Neurobiology Personal Statement Examples
Since my academic interests and strengths involve the mathematical and scientific topics, I had the
voluntary impetus to pursue them at UC Irvine with all of my effort and determination. My favorite
undergraduate courses were the Organic Chemistry 51A C series, which taught me the skills of
applying theoretical reactions into a lab setting as well as the significance of working through
numerous application problems rather than simply memorizing content. The professor stressed that
higher performing students tend to study earlier, not necessarily more and I abide by that statement.
Spring quarter of my third year, was when I decided to concentrate in neurobiology and highlight my
patient interaction skills at UCI Medical Center. As a result,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

My first Track Day at the Auto Club Speedway was in June. It was a great experience since I had
the ability to check all the technical components of my car before driving it on the track. I drove
for a bit at the track, but got caught up in observing the more experienced and professional drivers
pushing their cars to the limits. Experienced track drivers gave me tips on how to take the corners
quickly: braking point, turn in point, apex, as well as analyze the position and direction of the next
corner. After that day, not only did I learn how much brakes and tires wear, but I acknowledged the
importance of checking the essential components of one s vehicle and ensuring its safe driving
condition. This is similar as when one checks a patient s physiology before surgery
The Black Cat, By Edgar Allen Poe
Question #1 Romanticism is an intellectual, spiritual, and literary movement that begins at the
start of the nineteenth century and concludes at the beginning of the twentieth century. Of the
many characteristics that are associated with Romanticism, the characteristics that are most
evident in literature from this period are the characteristics of individuality and imagination. The
author Edgar Allen Poe exhibits these characteristics in his works The Black Cat , and the The
Raven . Concerning The Black Cat , Poe vividly portrays individuality as a connecting theme to
Romanticism because of the narrator s treatment of each character of the story s characters, his
wife and the cat. In the story, the narrator kills his wife in a more than demonical rage, for no
other reason than to express his rage at his wife s interference between him and the cat (723). He
acted alone, with no prompting from anyone other than himself. The cat as a character receives
no different of treatment from the narrator s wife: even the wife s own intervention on the cat s
behalf does not save it from its eventual demise, rather the narrator firmly resolved to put into
death (723). The only way the cat escapes death is through hinting at the narrator s murder to the
police through the house s walls. Poe also utilizes imagination in his poem titled The Raven . In
The Raven , the narrator has lost his wife, and is wondering if he will ever be able to find true love
again. In the poem s
Reflection Paper On Dance Performance
On December 1, 2017, in the University Theatre at California State University, Dominguez Hills, I
observed the fall dance concert Rise. It was choreographed by Amy Michelle Allen, Marco A,
Carreon, Sarah Cashmore, Jeff Hendrix, Erin Landry, Doris Ressl Acosta, and Kenneth Walker, with
the long cast of dancers. The production was pleasing, and would not have been believable without
the work from production designers, Frederick Depontee and Cheryl Sheldon. Rise is played out in
eight different danceroutines, which were Xtra Xtra, Scar Tissue, Hart Broken, Things Are A Stirrin
, and the rest are intermissions such as Female Energy, Women, Exotica, Strength In Numbers, and
Makina. This fall dance concert was filled with joy, darkness, torture, culture, and women s rights,
right when you sit down and observe through all 8 dance performances. It would have been 9 dance
routines but the dancer who was suppose to perform Hart Broken had an injury, which made a putt
off. Nevertheless the show must go on, it starts off with the first and second performance, Xtra Xtra
and Scar Tissue. Revealing that both performances were different themes because Xtra Xtra had the
dancers in radiant colors and seemed to be energetic, whereas the performers in Scar Tissue were
clothed in black attire, such as tutus, dresses, and tights, yet still energetic. This brought to my
attention that the whole dance performances were contrast to each other. Throughout the routines of
the dance concert, the
Modern Day Society And Creative Industries
Scriptwriters and Their Role in Modern Day Society
What would Hollywood and its producers do without scriptwriters? A person with a camera can
only do so much on their own; without a script there is no story to build a movie up from.
Essentially, an excellent script is the foundation for a brilliant movie. Furthermore, scriptwriting
has been an interest of mine since my seventh grade year in middle school, which was when I was
first exposed to drama. I was not a huge fan of getting up on a stage; however, I greatly enjoyed the
writing aspect of the class. I connected with the idea of telling somebody a story without having
to look them directly in the eyes, and I still feel this way today. Due to this feeling, I sense that I
would make a decent scriptwriter. Carrying on, this paper further examines the substantial role of
the scriptwriter in modern day society and creative industries. According to the National Careers
Service, a career search website based in the United Kingdom, scriptwriters are writers who create
screenplays (2015). Constructing characters, shaping dialogue, and writing an engaging plot are all
part of a scriptwriter s profession (AllAboutCareers Ltd, 2015). As a screenwriter, one might expect
to develop their own original ideas through writing and words to sell to producers. Some producers
may even commission a scriptwriter to create a screenplay based on an idea or true story.
Additionally, scriptwriters are often asked to adapt an existing
Essay about Themes in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby
Themes in Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby

