The Hunters; Scarce Resources in the Kalahari Essay
The !Kung bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa are one of the few bands of hunter
gatherers left in the world. They survive by foraging for their meals while traveling, never settling in
one specific area. Hunting and gathering was the primary mode of survival until about ten thousand
years ago. Anthropologists have made assumptions about the huntingand gathering lifestyle of
current populations because it seems like a precarious method of living. Moreover, the Kalahari area
where the !Kung live in was perceived to be baron because it is a desert. However, a study done over
a period of years beginning in 1960 led by Richard Lee disproved the common misconception of the
life of these foragers, proving that they were not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a six mile radius near each of the waterholes that had copious vegetation and an assorted
source of meat. This suggests that in order to obtain food, the people only needed to go a certain
walking distance. It was not necessary to travel for long periods to get a small portion of food, as
anthropologists thought. However, there was never a surplus of food, which could allude to the fact
that there was not enough food for a surplus. This was a misconception because the bush people had
more than enough food to live off, so there was no need to obtain a surplus because there was no
need to store food when it was readily available. Another misconception anthropologists had was that
the bush people had to hunt often for sustenance but this was invalidated. The Bushmen go out to
collect food around every third day throughout the year. Anthropologists thought when they went out
to get food, the !Kung people went hunting. This was not the case. It was proven that around 60 to
80 percent of their diets were comprised of vegetation from the area surrounding the camp. This can
be partially attributed to the fact that the men are not always successful when they go to hunt, and it
also involves the fact that there is a large variety of vegetation available to the people. Previously,
anthropologists thought that in a hunter gatherer society,
The Problem With Saying All Lives Matter Tyler Huckabee
In the article The Problem with Saying All Lives Matter , Tyler Huckabee (2015) states that it s
decreasing the relevant of All Black Lives and represents a complete misunderstanding of the
phrase Black lives Matter. He acknowledges the view that people are not decreasing the relevant
truth of All Black Lives Matter , but the emphasis of his argument is to educate people who don t
see the flaw and what the outcome of this movement may be in result. He provides an example of,
a 17 year old boy named Trayvon Martin, who was fatally shot while he was walking back from a
convenience store. Due to this incident, three women named Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal
Tometi (Founders of BLM) began tweeting #blacklivesmatter, it had transformed
How Did French Imperialism Affect Algeria
Algeria, which is taken up mostly by the Sahara desert, was apart of the Ottoman Empire lead by
Hussein Dey until France launched war due to a disagreement between a French consul and their
leader. And also because of their desire to expand their empire. They seized Algiers in 1830 and
came to have an intense impact on the area and its populations. Quickly France took control over the
coastal communities, Dey went into exile and the Algerians were resistant up until about the 1840s
and by 1847 Algeria was made a department of France. French colonization continued to spread
southwards in Africa. The effect France s imperialism had over Algeria during this time had to do
with modernizing their agricultural and commercial economy Involved the use of slavery. The

