Numerical Methods Lec4

The document outlines objectives for learning numerical differentiation methods, including Newton and Gauss forward and backward difference formulas. It emphasizes the importance of these methods in estimating derivatives from equally spaced data when underlying mathematical laws are unavailable. Various approaches for numerical differentiation are briefly mentioned, along with examples for each method.

NUMERICAL METHODS

Objectives
To learn how to find the derivatives at the points from the
equally spaced data
1. Newton Forward Difference Formula
2. Newton Backward Difference Formula
3. Gauss Forward Difference Formula
4. Gauss Backward Difference Formula
Numerical Differentiation
Numerical differentiation are occasionally required in
practical work. For example, such methods are needed in
estimating derivatives for the data in which the underlying
mathematical law either does not exist or cannot readily be
determined.
Numerical analysis offers several approaches to
approximate the required derivatives.
