Monkey Drug Trials Experiment
Title: Monkey Drug Trials Experiment

Authors: Deneau, Yanagita amp; Seevers

Year: it was done in 1969

Purpose:

The purpose of the experiment was to look at the effects of self administration on drugs, drug abuse,
and drug dependence in humans, by testing it on monkeys. They wanted to observe whether a
monkey would become addicted to drugs or not, and to understand better the effects of drugs.

Method:
First a method was developed, to teach the monkeys how to self administer the drugs through
intravenous catheters. Then the psychologist injected the monkeys for the first time the drugs.
Because they were several monkeys each one received a different drug, some received cocaine,
morphine, amphetamines, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers founded the reason why drug abuse takes place and how can a psychological
treatment will help people give up the drug addiction.

Discussion:
The experiment was very controversial because it was very unethical and the monkeys suffered a
lot of pain, and in some cases died of overdose.
The Helsinki declaration was founded in 1964 and since here they have been updating principles
of good practice in this kinds of experiments. They say, Welfare of animals used for research must
be respected . Since here the ethical views for non humans subjects started. Later on the APA gave
instructions to determine whether an experiments on animals is acceptable or not. For example
animal research should not harm the animal or distress it on any way. If the researchers don t follow
this code, they wont be allowed to keep on with the experiment.
In the case of this experiment was already done, but that s why still now a days is very
controversial and shocking, and is listed in one of the 10 most unethical psychological experiments.

Personal opinion:
This experiment in my opinion was useful to psychology. But I don t agree with the methods that
were applied. The researchers taught some behaviours to the monkeys that unless humans never
show them how to do they will never do it by themselves, like
Character Analysis Of The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
In the chapter, The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , we meet an interesting character named
Mary Anne. She was a seventeen year old lady who just got out of high school and went to visit her
boyfriend Mark Fossie in Vietnam. It started out as just visiting a childhood sweetheart, except it all
changed in a matter of weeks. Mary Anne began to take too much interest and she became engulfed
in vietnam. She wasn t all too careful, rather than her swallowing the land, she was swallowed whole
by it. Vietnam changed Mary Anne into something she never thoughtthat she would become, she
changed into a lone soldier, physically, behaviorally and psychologically.
The first was Mary Anne changed was physically. When Mary Anne first arrived, she was
described as, ...tall, big boned blonde (89) and with long white legs and a complexion like
strawberry ice cream (89) These descriptions symbolize how new that she was, the perfect example
of a lady. She slowly began to learn stuff from the boys around, and she became so committed to her
surroundings that she changed her appearance. ...stopped wearing cosmetics, no nail filing, stopped
wearing jewelry, cut her hair short (94) This symbolized the change throughout the weeks, how she
changed into somebody completely different than the first day that anybody saw her. She was
barely recognizable anymore. Once she started going off with the greenies, she started to look like
them. She wore a bush hat and filthy green fatigues... her face was
Global Engagement by John Nolan
I believe that to be globally engaged is to be constantly aware and apart of what is happening in the
world. Global engagement is necessary to obtain communication between nations to try and prevent
unnecessary events like wars from happening. In his book, Global Engagement, John Nolan writes
that ...Cooperative engagement is the appropriate principle for security relations under the new
international circumstances that have emerged. Cooperative engagement is a strategic principle that
seeks to accomplish its purposes through institutionalized consent rather than through threats of
material or physical coercion. ( Nolan, 1994, p.4) Nolan is saying that apart of Global Engagement
is creating an institution to organize people and problems to prevent catastrophes. Another definition
of Global Engagement is to ...make contacts in other parts of the world, journey to those places and
then develop relationships with the people they meet and work with there. (Presler, 2010, p.17)
Global engagement is to be interactive in the world especially by way of an organization. Pat
Robertsonis an excellent example of an organization that is globally engaged starting with his
leadership. Leadership is defined as central to the performance of organizations... (Dewan, T., Myatt,
D.2008 p.351) CBN, the Christian Broadcasting Networkwas started in the 1960 s through Pat
Robertson s leadership. The organization started small, with a television station that did not reach
many people.
Fescn2 Reaction Lab
The purpose of this lab was to figure out what the formation constant (Kf) was for FeSCN2+. To
answer this guiding question, Le Chatlier s principle, volume, absorbance, and concentration all
effect outcomes of equilibrium. For this reason, all three components will be collected in order to
solve for the average formation constant. Equilibrium is the rate at which the forward reactions and
reverse reactions become equal at a constant rate. Equilibrium constant, denoted by K, is the
relationship between the concentrations of product over the concentrations of reactants raised to
their specific coefficients. In the balanced equation of Fe3+ (aq) + SCN (aq) ⇌[Fe(SCN)]2+(aq), an
excess of Fe3+ is used to move the reaction into completion. In other... Show more content on