They began to create industries, banks, schools, shops, and services like those in France. There was
even a change in family structure, being that liberation was more encouraged for the Algerian
women by the French. The movement made the young women more responsible for the future of
their country, causing them to prioritize in such a way where becoming a wife was not the only
thing of importance. When France attempted to erase Algeria s Islamic religion, It caused for many
revolts. This did though, introduce the religion of Christianity to Algeria. In 1872 the French
stopped the revolt and began to lessen rights of Algerians increasingly. And so, in absence of full
rights, the citizens of Algeria had tried to keep their traditional ways without being able to carry
firearms, hold public meetings or leave their hometowns without being permitted by the French
Anne Frank
Being able to explore, and to see different things that people aren t used to in their own typical city,
or town amazes their wanderlust. The main reason to travel to a different place, whether it s another
city, state, or even country, is to discover new things and have new experiences. Amsterdam is a city
in the Netherlands that is known for their wealthy and populous culture. Many love visiting here to
explore all the beautiful architecture and history.
The history of this grand city goes all the way back to the 13th century. It came across in 1300,
and become part of the Hanseatic League in 1396. ( Columbia ) First beginning as a fishing village
along the banks of the Amstel River, it was a perfect fishing and trading port because of its great
location by the water, and canals that surrounded in, and around the city. Built on wooden concrete
piles, Amsterdam is the largest city in the Kingdom of Netherlands and has been the capital for
going on 200 years. (Chitton) Later years Amsterdam was affected by World War II, from 1939
1945 the Nazis were taking over. They took any Jewish person, and or families and punished them
for their beliefs, this is where Anne Frank came into the story. A lot of Jewish people took into
consideration that the best thing to do, was to hide from the Nazis. Anne Frank and her family were
some of the people that took part in that. They lived/ hid up in an attic above the father s office for
25 months. The building still stands there today,
Diamond Ranch High School Summary Analysis
Textures and materials are experienced through vision and touch. Playing with textures can create a
better experience for the user or even help with wayfinding for people who are blind. In Diamond
Ranch High School, the firm, Morphosis designed the school with multiple textures and materials
throughout. The ability of touch is very important. It relies on the signals given by our hands.
Without the senseit would be difficult to perform daily tasks opening a door and is also important for
communication. These signals are called somatosensory feedback. Without this it would be hard to
grasp things with our fingertips (Wood, 2014). Somatosensory feedback helps people sense pain,
temperature, touch, proprioception, etc (Tsuchitani). If people
The Book Of Proverbs In The Hebrew Bible
Introduction The Book of Proverbs, found in the Writings, the third division of the Hebrew canon,
is a unique book, entirely different from the rest of the Old Testament. There is no mention of the
Israelite forefathers, God s promises, or narrative of any event from Israelite history. Similar to Job
and Ecclesiastes within the genre of Wisdom literature, the Proverbs focus on patterns of life to
observe the acts of God , rather than declaring direct messages from him. The purpose of Proverbs
is to instruct the reader in attaining wisdom, the ultimate pursuit. The word wisdom (hokmah in
Hebrew) occurs thirty nine times and the adjective wise (hakam) forty seven times throughout the
31 chapters. The scope of wisdom applied in the Book of Proverbsranges from wealth to work to the
words we speak, encompassing nearly every aspect of life.

It is written entirely in poetry. Parallelism, a well known phenomenon in biblical poetry, is
especially present in Proverbs. Certain proverbs are experiential, telling it the way it is, more
practically than theoretically. At other times, the biblical saying goes beyond mere observation, to
urge a certain course of action. Portions of the Proverbs may have been assembled due to a desire
on the part of later scribes to preserve Israelite traditional wisdom, which was in danger of being
forgotten. The poetic form provided mnemonic value, as short, pithy sayings lent themselves more
favorably to memorization, securing their transmission to future
Advance Directives Research Paper
In a world of advancing healthcare, it is important to keep the patient s dignity and autonomy as
the focus of practice. One way to further patient centered care is the implementation of advance
directives. Advance directives are written wishes or instructions relating to an individual s extent
of care when they are unable to communicate themselves. (Galambos, 1998). This written
document is recognized under State law and should be recognized and honored by healthcare
providers while caring for the patients. Two of the most common forms of advance directives
include a living will or durable power of attorney for healthcare. It is common during a hospital
admission for a patient to be presented with a living will, or a checklist of medical interventions the
individual is willing or unwilling to accept (Mahon, 2011).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another type of advance directive is a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care. This is an
individual appointed by the patient to represent their wishes when they are unable to do so on
their own (Mahon, 2011). The type of advance directive is less important than the purpose that it
is set to achieve. The purpose is to allow patient to have a say in the care they are provided at a
time when they are able (Mahon, 2011). It is important to ensure an advance directive in order
preserve one s autonomy and participate in future care decisions. This paper will explore advance
directives within the context of federal and state laws, legal and ethical principles, and implication
for the registered
Auditory Input
Explain that wearing the aids as often and as consistently as possible is essential to speech and
language development for the child. The hearing aids provide access to sounds for the child and
without this stimulation speech and language development will be negatively impacted. Auditory
input is needed to help the child to learn to listen, if the aids are not being used and the auditory
pathways of the brain are not being stimulated then the child will eventually lose that ability. The
quality of the signal in the hearingaids is directly related to the child s speech intelligibility. A high
quality auditory input provides a better opportunity for learning and better speech intelligibility. Full
access is important for children who are learning

