Translation of the Book of Fasholatan

The work of K.H. Sholeh Darat As-Samarani (1820-1903)

Part 1

Opening

Everyone who prays should understand the meaning of the recitations they read during the prayer.
Therefore, they should study this book. It is a book authored by a scholar that has virtues.
the attitude of wara' and the perfection of good character, Sheikh Haji Muhammad Sholeh bin Umar as-Samarani.
May Allah forgive him, his parents, and all Muslims. Amin.

‫ﻡِّﻟﺮﺍﻥﻡّﻟﺮﺍ ﺍ ﻡِﺏ‬

Preparation for Prayer

Know that when you have purified yourself outwardly by performing ablution according to the law
Sharia. If you are in a state of major impurity, you should have performed the major ablution according to sharia law as well. That is, both

Entering Prayer

In such a situation, intend to follow the commands of Allah SWT in accordance with the example provided.

Humble yourself before Him. Maintain this awareness firmly while performing prayers.

Takbir

Then say: 'Allahu Akbar'. That is, your heart says that indeed Allah is the One Who
Great is His power; there is no greatness other than Allah; and there is no god but Allah. Do not
Never think that there is a single creature that possesses the nature of greatness and the nature of
this glory. Only Allah possesses these two great attributes and no creature has them.

Opening Prayer

After the takbir, say‫ﻱّﻭﺝﺕّﻭﺝ‬That is the Servant facing the Lord. I turn my face

Then say:‫ﻥِﻡﻝِ ﻡﺍﻝﻥﻡ ًﺍﻥﻭﺕﺭﻡﺍ ﻙﻭﺑﺬﻝ ﻟﻪ ﻙﻱﺭﺍﻝ‬

It means that there is no one who associates with Allah and there is no one who resembles Allah.

Part 2

The meaning of Al-Fatihah

After that, say

‫ﻡِﻟﺮﺝﺍﻃﻦِﻟﺶﺍﻥﻡﻝًﺏ ﺫﻭﺍﻉ‬

That is to say, I seek refuge and protection from Allah from the temptations of Satan and desires.

‫ﻡِّﻟﺮﺍﻥﻡّﻟﺮﺍ ﺍ ﻡِﺏ‬

So after that say:‫ﻝ ﺩﻡﻟﺢﺍ‬.

Then say:‫ﻥِﻡﻝﻟﻊﺍﺏﺃ‬
That is Allah, the Being Who is Sovereign and Who governs the entire universe. That is Allah, Who always provides.

‫ﻥِﻉﺕِﻥ ﻙًﻱﺍﻭ ﺩُﻉﻥ ﻙًﻱﺍ‬

It means, truly I worship You, O Allah, because of Your help and love for me. And

‫ﻡِﺗﻲِ ﻡﺍﻝ ﺍﻁﺭﺹﺍﻝ ًﻥﺩﺍﻩ‬

That is, may You, O Allah, guide me to the true religion. May it be.
You have also granted me the ability to follow the straight, true, and good path.

‫ﻡِّﻋﻞﺕﻡﻉﺍﻥﻥﻱﻟﺬﺍ ﺍﻁﺻﺮ‬

The straight path‫ ﻡِﺗﻲِ ﻡﺍﻝ ﺍﻁﺭﺹﺍﻝ‬it is the way of life, behavior, and religious practices of the prophets of God and

‫ﻥِﻝًﺽﺍﻝﻝﻭ ﻡِّﻋﻞﺏﻭﻏﺾ ﻡﺍﻝ ﺭِﻍ‬

Straight road‫ﻡِﺗﻲِ ﻡﺍﻝ ﺍﻁﺭﺹﺍﻝ‬That is not the way of religion that You hate, O God. The straight path is also

Part 3

Reading Short Surahs


1. Surah Al-A‘la (87).

After reading Surah Al-Fatihah, it is recommended to read a short surah according to the memorization of the person praying.
However, the most important thing is to understand its meaning. Don't end up saying or reading what is not right.

َ‫⦵ﻋﻞﻝ ﭐ ﻙﺃﺏ ﭐﺳﻢ ﺡُﺱ ⦵ﻡِّ ﭐﻟﺮﻥﻡّ ﭐﻟﺮﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬

Glorify the name of your Lord, O Muhammad. The Most Exalted Being. Do not mention the name
Your God, except with a sense of glorification (ta‘dzim) and a sense of humility (khusyu‘). Do not mention

ِ‫⦵ﻭِﻑﻕﻝﺥ ِ ﭐﻟﺬ‬

ِ‫⦵ﻭّﺃ ﺀَﻏﺚ ُ ﻩﻝﻉﺝﻑ⦵َﻉﺭﻡ ﭐﻝ ﺝﺧﺮﺃ ِ ﻭﭐﻟﺬ‬

He is the Being who has grown vegetation in the form of grass for animals and plants.

drying.

