1. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Cabin crew are safety professionals and customer service representatives onboard.
a. Safety
Conduct safety checks of doors, slides, oxygen systems
Ensure passengers follow safety rules (seat belts, baggage)
Conduct safety briefings
b. Security
Maintain vigilance for suspicious activity
Lock cockpit door
Monitor galleys and lavatories
Implement unruly passenger protocols
c. First Aid
Handle conditions like fainting, seizures, allergic reactions
Use first aid kits, oxygen cylinders, AEDs
Document incidents
d. Customer Service
Welcome passengers
Serve food/beverages
Handle special meal requests, complaints
Assist elderly and disabled passengers
e. Evacuation Procedures
Use assertive voice commands: “Release seatbelt! Leave everything!”
Open and assess doors before use
Direct passengers and assist vulnerable individuals
Conduct headcount post-evacuation
2. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
a. Decompression
Immediate donning of oxygen masks
Rapid descent by pilots
Check passengers for hypoxia
Secure loose items
b. Fire Fighting
Classes of fire: A (combustible), B (liquid), C (electrical)
Use Halon extinguishers
Use PBE for smoke protection
Coordinate with other crew
c. Ditching
Issue life vests and instruct use
Inflate vests outside aircraft
Launch life rafts
Keep survival kits safe
d. Emergency Landing
Brief passengers on brace position
Secure cabin: galleys, lavatories, overhead bins
Turn off electrical items
Post-landing: evacuate if necessary
e. Emergency Equipment
ELT: Transmits distress signal
Megaphone: For crowd control
Crash axe: In cockpit
Emergency lights: Illuminate evacuation paths
3. STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
a. Pre-Flight Briefing
Includes safety responsibilities, equipment check, special needs passengers
Communication plan in case of emergency
b. Cabin Checks
Before takeoff/landing: seatbacks upright, tray tables stowed, seat belts fastened
c. Arming/Disarming Doors
Arming: Connects slide to door for evacuation
Disarming: Used for normal operations
d. Galley Safety
Lock carts and stow equipment
Avoid overloading bins
Maintain hygiene
e. Passenger Procedures
Assist with boarding and finding seats
Handle boarding issues (seat changes, excess luggage)
Greet passengers with professionalism
4. COMMUNICATION
a. PA Announcements
Boarding, safety demo, turbulence, descent, emergencies
Clear, calm voice
b. Hand Signals
Used during loud cabin noise or loss of PA
Pointing, waving, thumbs-up for silent coordination
c. Cockpit Coordination
Use interphone to report incidents
Advise on medical or security issues

Fill out Cabin Crew Report
Document timings, actions taken, outcomes
5. PASSENGER MANAGEMENT
a. Disruptive Passengers
Identify early signs (loud voice, aggression)
Use de-escalation techniques
Restraints if absolutely necessary
b. Passengers with Reduced Mobility
Assist during boarding and evacuation
Provide aisle wheelchairs, special seating
c. Infants & UM (Unaccompanied Minors)
Issue child safety harness
Ensure paperwork and handover procedure

Understand dietary restrictions, dress norms

6. HEALTH AND SAFETY
a. Fatigue Management
Monitor duty and rest periods
Report fatigue to supervisor

Isolate passenger if needed
Notify captain and ground staff

Sanitize surfaces, wash hands regularly
Use protective gloves when collecting waste
