I (ONE MARK QUESTIONS)
1. Write down the p.d.f of a normal distribution whose mean is 10 and variance is 4.
Solution: For a Normal distribution given that

Solution: Given Z is a SNV . ie., Z ~ N(0, 1) Then its Mean is 0 and Variance is 1. Or S.D is also 1.

3. Give an example for normal variate.
Solution: Height of Students
4. If X is a Normal distribution with parameters µ , σ2 find P (X ≥ µ ).
Solution: For a Normal distribution P (X ≥ µ ) = 0.5 .
5. If X is a Normal distribution with parameters µ , σ2 .What will be the values of odd ordered
moments.
Solution: For a Normal distribution all odd ordered moments are zero. ie. μ1 = 0; μ3 = 0 etc.,
6. If Z is a SNV , find P(Z > 0).
Solution: For a Normal distribution P (Z ≥ 0 ) = P(Z > 0) = 0.5 .
7. Name a distribution in which mean, median and mode are equal.
Solution: For a Normal distribution Mean = Median = Mode = μ.

8. For a Normal distribution with parameters µ , σ2 ; find S.D. and Upper quartile.
Solution: For a Normal distribution Upper Quartile is given by

10. The quartiles Q1 and Q2 of a Normal distribution are 30 and 60 respectively. Find the mode.
Solution: Normal distribution is a symmetrical distribution then Mean = Median = Mode = μ.
we know that Q2 = P50 = D5 = Median. Given Q2 = 60, Here Mean = Q2 = P50 = D5 =Median
= Mode = μ. then Mode = 60.
11. For a Normal distribution, If mean = 10 find Q1.

12. If X is Normal Distribution with mean = 10 and variance = 9, Convert X to S N V.
Solution : Given X~ N(μ = 10, σ2 = 9) define

13. Under what conditions Binomial distribution tends to Normal distribution ?
Solution: Let X~ B(n, p), if n is too large i.e., n tends to infinity (n→∞) then Binomial distribution
tends to Normal distribution.

Solution: For a Normal distribution, probability within 2σ neighborhood of µ