Oedipus as the Ideal Tragic Hero of Oedipus the King

In the introduction to Sophocles Oedipus the King, Sophocles defines a tragic hero as one who
[behaves] admirably as a man, [but who] is nevertheless tripped up by forces beyond his control and
understanding... (Sophocles 76). In Oedipus the King, Oedipus is the tragic hero. The force that trips
up the hero is fate, or, moira. It is Oedipus s actions that set the events into motion, but it is
ultimately his fate, and his attempted aversion to it, that brings about his downfall. This downfall,
and elements such as plot, character, diction and spectacle (Aristotle 175), that cause Oedipus the
King to be a tragedy.

In order to describe Oedipus as a tragic hero, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diction, quite simply, is word choice. In order to produce desired effects, the author of a work must
choose his or her words carefully. Once the writer has incorporated these elements into his or her
work, something must be included to hold the reader s attention. This is where a spectacle will
come in. An author will often include a fight or some other lively event to attract the reader and
entice them to continue reading (or watching, if they are seeing the play performed). One such
spectacle in Oedipus the King, is the description of Oedipus s fight with King Laios. It is an action
packed scene that is meant to draw the reader s attention.

Once it is established that Oedipus the King is a tragedy, one must look to discover who the
tragic hero is. It is implied that his would be Oedipus, as he is the main character and the subject
of the story, but there are legitimate reasons for this selection, also. Instilled in Oedipus are
qualities such as intelligence, honor, and strength. His intelligence is demonstrated by his solving
of the Sphinx s riddle. His honor can be implied by he way his people regard him so highly. His
strength his also demonstrated by this, as well as his ability to lead Thebes unexpectedly. He did
not expect to come to Thebes and become king, the duty was thrust upon him. Immediately, one
likes Oedipus, allowing us to feel emotions, like pity and fear, for him later.

The Elimination Of A Revision Surgery
SPECIFIC AIMS: This project focuses on the elimination of a revision surgery by aiming at
restoration of sagittal balance, appropriate deformity correction and advanced lumbosacral fixation
in a patient with scoliosis. Adult scoliosis with intended fusion stopping in the lumbar spine is
characterized by increased rigidity and lower rates of spontaneous correction of the unfused
fractional curves.[1]. Residual wedging of the lowest instrumented vertebra (LIV) can increase the
risk of and accelerate adjacent segment degeneration, adding on and revision surgerydue to
mechanical degeneration decompensation of the mobile lumbar segments. Scoliosissurgery stabilizes
and corrects only the affected areas of the spine. After surgery and over... Show more content on

An approach to optimize bone fusion rate is to consider FDA approved bioactive fibroin with
adequate temporal control characteristics as screws for implant. [5, 6]. However, only a handful of
polymeric bio materials are utilized today because of their failure to address critical issues like
compressive strength for load bearing bone grafts. Metallic fixation systems are currently the gold
standard for fracture fixation but have problems including stress shielding, palpability and
temperature sensitivity. Extensive research demonstrated that silk microfiber protein composite
matrices mimicked the mechanical features of native bone including matrix stiffness and surface
roughness that enhanced human mesenchymal stem cell differentiation. Administering effective
growth factors to specific sites in the silk scaffold would ensure osteoblast differentiation and cell
growth. Animal models have become the corner stone of research in the hope to illicit its etiology,
and thus redefine the state of the art, current concepts and future perspective of possible treatments
for scoliosis [1 3]. To date, many hypotheses have been put forward and studied to establish its
pathogenesis. These range from neurologic cause, to genetic mutation, to morphometric alteration
leading to disadvantageous biomechanical imbalances through to a probable multifactorial spinal
developmental disorder. The objective of this study is determine the
