recording important
details from a source.

This source can be any


book, article , meeting,
lecture or any oral
discussion.

By taking notes, the writer


records the essence of the
information.

The noting down of useful


concepts and points is the
basis of what one says
Note Making.
Note Making has a great importance in exams or in
academic writing.

It is difficult for us to remember everything taught in


the class in the same order. Also in our daily lives, it is
not possible to memorize everything.

To overcome this difficulty, one notes down important


details . These notes help us in the time of need.

It saves a lot of time, energy by going through the notes


made.
Note Making helps us in
keeping the information handy
whenever we require.

One can get a glimpse of a lot


of information from a short
note.

It helps in recollecting and


recalling the past events said
or heard.
Note Making helps a writer

documents quicker.

It helps in understanding a

Read the passage carefully:

1. Much before medical science discovered it, Reader’s Digest came out
with the prescription- ‘Laughter is the Best Medicine.’ Newspapers and
magazines which regularly run humor columns are , therefore doing
their bit to keep the readers in good health. Reading light articles,
whether they are satirical, comic or just humorous, relieves the
tedium of work-a-day world. Some pieces may even tickle one’s grey
matter.

2. According to US researchers, laughter is a good antidote to stress that


tones up the system. Facial laugh muscles instruct the brain to ‘feel
good’ regardless of how you feel.

3. Laughter deepens breathing , improves blood circulation, speeds up


the process of tissue healing, and stabilizes many body functions. In
short, it acts as a power drug with no side effects. Researchers state
that laughter stimulates production of beta- endorphins, a natural
pain killer in the body and improves digestion. Those who laugh are
less prone to digestive disorders and ulcers.

4. Laughing is a good exercise of toning up facial muscles, laughing at


others expenses, particularly at their disabilities is a bad test and is to
be avoided. Secondly, laughing with food in the mouth is dangerous as
the food stuff can get into the wind pipe and may choke the digestive
system.

It is a true reflection of the writer’s ideas.

The summary should contain only the


main ideas and supporting details.

It should be grammatically correct and


cover all the important points given in the
notes.

Make sure that the summary does not


exceed 1/3 of the length of the original
text.
Laughter is indeed the best
medicine. It helps to reduce stress
and pain. It gives relief from a day’s
work and keeps us in good health.
Laughter tones up the body system,
deepens breathing, improves blood
circulation, speeds up the process
of tissue healing and has no side-
effects. But there are few rules for
laughter also. One must avoid
laughing at the expense of others,
at the disabilities of others and with
food in the mouth as it can prove
dangerous.