The American Dream

On first glance, The Great Gatsby is about a romance between Gatsby and Daisy. The true theme
behind this wonderful novel is not merely romance, but is also a very skeptical view of the
extinction of the American dream in the prosperous 19s. This loss of the American dream is
shown by Fitzgerald s display of this decade as a morally deficient one. He shows its incredible
decadence in Gatsby s lavish and ostentatious parties. This materialistic attitude toward life came
from the disillusionment of the younger generation of the old Victorian values. Also, with
Prohibition in effect, illegal bootlegging practices made for yet another way for Americans to fall
down the path of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is just the same as the American dream money and decadence ruin it. I wouldn t ask too much
of her, I ventured. You can t repeat the past. Can t repeat the past? He cried incredulously. Why
of course you can! he talked a lot about the past and I gathered that he wanted to recover something,
some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy.

The Social Class Clash

Another theme in The Great Gatsby is one that is very evident throughout the novel. It is the
conflict between the new wealthy class of self made men and the old rich. This is most
noticeable in the physical separation between them. The new rich live in West Egg and the old
rich live in East Egg. The new rich people are not yet acclimated to being upstanding citizens so
they are not well connected in the social world, not to mention their incredibly ostentatious nature.
In Gatsby s situation, he lives in a huge, repulsively tacky gothic mansion and he throws wild,
lavish parties that could be better classified as raves. Daisy and Tom, who represent the old rich,
are very refined, tasteful, and very well mannered. However, the old rich also have come to rely
on their money as a defense against trouble (either that they have caused or become victim of).
This is exhibited very well when Daisy and Tom simply move away instead of going to Gatsby s
funeral. Gatsby, on the other hand, is extremely loyal to his friends
The Next Fifty Years in Space
The first fifty years in space saw its start when Russia launched Sputnik, the first man made satellite
in 1957. This ignited the Space Race and spawned a generation of enthusiasm in space travel and the
scientific studies that was mainly fueled by the West versus East mentality. It seemed like every kid
wanted to be Neil Armstrong during that era and that kept the following generation interested in
manned space flight. But, how relevant is manned space flight going to be in the next fifty years
with all these world and national issues happening around us that need to be given serious attention
and funding? Is there a future in space or should the United States direct their efforts elsewhere? One

Arguments Against Ratification
The United States Constitution is heralded as one of the most significant documents of today s
modern age, though ratification of the draft proposed at the Constitutional Convention became an
object of opposition with individual challenges in each colony. The Federalist Papers, a series of
essays authored by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under the penname Publius
to defend the Constitution, are historically viewed as a cornerstone for the ratification of the
document. The purpose of the collection at time of writing, however, was to argue for ratification
in New York State. The actual influence of the essays in the state of New York is uncertain, and
this conclusion can be drawn for several reasons. The Federalist Papers were not widely published
throughout the colonies, and even after publication, two thirds of the delegates in New York
opposed ratification. The amount of time taken during the New York convention to come to the
decision of ratification also shows the Papers did not have a decisive effect, as few were swayed by
the arguments presented by the Papers and hence, its authors, leading to the belief that yet another
factor had a larger influence on ratification.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collective statehood was a plausible outcome for the thirteen colonies, and the Articles of
Confederation poorly defined the loose union of states after the war, as it allocated little power to the
central governing body and hence promoted the creation of distinct political entities rather than a
unified nation. In response to war debt and state tax frustrations, the Constitutional Convention was
implemented in 1787 as a means for states to send delegates to compose a document more suitable
for the unification of a

