Social skills training program

from Goldstein and Pollock (1988b)


This skills training program is presented as an extension of
cognitive training program presented earlier. It gathers the strategies
What is taught in each of the 6 sessions lasting one and a half hours that has the
training. Taken from Goldstein and Goldstein (1990).

Session 1

Listen. Encounters with people - introducing yourself and introducing others.


Start a conversation.
End a conversation.
Work together to keep an activity ongoing.

Session 2
Ask questions appropriately.
Doing favors properly.
Seek help from colleagues.
Seek help from adults.
Follow the guidelines.

Session 3

Collaborate.
- Interpret the body language.
- Successfully playing a game.

Session 4
- Suggest an activity to others.
- Work cooperatively.
- Offer help.
Session 5
Say thank you.
Give a compliment.
Accept a compliment.
Self-reinforce.
Session 6
Apologize.
Understand the impact of your own behavior on others.

The following are the steps used to teach each of the
strategies.

Strategy: Listen
Steps
Look at the face of the person you are speaking with - eye contact.

3. Pay attention to what is being said.

Strategy: Meetings with new people Introduction to yourself

Look and respond to the other person's greeting.
2. Decide if you want to meet with the other person.
3. Choose the moment of the meeting.

3. Plan how to ask properly.

Strategy: Ask for help in the face of a problem

1. Decide what the problem is and whether you need help.
2. Decide what help you can ask for.
3. Decide who you want to ask for help.
4. Tell that person about your problem and ask for help.

Strategy: Follow the instructions

Steps

1. Listen to what is being said to you.


2. Ask all the questions you need until you clearly understand it.
3. Repeat the instructions to yourself.
4. Complete the steps in the given order.
Strategy: Collaborate

Steps

Decide if you need to do something to collaborate.


Decide with whom.
Choose the best time to do it.
4. Offer your collaboration honestly.

Strategy: Interpret body language


Steps
Look at the person's face and observe it.
2. Observe the facial features of the subject.
3. Identify their feelings towards the subject.
4. Observe the subject's body position.
5. Identify the subject's feelings.
If you are not very sure, exchange information verbally.