‫ﻝ ﭐ ﺀَﺍ ًﻡ ﺇﻝ⦵َِﻱﺕﻝﻑ ﻙﺭﺉﻕﻱﺱ‬

Tomorrow I, Allah exalted and glorified be He, will convey or bring forth the Qur'an out from
Angel Gabriel to you, Muhammad. You will not forget the Quran, except for that which is forgotten.

َ‫ﺧﻒﻱ ًﻡﻭ ﺭّﺝ ﭐﻝ ﻡﻝﻉﻱ ُ ﻩﻥﺇ‬

Indeed, Allah, the Exalted and Most High, is the One Who is All-Knowing of all matters that are apparent.

ِ‫⦵ﺭِِﻝﻝ ﻙﺭِِﻥﻭ‬
And tomorrow I, Allah, the Most High, will make it easy for you, Muhammad, regarding

ِ‫⦵ﺭﻱ ﭐﻟﺬﻋﺖﻧﻒﻥﺇ ﺭﻱﻓﺬ‬

So give them advice, Muhammad. Remind your people of the Qur'an, whether that reminder is

َ‫⦵ﺵﺥﻱﻥﻡ ﺭﻱﺫِﺱ‬

Tomorrow, those who will receive the warning and believe in the teachings are those who have been certain.

Glory be to Him and Exalted. So believe in the teachings of the Qur'an.

ِ‫⦵ﺭُ ﭐﻟﻚ ﺃًﻱ ﭐﻝ َﺻﻞﻱ ِ ﭐﻟﺬ⦵َﺍﻟﻖ ﭐ ًُّﻱﺝﺕﻱﻭ‬

As for those who have indeed been doomed, they will stay away from the teachings of the Quran. They are the ones.

َِ‫⦵ﺡﻱﻝﻭ ًِّﻑﻣﻮﺕﻱ ﻝ ﻡﺙ‬

Then, they will die in hell. Because if they die, they will rest.
from being tortured. Therefore, they are not allowed to die. They also do not live in a state of life.

‫⦵ﺻﻞﻑِﺃﺑﻪ ﭐﺳﻢ ﺭﻱﺫﻭ⦵َﻱﺯﺕﻥﻡ ﻟﺢ‬


َ‫ﻑﺃ ﺩﻕ‬

Truly fortunate are those who have purified their hearts with faith. Even more fortunate are those...

On the contrary, all the infidels choose worldly life and abandon the afterlife.

َ ‫⦵ﺱﻭﻡﻭ ﻡِ ﻩﺇﺑﺮﻑﺻﺢ⦵َﻭﻝﻝ ﭐﻑﺡﺹ ﭐﻝ‬


َ‫ﻑﻝ ﺍﺫﻩﻥﺇ‬

As for the fortune of those who purify their hearts, they prefer the afterlife, and

Part 4

Reading Short Surahs

2. Surah Al-Ghāshiyah (88).

‫⦵ﺓِﺵﻍ ﭐﻝﺙﻱﺩ ّ ﯨﻚﺕﺃﻝﻩ ⦵ﻡِّ ﭐﻟﺮﻥﻡّ ﭐﻟﺮﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬

Indeed, news has come to you, O Muhammad, about the Day of Judgment that is heartbreaking.

ْ‫ﺉﻡﻭﻱ ﻭﻩﻭﺝ‬
ْ ْ
‫ﻟﺔﻡًﻉ⦵ﺓﺧﺸﻊ ﺫ‬ ْ‫⦵ﺓُﺹًﻥ‬

Tomorrow on the Day of Judgment, the faces and essence of humans will be degraded and they will feel suffering. More than
there, people are burdened with chains on their legs and shackles around their necks.

‫⦵ﺓِﺍﻥﺀﻥِﻉﻥﻡ َﻕِﺕ⦵ﺓِﻡًّ ﺍﺃًﻥ َﺻﻞﺕ‬

They are put into a hell whose fire has burned and blazed for thousands of years.

‫ﻏﻲﻱﻝﻭﻥﻡِﻱ ﻝ⦵ﻉﻱﺭﺽﻥﻡ ﺇﻝ ﻡًﻉﻁ ﻡّﻝﺱِﻝ‬


ْ َ ‫⦵ﻉﻭﺝﻥﻡ‬

The inhabitants of hell do not receive any food at all, except for food that consists of thorny wood.

