Instructions to Students

Please read the detailed Guidelines on Internship hosted on the website of AP


State Council of Higher Education https://apsche.ap.gov.in

1. It is mandatory for all the students to complete 2 months (180 hours) of short-
term internship either physically or virtually.
2. Every student should identify the organization for internship in consultation
with the College Principal/the authorized person nominated by the Principal.
3. Report to the intern organization as per the schedule given by the College. You
must make your own arrangements of transportation to reach the
organization.
4. You should maintain punctuality in attending the internship. Daily
attendance is compulsory.
5. You are expected to learn about the organization, policies, procedures, and
processes by interacting with the persons working in the organization and by
consulting the supervisor attached to the interns.
6. While you are attending the internship, follow the rules and regulations of the
intern organization.
7. While in the intern organization, always wear your College Identity Card.
8. If your College has a prescribed dress as uniform, wear the uniform daily, as
you attend to your assigned duties.
9. You will be assigned with a Faculty Guide from your College. He/She will be
creating a WhatsApp group with your fellow interns. Post your daily activity
done and/or any difficulty you encounter during the internship.
10. Identify five or more learning objectives in consultation with your Faculty
Guide. These learning objectives can address:
 Data and Information you are expected to collect about the organization
and/or industry.
 Job Skills you are expected to acquire.
 Development of professional competencies that lead to future career success.
11. Practice professional communication skills with team members, co-interns and
your supervisor. This includes expressing thoughts and ideas effectively
through oral, written, and non-verbal communication, and utilizing listening
skills.
12. Be aware of the communication culture in your work environment. Follow up
and communicate regularly with your supervisor to provide updates on your
progress with work assignments.
13. Never be hesitant to ask questions to make sure you fully understand what
you need to do your work and to contribute to the organization.
14. Be regular in filling up your Program Book. It shall be filled up in your
own handwriting. Add additional sheets wherever necessary.
15. At the end of internship you shall be evaluated by your Supervisor of the intern
organization.
16. There shall also be evaluation at the end of the internship by the Faculty Guide
and the Principal.
17. Do not meddle with the instruments/equipment you work with.
18. Ensure that you do not cause any disturbance to the regular activities of the
intern organization.
19. Be cordial but not too intimate with the employees of the intern organization
and your fellow interns.
20. You should understand that during internship programme, you are the
ambassador of your College, and your behavior during the internship
programme is of utmost importance.
21. If you are involved in any discipline related issues, you will be withdrawn from
the internship programme immediately and disciplinary action shall be
initiated.
22. Do not forget to keep up your family pride and prestige of your College.

CHAPTER 1: EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

As part of my academic curriculum, I undertook an internship at *Bharat Electronics Limited


(BEL), specifically in the **Advanced Defence Systems Naval (ADSN) – Staticial Business Unit
(SBU)*. BEL is a prominent public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, Government of
India, engaged in the design and manufacture of cutting-edge defense electronics systems. The
ADSN SBU specializes in naval systems, including integrated weapon platforms, surveillance
systems, and radar technologies.

During my internship, I gained valuable insights into BEL's contribution to national defense
through their sophisticated radar and weapons systems. I was introduced to several critical
defense projects and technologies, including:

* MF-STAR (Multi-Function Surveillance Threat Alert Radar): A state-of-the-art radar system used
in modern naval ships for simultaneous tracking, surveillance, and threat detection.
* WCS (Weapon Control System): A mission-critical system designed to control and coordinate
various onboard weapons.
* VLU (Vertical Launch Unit): A launch system enabling vertical deployment of missiles from naval
platforms, ensuring faster response and reduced radar signature.

Throughout the internship, I engaged in technical discussions, product demonstrations, and


interactive sessions with engineers and project teams. This enabled me to build a foundational
understanding of complex defense systems and their integration into naval platforms.

A. Introduction of the Organization

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is a premier public sector undertaking under the Ministry of
Defence, Government of India. Established in 1954, BEL is a leading manufacturer and
supplier of cutting-edge electronic products and systems for the Indian Armed Forces. The
company plays a crucial role in India’s self-reliance in defense electronics and is known for
its research-driven innovations and high-quality production standard.

My role as an intern included observing and understanding advanced naval systems like radar
operations, antenna configurations, missile launch systems, and overall integration on naval
platforms.

unit within BEL focused on naval applications.

I was placed in the *Radar and Naval Systems Division* under the ADSN SBU, where employees
were involved in:

* Developing and testing *Weapon Control Systems (WCS).
* Working on the design and structural integration of the Vertical Launch Unit (VLU).
* Collaborating with software and hardware teams for system testing and performance
evaluation.
* Documenting system specifications, safety standards, and compliance protocols.

My observation and learning revolved around these activities with a focus on how systems are
developed, tested, and validated for naval deployment.

F. Performance of the Organization

BEL has consistently shown strong performance across financial and operational parameters:

* Turnover: Approx. ₹20,000+ Crores in FY 2023-24.


* Profit After Tax (PAT): Over ₹3,500 Crores in FY 2023-24.

CHAPTER 3: INTERNSHIP PART

Description of the Activities/Responsibilities in the Intern Organization during


Internship, which shall include - details of working conditions, weekly work schedule,
equipment used, and tasks performed. This part could end by reflecting on what kind
of skills the intern acquired.
The working environment at BEL-ADSN was formal, disciplined, and well-structured. Interns were
expected to adhere to office protocols, including punctuality, ID display, and formal attire.
Working hours were from *9:00 AM to 5:30 PM*, Monday to Saturday.. Each department was
equipped with modern infrastructure, and the work culture encouraged observation, interaction,
and learning through exposure to real-time industrial operation.

