LinkedIn Assignment - MKTNG 52566 – Applied Marketing

Elevate-Your-Profile to Elevate-Your-Future (via LinkedIn)

YOUR NAME:BHARGAVI SONI

During this marketing course, we have covered topics such as branding

and positioning. While the context for these teachings were products or
services, we can also apply these principles to the positioning of your
‘professional self’. In other words, how do you want to be perceived by the
person and company who decide to hire you? The hiring company is
seeking a solution to a need, and you are providing that potential solution.
Your positioning will either help you or hinder your chances of getting
hired. It won’t be neutral. It will either help or hinder.
As such, the purpose of this assignment is for you to position yourself for
success in the context of someone seeking employment. Your LinkedIn
profile is an important advertising tool that will be used to convey your
professional image.

PART 1 – PERSONAL REFLECTION

1. You are competing for a position in marketing. You can convey only 3
things about you that you want the interviewer to consider in their
hiring decision. What are these 3 things. Be concise.
Team player: I work best in groups where there is constant change. I'm
1 good at having conversations with others and ensuring that we cooperate
to accomplish our objectives.
Creative Thinker: I like to generate unique ideas. I'm always thinking
2 outside the box, whether it's attempting something new or coming up with
an innovative solution to an issue.
Excellent Analytical Skills: I'm skilled at interpreting and analyzing data. I
3 can identify patterns and trends in data which help in the development of
more intelligent marketing strategy judgments.
Note: These can be your strengths. They can be leadership skill or functional skill focused.
This question is intended to get you to think carefully about your key points of difference.

2. What are your current professional goals? (next 1-3 years)

 Taking on difficult projects helps me improve my decision-making and
problem-solving abilities.
 Obtain a marketing leadership position where I can manage teams and
assist with establishing strategy.

 Become an expert in particular marketing fields, like brand management or
digital marketing.

3. What is the one thing professionally that you would like to improve
upon?
 The one area of my career that I would like to focus on improving is my
capacity to prioritize and handle activities under pressure.

PART 2 – YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE

About Statement  The “about” statement is also referred to as your “summary”

 Think about this as your “elevator speech”. If you were riding down 20
floors in an elevator with a recruiter from your ideal company, what would
you tell them about you?
 Concise, yet compelling snapshot of your professional identity
 What makes you unique
 This is your best opportunity to make a good first impression
 Remember, you are not being hired for your work experience at this stage
in your career. So you need to think deeply about what you can bring to
the organization and the teams you will be working on.

Experience  Title, Employment Type (important), Company name, Location

 Title does not overinflate your responsibilities. (see note)
 Description: Less is more.
LinkedIn Assignment - MKTNG 52566 – Applied Marketing
Note: Do not use a title such as Sales or Marketing “Executive”. Executive is used to describe
Vice President level or above. If you overinflate your responsibilities in your title, it will back fire
on you and it will prevent you from being perceived as a credible professional.