Tier Hagenbeck is a zoo in Stellingen, a quarter in Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1863 by
Carl Hagenbeck Jr. with animals that belonged to his father. This zoo is significant because it had
set many new standards for zoos, the most important one being refining the zoos architecture to
better suit animals. He replaced bars with moats to separate animals that couldn t swim. Not only
did this allow for visitors to see all the animals as if they were in the open, but the usage of moats
accompanied by better habitats was a better treatment for animals. Many zoos modeled his
Gerard Manley Hopkins Poem Summary
Gerard Manley Hopkins employs diction, structure, rhyme, imagery and repetition in order to
impart upon the reader his message; mankind does not understand or appreciate the grace of God
because as a whole they value material things and take for granted every day, however despite
this God s love and guidance continues to manifest day by day in order to provide for his flock.
Hopkins employs the use of structure in order to emphasise the message of his poem onto the
reader. He uses a style of poem called a Petrarchan sonnetwhich is split into two parts: the opening
octave and the ending sestet. Each of these segments are used in a way to guide the reader along
the poem from the introduction of the problem to the conclusion. The problem is introduced in
the first quatrain of the octave when Hopkins states Why do men then now not reck his rod (line
4). This line asks the reader why mankind does not understand and appreciate the power of God.
This line from the opening octave is used to impart the problem upon the reader. The structure of
the poem as a Petrarchan sonnet is used in order to aid the reader in maneuvering the poem and
moving from one major development of the theme to the next, while also providing a clear
separation to emphasise a shift. Furthermore the nature of the Petrarchan sonnet is extended to
the sestet when Hopkins provides a solution to the problem and concludes the poem in a manner
that leaves the reader satisfied. He claims that nature is never spent (line 9) during the volta
which ministers the change of ideas expressed in the octave to the sestet. The rhyme scheme of
the poem is used largely in Petrarchan sonnets and have a specific goal. The goal is to connect
certain lines together to create a flow and rhythm to the work, and also connect ideas and further
emphasise a shift in idea from the octave to the sestet. The rhyme scheme in the octave is
ABBAABBA which connects the beginning quatrain and second quatrain of the octave in order to
emphasise the way the two feed off of each other to promote an idea. The first quatrain speaks to
the power of God when it says It will flame out, like shining from shook foil (line 3). This is
important because sixth and seventh lines rhyme

The Battle Of The War On Southeast Asia
Beginning in 1940 with the successful invasion of French Indochina, the Empire of Japan displayed
power over the colonialists from the Battle of Malaya to their occupation of the Andaman and
Nicobar islands. The prelude to Japan s war on Southeast Asia was its concurrent war against China
which had started in 1937. As a result of this invasion, culture within Southeast Asia was changed.
There are varying other factors to include when identifying how this occupation changed what was
currently then known as the Dutch East Indies, which includes the somewhat linear and consistently
rising changes socially, politically and economically.1 The beginning of regular contact between
Europeans and the people of Indonesia began in 1512, but it wasn t until 1800 that the government in
the Netherlands established the Dutch East Indies.2 For the duration of Dutch rule, their hold on the
Dutch East Indies was weak outside of coastal strongholds but it wasn t until the early 20th century
that their lands extend to what is currently recognized to be Indonesia s borders.3 A nationalist
movement had been undertaken by the people of Indonesia, however was often suppressed by the
Dutch. With this movement beginning in 1908 it wasn t until 1945 until the Nationalist Revolution
had begun. Lasting four years, the Dutch were consistently able to maintain industrial assets, towns
and major cities but found themselves with the inability to control the countryside.4 The inspiration