From data table 3, Kf values range from 327 to 362, averaging out to be 345. [Fe3+] and [SCN ]
initial concentrations were first calculated using Beer s Law M1V=M2V2 dilution equation. Then
[FeSCN2+] was calculated using the found concentration of [Fe3+] and [SCN ]. After that,
[FeSCN2+]eq. was solved by (A eq.)/(A sd. ) [FeSCN2+]sd.
[FeSCN2+] was then used in an ICE chart to determine the final concentration changes for Fe3+]
and [SCN ]. This allowed for the calculation of Kf = ([products])/([reactants]). The sample
calculations from beaker 1 are as written: initial [Fe3+]= ((0.00200 M)(5.17 ml))/(10.28 ml) = 1.01
10 3 M and initial [SCN ]= ((0.00200 M)(2.00 ml))/(10.28 ml) = 3.89 10 4 M → [FeSCN2+]eq.
= 0.318/0.818(2.00 〖10〗^( 4) M) = 9.36 10 5 M. The ICE chart from table 4 provides [Fe3+]
and [SCN ] in which Kf=(9.36 〖10〗^( 5) M)/((9.16 × 〖10〗^( 4) M)(2.95 × 〖10〗^( 4) M))
= 346. Furthermore, the large concentration of Kf supports the notion of the reactants being used up
and shifting the reaction towards the right. When comparing Kf values, others had values within the
300 to 350 range. Sources of error could consist of cross contamination of solutions and inaccurate

„They say Formula One is a market which it can t be, obviously. Our market is independent, it s a

Formula One is one of the biggest businesses in the world since the 1980s. The motor racing sport
itself is more than a century old, and through these years it carried out, survived and fought lot of
changes, innovation and development. Since the first Grand Prix in 1906 in Le Mans (won by the

Local promoters negotiated the terms of each team s participation individually, which often led to
disagreements and teams refusal from participation. This sense of uncertainty led to reluctance from
both the corporate sponsors and TV broadcasters to commit money and programming time to F1
events. The situation needed overarching agreements linking these players that make up the F1 world.

Case Study Of Tata Motors
1.What are the key challenges faced by Tata Motors in the process of moving to produce passenger
cars from successfully producing commercial vehicles?
Ans: Tata Motors was a leading player in the segment of commercial vehicle market. In 1954 Tata
Motors in collaboration with Daimler Benz started manufacturing heavy commercial vehicles like
excavators and earth moving equipment s. When Japanese firms Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan
entered the Indian market through joint ventures for manufacturing light motor vehicles, Tata Motors
took this opportunity and developed light motor vehicles (TATA 407, TATA 608, and TATA 709)
that went ahead of the Japanese firms due to low cost, adaptable to Indian road conditions and good
after sales service. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are Hyundai Motor s Santro , Daewoo Motors Matiz and Fiat India Uno . There was an effect
on price sensitivity as people are ready to pay more for fuel efficient cars.
In order to focus on the international car market they need to have world class standards. They
should be competent enough like managing the supply chain so that they could integrate products
and services both upstream and downstream
They should be able manage their alliances in a proper way to extend their market globally without
much using its resources.
The most challenging part is integrating the components with manufacturing operations since most
of the automakers are doing away with their business of assembling components.
Tata Motors have to take their decision whether to make or buy for the key inputs i.e, design, engine
and transmission.
Although different measures were taken by Tata Motors for their product design, engines and
transmission yet there were some obligations

