Course Objective:
The study of Comparative Political Thought is one of the key aspects of Political Studies. As
an important discipline of political analysis it not only forms comparative study of political
philosophers but also includes application of comparative method to understand different
Political systems, concepts, theories and ideas. The study involves transcending the boundary of
different cultures and civilizations in order to draw comparative understanding about their ideas,
principles and practice. The present course seeks to make comparative analysis between Western
and Indian schools of thought also identifying contesting debates between both. The course
includes classical and contemporary expression of both schools of thoughts by different
philosophers and debates between them. The paper will cover understanding of Indian political
thought revolving around the notion of Dharma (Religion), Rashtra (Nation), Nyaya (Justice)
and Loktantra (Democracy) from comparative perspective. It will provide new perspective
