The Virtues of the First Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah

Scholars affirm that these DAYS are more virtuous than the last ten DAYS of Ramadan.
Sa’id ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) would intensify his worship during these days to
such an extent that it would nearly exhaust him. He also noted that his teacher, the noble
companion Ibn Abbas (‫)رضي هللا عنه‬, would become unavailable during this time, devoting himself
entirely to worship.

Abu Huraira (‫ )رضي هللا عنه‬narrated that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said:
“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days. Fasting
one day during these days is equal to fasting for an entire year, and praying at night during them is
equal to praying on Laylatul Qadr.” (Tirmidhi)
Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (‫ )رحمه هللا‬explained that the uniqueness of these days lies in the fact that
all major acts of worship - prayer, fasting, charity, and Hajj - are combined within them. This is not
found in any other time of the year.

Anas ibn Malik (‫ )رضي هللا عنه‬remarked that the virtue of each of the first ten days is equal to a
1000 days, and the virtue of the Day of Arafah is equal to 10,000 days.
On The Day of Arafah, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, Allah frees more slaves from the Hellfire than on any
other day.
Shaytan is seen in the most humiliated state on this day, filled with regret and rage as he witnesses
the believers standing before Allah, begging for forgiveness. He fears that none of them will return
empty-handed.
The best du’a to make on this sacred day is:
“O Allah, grant me a good ending.”
Shaytan despises this supplication the most, knowing how powerful and sincere it is.