ْ‫ﺭﻑﻡﺃ ْ ﺳﺮ ًِّﻑ‬ ْ ْ ‫⦵ﺓﻉﻭﺿﻮﻡ‬


‫ﺍﻳﻮﺃﻭ⦵ﻋﺔﻭ‬ ‫ﺏ‬

And in that paradise, there are also many chairs and high couches, as well as those placed in.

‫⦵ﺕﻕﻝﺥﻑِﻱﻝﺏﻝ ﭐ َﺇﻝﻥﻇﺮﻭﻱﻱﻝ‬
‫ﻑﺃ‬

Do you, humans, not see the camel? How was the camel created to take shape?
What makes one different from others in terms of strength, patience, and character?

‫⦵ﺕﺃﻓﻊﻑِﻱ ﺀَﻡِ ﭐﻝ َﻭﺇﻝ‬

And do they not observe the sky? How is he exalted above all mankind?

And does man not observe the earth? How is it spread out?

Therefore, all of that shows the power of Allah. It also shows the oneness of Allah. This verse

‫⦵ﺭﻁِﺹﻡﺏ ﻡِّﻋﻞﺕِﻝ⦵ﺭ ْﻱﺫﻡﺕﺃﻥ َﻡﻥﺇ ﺭﻱﻓﺬ‬

So remind all of humanity, O Muhammad! And give them advice about how

‫ﻑﻱﻭ َﻝﻭﺕﻥﻡ ﺇﻝ‬


‫⦵ﺭُﻟﻲ ﭐﺍﺏ ﭐﻟﻌﺬﻝ ﭐ ﻋﺬﺑﻪِﻑ⦵ﺭ‬

But for those who turn away and do not believe, Allah will punish that person with
The painful torment, namely the torment in the afterlife. As for the torment of this world in the form of being killed, it is merely a small punishment.

‫⦵ﻡّﺏًًِّﻱِﻋﻞﻥﺇ ﻡﺙ⦵ﻡّﺏًﻱﺇ َﻱِﺇﻝﻥﺇ‬


And to Me all mankind will return after death. Then they will be handed over to Me.

Part 5

Surah Al-Dhuḥā (93)

َ‫⦵ﺝﺱ ﺫﺍﺇﻝِ ﻭﭐﻝ⦵َﺡﺽ ﻭﭐﻝ⦵ﻡِّ ﭐﻟﺮﻥﻡّ ﭐﻟﺮﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬

And by the time of Dhuha, the morning. And by the time of night when its darkness covers the entire night.

َ‫⦵ﻗﻞ ًﻡﻭ ﻙﺃﺏ ﻋﻚﺩﻭ ًﻡ‬

Your Lord has not forsaken you, O Muhammad! And your Lord has not hated you! As for...

َ‫⦵ﻭﻝﻝ ﭐﻥﻡ ﻙﻝﺭِْﺥ ﺧﺮﺓﺍﺀﻝﻭﻝ‬

Indeed, the Hereafter is better for you, O Muhammad, than this world!

َ‫⦵ﺽﺭﺕﻑ ﻙﺃﺏ ﻙِﻋﻂﻱﻑﻭِﻭﻝ‬

And your Lord will surely give you, O Muhammad, until you are pleased and satisfied.
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "At that time I would not be pleased if there is ...
not a single one of my followers will enter hell.

ِ‫⦵ﻭً ﻓـ ًﻡِﺕﻱ ﻙﺩﺝﻱـ ﻟﻢﺃ‬

Isn't Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, the one who made you an orphan without a father? Then Allah, the Exalted...
and placed you under the care of your uncle, Abu Talib, who took care of you and
take care of you?

ِ‫⦵ﺩّﻑﻝَﺽ ﻙﻭﻭﺟﺪ‬

And you, O Muhammad, will find yourself not understanding the Qur'an and not understanding the sharia.
You do not know Islam and Faith. So Allah, exalted and glorified be He, guides you.
to the sharia.

َ‫⦵ﻱﻍﺃﻑﻝﺉَﻉ ﻙﻭﻭﺟﺪ‬

And Allah, exalted and blessed be He, made you previously in a state of poverty. Then Allah
He, exalted and most high, makes you wealthy through spoils and other means.

‫⦵ﺭّﻕﺕﻝﻑ ﻡِﺕِ ﭐﻝ ًﻡﺃﻑ‬


So because this is your origin, and seeing how good God has been to you, starting from being an orphan.

‫⦵ﺭّﻱﺕﻝﻑﻝﺉَِ ﭐﻝ ًﻡﺃﻭ‬

‫⦵ﺙﻓﺤﺪ ﻙﺃﺏ ﺓﻡﻉﻱﺏ ًﻡﺃﻭ‬

As for the blessings that your Lord has given you, then be grateful to your Lord.

