How to write a how to
By: Griffin Hearn
Step One: Choose a topic. Your topic could be anything, but you should
pick a topic that you are passionate about and know your way around explaining
it. Something you can explain in a great amount of detail. Maybe a profession
that you may want in the future. These would make great topics.
Step Two: Addressing your audience. Before you start writing, pretend that
you're the reader and pick a few descriptive words of the audience you would like
to address. This may help influence the direction of the draft.
Step Three: Research! Even if you pick a topic you know a lot about, it is still
important to research because it is possible that you might not know a few
things. By researching you can learn specifics about your topic that you might
not know.
Step Four: Tighten your draft. At this point you have started writing. But by
keeping your audience in mind you can use information to tighten your draft up
a little. Sometimes new information can compel you to start again and that's fine
it will help you in the long run.
Step Five: Specifics. Make sure you have discussed every relevant step in
the process. You want to walk away knowing exactly how to make that
Thanksgiving dinner. If your narrative has places where you start to ramble on
and on you may want to get rid of that and cut right to the point.
Step Six: Read, Revise and Repeat. Now that you have finished writing, go
back and double check to see if there are any mistakes such as misspellings,
grammatical errors or missing words to name a few. This will yet again help the
points become clearer and more understandable.
Step Seven: Other opinions. Help is always an option. Sometimes it’s
important to get other peoples opinions because your opinion might be a tiny bit
biased at times. So to prevent yourself from being held back from greatness,
sometimes it’s important to have people critique your final product. See if other
people do some steps differently than yours. Other methods can help get the
point across to people who have a hard time understanding or they don’t have
the materials you do and they need to do it a different way. Either way it is
important to get help from other people.
