Statement
To investigate the relationship between length of a current carrying wire and magnetic field.
Apparatus
• Power Supply • Connecting Wires
• Weighing Balance (Force Sensor) • Magnet Assembly
• Current Loop • Lab Stand
Procedure
1. First, assemble the apparatus mentioned above.
2. Place the current loop between the magnet assembly such that it does not touch the sides of the magnet
assembly.
3. Now set the power supply to 0A and find a point at which force sensor is showing zero reading.
4. Note down that reading in the table as m0.
5. Gradually vary the length of the wire and measure m and note down it in the table.
Observations & Calculations
[Link] Length 𝐦𝟎 m ∆𝐦 𝐅𝐦 = 𝐦𝐠
(cm) (g) (g) (kg)
1. 1.2 163.5 156.1 0.0074 0.072
2. 2.2 163.5 154.5 0.0090 0.088
3. 3.2 163.5 152.8 0.0107 0.105
4. 4.2 163.5 151.2 0.0123 0.121
Result
The graph shows that force is directly proportional to length of current carrying wire when B, I and 𝛳 are kept
constant.

Conclusion
• The magnetic force increases linearly with length, which proves that Fm=ILBsinθ.
• The tare mass was subtracted to accurately isolate the magnetic force, ensuring correct results.
• The experiment confirms that the magnetic force is zero when no current is flowing, confirming the
theoretical relationship.