It is then recommended to say Allah akbar or la ilaha illallah wa Allah akbar at the end of each surah.

Section 6

Surah al-Insyirāḥ

‫⦵ﻙﺭّﻅﺽﻕﺃﻥ ِ ﭐﻟﺬ⦵ﻙﺃﺯﻭ ﻋﻴﻚ ًﻱﻉﺽﻭﻭ⦵ﻙﺻﺪﺃ ﻙﻝ ﺡﺷﺮﻥ ﻟﻢﺃ ⦵ﻡِّ ﭐﻟﺮﻥﻡّ ﭐﻟﺮﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬

Did I not open your breast for you, O Muhammad? I opened it and filled it with the knowledge of prophecy.

‫⦵ﺍﺭِﻱ ﺭِ ﭐﻟﻊ ﻉﻡﻥﺇ⦵ﺍﺭِﻱ ﺭِ ﭐﻟﻊ ﻉﻡﻥﺇﻑ⦵ﻙﺭﻱﺫ ﻙﻝ ًﻱﻭﺃﻓﻊ‬

Indeed, We have created man in the best of stature and form.

‫⦵ﻥِﻓﻞﺱﻝ‬
‫ﻑﺱﺃ ﻩﻥﺩﺩﺃ ﻡﺙ‬

‫ﻥﻱﺩ ﻩًﻟﺶﺍﻥﻡ ﻙﻝﺫ َﻋﻞ ًﺍﻥﻭ َﻝﺏ‬

Such is the guidance from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

Section 7

6. Surah Iqra' (96).

‫⦵ﻕﻋﻞﻥﻡﻥِﻥﻝ ﭐﻕﻝﺥ⦵ﻕﻝﺥ ِ ﭐﻟﺬ ﻙﺃﺏ ﺳﻢَﺏ ﺃﺭﻕ ﭐ⦵ﻡِّ ﭐﻟﺮﻥﻡّ ﭐﻟﺮﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬

Read, O Muhammad! Starting by mentioning the name of your God. Your Sustainer who
has created all creatures. And who has created humans from thick blood that comes from
from the sperm of a man and the egg of a woman. It means say:‫ﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬then

‫⦵ﻡﻝﻉﻱ ﻟﻢ ًﻡﻥِﻥﻝ ﭐ ﻡﻋﻞ⦵ﻡﻝﻕﻝَﺏ ﻡﻋﻞ ِ ﭐﻟﺬ⦵ﻡﺭﻟﻲ ﭐ ﻙﻭﺃﺏ ﺃﺭﻕ ﭐ‬

Read, O Muhammad! Your Lord is the Most Merciful.

What do you think, O person being spoken to, if the person who is forbidden to pray actually
is on the path of guidance (al-Hudā)? Or the person who is hindered from prayer is someone who

ِ‫⦵ﺭﻱﻝ ﭐﺃﻥﺏ ﻡﻝﻉﻱ ﻟﻢﺃ‬

‫⦵ﺓﻃﺊًﺥ ﺓﺫﺏﻱ ﺓِﺹًﻥ⦵ﺓِﺹًﻱﻝَﺏ ًﻉ‬

Therefore, do not do that! And truly if you all do not stop from
your disbelief, then I (Allah, exalted and majestic) will drag you by the forelock!

‫⦵ﺏﺭﺕﻕ ﻭﭐ ﺩﺝ ﻭﭐﺱ ﻃﻌﻪﺕ ﻝﻝﻱ‬


Do not follow the command of Abu Jahl, O Muhammad? That is the command to abandon prayer.
Keep performing your prayers for Allah, O Muhammad! And prostrate and

Part 8

Surah al-Qadr

‫⦵ﺃﺩﻕ ﭐﻝ ﻟﺔِﻝ َﻑ ﻩﻱﺯﺃﻝﻥ َﻥﺇ ⦵ﻡِّ ﭐﻟﺮﻥﻡّ ﭐﻟﺮﻝ ﭐ ﻡِﺏ‬

‫ﻱﺕ‬
ْ ‫ﻡﻝﺱ⦵ﺭﻡﺃﻝﻱﻥﻡ ﻡّﺃﺏﻥﺇﺫﺏ ًِّﻑ ﺡ ﻭﭐﻟﺮﻭ ﺓﻙﻟﺊﻡ ﭐﻝﻝﺯ‬

On the night of Lailatul Qadr, all the angels descend along with Rūḥul Qudus, "The Holy Spirit", which is the angel.
