Last meeting, we learned about the rounding decimal
numbers to the nearest whole number.
what is rounding a number to the nearest whole number
class? replacing a decimal number with the
closest whole number where you look at
the digit in the tenths place.
very good!
for example: 2.3 rounded to the nearest whole number
is? 2 teacher
why 2 aichel? because the digit in the tenths place is (3) is
less than 5 teacher
very good!
keep up the good work class!
B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson
Class, this time before we proceed to our
discussion proper, we will be having a game
called “4 PICS 1 WORD”.
Are you familiar with this game?
Yes Teacher!
Four of your classmates will come in front
and pick an illustration, each illustration
contains four pictures. These pictures
represent only 1 word. Your goal is to guess
the word, use the letters provided below the
pictures to figure it out what the word is.
“Remember to carefully observe and analyze
the picture being shown.

Well done everyone! All your answers are correct.
C. Presenting examples/ instances of the new lesson
Now do you have any idea on what we are
going to tackle for today?
Measurement Teacher.
Yes, it’s all about measurement, these are
the:
Length, Mass, and Volume Teacher.
Length, Mass, and Volume.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
Before we start our discussion, based on the pictures
you saw on our game a while ago, did you ever tried to
encounter or used them?
Yes Teacher, we are using a ruler to makes
lines.
Teacher, when we want to know our
weight, we use the weighing scale.
(Other pupils can give their own experience
etc.)
Yes, in our daily life we can encounter the
measurements, even when we are doing something.
Let’s define first what is measurement.
(Pupils will read first)
Measurements- a process of finding the number that
shows the size or quantity of something which is usually Measurements- a process of finding the
given in terms of a specific unit. number that shows the size or quantity of
something which is usually given in terms
of a specific unit.
Metric System is basically a system used measuring
length (distance), mass (weight) and volume (capacity).
So, the metric measurement system is what we use to
determine the units of something.
Metric System is basically a system used
measuring length (distance), mass (weight)
and volume (capacity). So, the metric
measurement system is what we use to
determine the units of something.
When we say;
Length – (distance) it is the measurement of something
from the end to end or the amount of space between two
points. For example: the distance between me and you.
Can you give me measuring tools that helps us measure
distance.
(Pupils possible answers: measuring tape,
What measuring tools we can use to measure distance
ruler, protractor, etc.)
Excellent!
Units used for length are meter (m), centimeter (cm),
and kilometer (km).
Mass – (weight) is the measurement of how heavy an
object is. Units to be used are milligrams (mg), grams
(g), and kilogram (kg).
For instance, the heaviness of an object or things we
carry.
Lastly, is:
Volume – (capacity) is derived as the space occupied
within the boundaries of an object.
Example: The volume of a water in a container or bottle
Units shall be used are milliliters (ml), liter (l), and
gallon (G).
Based on the Metric System, what is 1 kilometer(km) to
1000 meters(m) Teacher.
meters(m)?
Do you know how did the 1 kilometer(km) became
1000 meters(m)? (Pupils answer its either yes or no)
So, now I will teach you on how to convert
METRIC SYSTEM EXACT EQUIVALENTS
Length:
1 meter(m) = 100 centimeter(cm)
1 meter(m) = 1000 millimeters(mm)
1 kilometer (km) = 1000 meters (m)
Mass:
1 gram(g) = 1000 milligrams(mg)
1 kilogram(kg) = 1000 grams(g
1 metric ton (m) = 1000 kilograms(kg)
Volume:
1 liter(L) = 1000 milliliters(ml)
1 liter(L) = 1000 deciliters (dl)
1 milliliter = 1 cubic centimeter (cm3)
the Metric Units.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2
Okay class, now can we try to covert units for length,
mass, and volume.
Example:
What is 2000 kilometers of distance convert to meters?
(Calculate) 2000 kilometers = 2 meters Teacher
How about 5 grams of salt convert to milligrams.
5 grams of sugar = 5000 milligrams
(Calculate)
Teacher
Next is, 3000 ml of orange juice to liters.
3000 ml = 3 liters of orange juice teacher
More examples for the students to solve.
Yes Teacher!
Understood class?
None Teacher!
Are you sure? You do not have any questions?
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)
Class, what do you think is the important of
Measurement in our daily life?
Yes Geril Ann?
Measurements are important because they
help us do basic task like measuring
ingredients for cooking or figuring out how
Very good! far away something is.
Any other answer?
Yes Justine?
Measurement help us know how much of
something we need.
Exactly!
Let us try another example!
What is 5,000 kilometers of distance convert to meters?
What is 10 grams of sugar convert to milligrams?
What is 3,000 ml of pineapple juice to liters?
May I ask 3 students to come infront and solve the
problem.
(3 students are answering)
Very good!
G. Finding Practical Applications and Skills in daily living
Let’s now proceed to our group activity. So,
I will group you into three groups. Instead of
counting for the groupings, get one piece of
paper inside this box.
Who got the letter L? Please stand up, you
are the group 1. How about letter M? Stand
up you will be group 2 and Lastly letter V,
you are group 3. Go to your groups and form
a circle quietly.
Listen carefully to the instruction, but you must also
read and understand for you to do your activity group.