Rotator Cuff Tears Research Paper
A rotator cuff tear is an injury that plagues much of the elderly population as well as a variety of
athletes. The etiology of a rotator cuff tear is primarily due to the degeneration of the tendons or
more specifically the thinning and disorientation of collagen fibers and degradation of various cells
and tissues. 1 Rotator cufftears are more likely to occur with age. Rotator cuff tears may occur due
to direct trauma such as falling or shearing linked to a simple throwing or rotation of the arm and
shoulder.2
Symptoms of a rotator cuff tear that many patients claim are impingement of the shoulder and pain
while resting or sleeping. However, these symptoms can be inconclusive and should be considered
with caution. For example, pain at night
Unit 2 P2
Task 2 P2 A Newtonian fluid is a fluid that exhibits constant viscosity regardless of any external
stress applied to it, like mixing or a sudden application of force. Like water; this flows in the same
direction regardless of whether it s left alone or agitated. A Newtonian fluid, by definition, can
only be affected by pressure and temperature together, or temperature, but not pressure on its own.
Water The viscosity of water can be affected by temperature, and by pressure and temperature, but
not by pressure on its own. As a liquid, it is incompressible and so isn t affected much by pressure.
As the temperature applied to water increases, it starts to become unstable, like when water in a pan
begins to boil and it starts to bubble. When water reaches its boiling point, its state changes from a
liquid to a gas, and it becomes steam.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air When the temperature of the air is increased, it starts to rise. This happens because the hotter
the air is, the less dense it becomes. The viscosity in air increases with the temperature; this is equal
to the square root of the temperature. The viscosity increases because the molecules collide more
frequently. Because of this, the molecules move around randomly, due to the increased number of
collisions. Air is normally independent of pressure. However it can be pressurised, like a deodorant
spray. Task 5
Plato s Happiest Way Of Life
Plato s Happiest Way of Life

A just life in a just society would be the happiest possible way to live for Plato. Justice is defined
as a balanced and well integrated specialization of functions both within the scope of society and
the individual. The just society classifies its members on the basis of individual differences in
intellectual and physical abilities and is therefore warranted. The way to achieve a happy life is only
half satisfied with the presence of a just society. Other than living in a just society, the harmony
between the parts within an individual s mind or soul is as important. The psyche contains three
elements: wisdom, spirit, and appetite. The wisdom in a person, similarly to the role of the rulers in
society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The metaphor of the cave is employed at this point to facilitate understanding with powerful visual
imagery. When the prisoners are seated with their backs to the fire, they are satisfying the desires of
their appetite by looking at the mere shadows and treating those as genuine objects. When freed to
turn around and face the actual bonfire, puppets, and their operators, the blessed prisoner has now
been drawn closer to truth. Upon ascending from the cave, the individual experiences a painful
process of adapting to the illumination of the sun (lower forms) and ultimately comes into direct
visual contact with the sun, which is a metaphor of the Good . He gains knowledge of the ultimate
truth the form of the good and experiences ultimate pleasure as a result. A most basic condition in
this intriguing metaphor is that the prisoner puts his mind and reasoning in charge because it is the
only method enabling him to perceive of the Good.
Plato proceeds to explain that a person can attain the greatest happiness as long as his spirit and
appetite follow the guidance of wisdom, which identifies proper and productive pleasure. It is only
rational and obvious that letting the man (reason) be in control of the lion (spirit) and the many
headed monster (appetite) would lead to prosperity and fulfillment

An example of this is found on pages twenty three to twenty four when Kit discusses slavery and
Kit s debt with her uncle, Matthew Wood. Talking about Kit s Grandfather dying, Matthew asks
Did you pay them? Yes, every one of them. All the land had to be sold, and the house, and the
slaves, and all the furniture from England. There wasn t anything left, not even enough for my

African slave who had been her shadow for twelve years. There was an awkward silence. Kit
found Mercy s eyes and was steadied there by the quiet sympathy she saw there. Then her aunt
came to put an arm across her shoulder. By the way Elizabeth wrote this story and by Matthew