Describe the work environment you have experienced (in terms of people

During my tenure at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), I experienced a highly professional, structured,
and disciplined work environment that emphasized teamwork, integrity, and innovation. Interactions
with colleagues and superiors were respectful and collaborative, fostering a culture of mutual support
and knowledge sharing. Teamwork was strongly encouraged, and cross-functional coordination was
smooth and goal-oriented.
The facilities at BEL were well-maintained, with proper infrastructure, clean workspaces, and reliable
access to technical tools and resources. The premises were well-ventilated, with ample space ensuring a
comfortable working environment conducive to productivity.
Job roles and responsibilities were clearly defined, with detailed protocols and standard operating
procedures in place for every process. This clarity helped in efficient task execution and minimized
confusion or overlap. Time management was taken seriously, with employees expected to adhere to
timelines and schedules. Discipline was a key part of the culture, and punctuality was consistently
practiced.
There was a good balance between professional focus and interpersonal relationships. Regular meetings,
team discussions, and occasional social gatherings contributed to harmonious workplace dynamics. The
management also motivated employees through recognition, training, and opportunities for growth,
which helped maintain high morale and job satisfaction.
Overall, BEL provided a secure, well-organized, and respectful work environment rooted in
professionalism, national service, and continuous improvement.
Describe the real time technical skills you have acquired (in terms of the job-
related skills and hands on experience)

During my internship at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), I gained hands-on experience in major defense
projects such as VLSRAM (Very Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile), WCS (Weapon Control System),
and LRSAM (Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile), which significantly enhanced my understanding of
embedded systems, system-level integration, and real-time defense communication.

In the VLSRAM project, I observed system integration involving radar systems, launcher control, and
command units, while learning about real-time data acquisition, radar signal processing, and military
communication protocols like RS-422 and MIL-STD interfaces.

In WCS, I explored fire control logic, target tracking, operator console design, and the integration of sensor
data from radar, GPS, and encoders. I also observed testing, diagnostics, and command validation
procedures.

The LRSAM project introduced me to seeker systems, onboard navigation, embedded guidance controllers,
and simulation tools for path prediction and signal analysis.

These projects collectively deepened my technical knowledge in software-hardware interfacing, signal


flow, and mission-critical system reliability.

Beyond technical skills, I developed essential soft skills such as time management, teamwork, and
adaptability in a structured defense environment.

I actively collaborated with engineers and fellow interns, participated in system testing, and learned the
importance of process discipline and safety protocols.

The internship also provided a motivating and inclusive atmosphere with mentorship from senior
engineers, promoting continuous learning and innovation.

The facility’s clean and green environment, along with amenities like lunch and refreshments, contributed

This immersive experience prepared me for future roles in defense electronics, embedded systems, and

During my internship at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), I not only gained technical exposure but also

and prioritize tasks effectively, align work with project milestones, and contribute to team objectives with
greater clarity and coordination.

Working in multi-disciplinary teams improved my collaboration, communication, and understanding of

smooth workflow through regular team interactions and conflict-free coordination.

During my academic and internship experience, I recognized the importance of effective communication in
presenting ideas clearly, collaborating with teams, and building professional confidence. To enhance my
oral communication, I plan to engage in regular discussions, presentations, and group activities to
improve fluency, clarity, and expression. In written communication, I aim to write structured reports,
emails, and technical documents with accurate grammar and a professional tone.

To strengthen conversational skills, I will practice active listening, observe non-verbal cues, and ask
clarifying questions to ensure mutual understanding and stronger engagement. Improving my confidence
while speaking is a priority, and I plan to participate in group discussions, mock interviews, and public
speaking opportunities to reduce hesitation.

To manage communication anxiety, I will use breathing techniques, preparation, and gradual exposure to
high-pressure speaking environments like interviews and extempore sessions. I also plan to improve my

During my internship at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), I gained valuable experience working in

During my internship at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in the Advanced Defense Systems – Navy
Department, I gained practical exposure to a wide range of modern digital technologies used in mission-
critical defense systems. I observed the application of embedded systems involving microcontrollers and
FPGAs in missile launchers, radar interfaces, and tracking systems, with a focus on real-time signal
processing and deterministic control essential for operational precision. I learned about military-grade
communication protocols such as RS-422, MIL-STD-1553, and CAN bus, which ensure secure and
synchronized data exchange between critical subsystems.

My understanding of Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) was enhanced by observing operator consoles


used in Weapon Control and Combat Management Systems, where intuitive GUI design supports rapid
decision-making and system control. I also explored firmware development in C and C++, along with the
use of automated testing tools, simulators, and diagnostic utilities that streamline the debugging and
validation of complex integrated systems. These tools enable faster iteration cycles and improved
reliability.

A major learning outcome was witnessing BEL’s use of SAP ERP software for managing enterprise-level
operations like procurement, production planning, inventory control, and maintenance scheduling. I saw
how SAP is embedded within project workflows to support accountability, coordination, and traceability
across departments. This experience connected theoretical knowledge with practical enterprise resource
planning in large-scale defense manufacturing.

I also observed advanced radar and missile guidance systems, where digital signal processing (DSP) is
used for target detection, tracking, and command relay, coupled with real-time onboard computing for
precision missile control. Additionally, I gained insight into cybersecurity practices, including encryption
protocols, system authentication, and secure boot mechanisms, as well as fault-tolerant hardware and
software designs that ensure system resilience under critical conditions.

Overall, this internship deepened my understanding of how cutting-edge digital technologies are integrated
into national defense infrastructure. It provided a strong foundation in embedded control systems, secure
digital communication, software testing methodologies, and enterprise-level systems like SAP—core
competencies for a future in defense and embedded engineering.
