pollution, with
less than two-thirds recycled.

In regions like Ranthambore, artisans,

particularly local women, struggle for
recognition and opportunities, further
marginalized by the lack of platforms to
showcase their skills and earn livelihoods.

THE SOLUTION
We revitalize katran by transforming it
into sustainable home decor products,
preventing textile waste.

Connecting consumers with artisans, we

streamline the supply chain, eliminating
intermediaries.

Naqsh promotes a more equitable

fashion industry by ensuring fair
compensation for artisans, empowering
them and fostering sustainability.

Naqsh focuses on building a robust

online presence.

27 CDF-SRCC
OUR JOURNEY

Surveys and Visits

On our visit to Ranthambore we saw
that the women of Sawai Madhopur
strive to reclaim the lost cultural
identity and make a positive impact on
the environment. Utilising the waste
being generated in the nearby textile
manufacturing unit, they are working
on a Zero-waste production model

Pilot Run
For pilot run we tried to reach
out our friends and relatives.
We represented Project
Naqsh in three exhibitions
organised in Gurgaon and
Janakpuri .

Project Launch
We successfully launched Project
Naqsh on various social media
handles to increase its reach. We
would love to conquer new heights
under this project.

38 CDF-SRCC
THE CHANGEMAKING PROCESS
COLLECTION OF KATRAN
We start by carefully collecting katran and
textile scraps, which would otherwise be
thrown away. This process is crucial as it
prevents these materials from contributing
to waste and pollution.

SORTING
Once collected, the katran and textile scraps
are sorted by color, texture, and quality. This
meticulous sorting ensures consistency and
allows us to craft beautiful, high-quality
home decor items from what would
otherwise be waste.

WEAVING
After sorting, the scraps are woven into
intricate patterns by the women. This weaving
process transforms the materials into unique
and beautiful home decor items, showcasing
their vibrant colors and textures in a
sustainable and creative way.

PACKAGING
Finally, the finished decor items are carefully
packaged in eco-friendly jute bags,
accompanied by a card of regards. This
sustainable packaging reflects our dedication
to reducing environmental impact and
supporting eco-friendly practices.
