Creating & Assigning a Customizing Transport Request in SAP ECC
Introduction
Whenever you make configuration changes in the SAP IMG (e.g., defining a company), SAP
prompts you to assign those changes to a *Customizing* transport request. This ensures the
changes can be moved from Development -> Quality -> Production systems.
When Does the 'Prompt for Customizing Request' Appear?
- After you click SAVE on an IMG activity that updates Customizing tables (e.g., V_T880 for
Company).
- It requests the TR (Transport Request) number to record the change.
A. Assigning to an EXISTING Transport Request
1. In the 'Request' field, place the cursor and press F4 (or click the search icon).
2. In the popup, click the radio button 'Own Requests' to filter requests created by you.
3. Select an OPEN request with type 'C' (Customizing) and double-click it.
4. Enter a short, meaningful description (if the field is editable).
5. Press the green tick [tick] or Enter to confirm.
B. Creating a NEW Transport Request
1. Press F4 (or search icon) next to 'Request'.
2. In the selection popup, click the *Create* icon (blank page) or press SHIFT+F6.
3. In the 'Short Description', write something clear, e.g., 'Define New Company 2025-02-09'.
4. Check that the *Transport Layer* is correct (often 'DEV' or 'ZDEV').
5. Save (Ctrl+S). SAP assigns a unique request number like DEVK900123.
6. Back on the prompt, the new request number is populated. Click the green tick [tick].
C. (Optional) Adding Further Tasks or Team Members
You can add tasks for other users under the same TR via SE09/SE10, right-click the request ->
'Create task'. Each consultant then releases their task before the basis team transports the main
request.
D. Transporting the Request to QA / PRD
1. Release the task(s) and then the main request in transaction SE09/SE10 (menu: Request/Task ->
Release).
2. Basis or transport administrator uses STMS to import the request into Quality and Production.
3. Verify the import logs for any errors.
E. Troubleshooting Tips
- If you cannot create a request, check authorization object S_TRANSPRT.
- If 'Transport Layer' is missing, the system might not be set up; contact Basis.
- Always work in the Development client; never create Customizing changes directly in QA/PRD.
