Smart Growth Initiative in the Face of NJ Landscape...
Smart Growth Initiative in the Face of NJ Landscape Change
The face of the American landscape has undergone a period of fantastic change in recent decades.
With an expanding population and innumerable opportunities for economic and physical growth,
urban centers and sprawling suburbs have pushed farther and farther into outlying areas causing
pressures and development on previously untouched, natural lands. New Jersey has become, in many
ways, the focus in dealing with issues of sprawl and development within its relatively small space.
The most densely populated state in the nation, New Jersey often acts as a predecessor in both
having and dealing with issues of environmental concern and/or damage. Within the past ten years,
the issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The initiative itself is a bold step in the right general direction made by a group that, perhaps, bears
some of the greatest responsibility in deciding how the future American landscape will look and feel
to those who inhabit it. Unfortunately, where much is gained, it is often easy to overstep in trying to
reach a point and, in turn, miss the important details. The National Association of Home Builders
cites the United States Department of Agriculture in claiming that the amount of land used in the
nation today for growing crops is virtually identical to 50 years ago and losing farmland to urban
uses does not threaten total cropland or the level of agricultural production. Albeit an optimistic
prospect to the easy observer, this may be all well and fine for the landscape of the entire United
States, but the whole is nothing without its essential parts. New Jersey, because of its dense urban
and suburbanized population and plentiful but limited resources, is at the forefront of land use/land
planning in the 21st century with some buildout analyses speculating that the state has little more
than ten years before reaching maxing out it s habitable area. As such, New Jersey is a prime
example of why the National Association of Home Builders claim that the net total acreage of
agricultural land in the United States is misleading as it does not consider
Racism
Reflection on Documentary: Racism A History: The Colour of Money
Documentary: Racism A History: The Colour of Money provides a powerful illustration of the
historical origins and basis of institutionalized racism. The six short episodes explore and chronicle
centuries of European attitudes and practices regarding race and the transatlantic slave trade of
Africans. It underscores how economics served as the driving force behind slavery. The documentary
highlights that although slavery existed for several centuries prior to the slave trade, the concept of
racism is rooted in the enslavement and exploitation of Africans for labor and capital gain. The
documentary describes how the British s development of the transatlantic slave trade for colonial
America served as the catalyst for racism, not the reverse. As Professor James Walvin, Professor
of History Emeritus at the University of York explained in the documentary, the British don t
become slave traders and slavers because they are racist; they became racist because they use
slaves for great profit in the Americas and devise a set of attitudes towards black people that
justifies what they ve done. The real engine behind the slave system is economics. It exposes that
the concepts and practices associated with racism resulted from those who sought financial profit.
The British efforts to justify and sanction slavery and the exploitation of Africans for colonial work
and expanded wealth created a hierarchy of races.
Social and Political Critique and Commentary in Bonnie and...
Social and political critique and commentary in Bonnie and Clyde
The fact that the story is set 35 years ago doesn t mean a thing. It had to be set sometime. But it
was made now and it s about us. Roger Ebert 1
At the time of its release in 1967, Bonnie and Clyde was the subject of intense debate. While the
American film critic Roger Ebert hailed it as a milestone in American moviemaking, Bosley
Crowther, another critic, referred to it as a cheap piece of bald faced slapstick
Comedy . 2 It was called the sleeper hit of the decade, and gained extreme notoriety for its breakage
of traditional cinematic taboos, in that it showed rather explicitly both sex and especially, raw and
brutal violence. It greatly surprised both the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within this rather traditional framework however, Bonnie and Clyde makes several compelling
statements about 1960 s America. [This is too short to be a paragraph on its own.]
Violence almost defines Bonnie and Clyde. It runs like a silver thread through the entire film.
Graphic violence is today a rather common and somewhat natural characteristic of modern cinema,
but before Bonnie and Clyde, it certainly was not. Arthur Penn introduced it in 1967. Before
Bonnie and Clyde violence in film was hinted at or just implied through various sorts of acting
techniques. Arthur Penn decided to show the audience the real, brutal and raw side to violence,
using brilliant camerawork but more importantly, top notch special effects and masterful visual
skills. In Bonnie and Clyde the violence never feels fake, but terrifyingly real. Take for example
the first graphic scene of the film, in which Clyde shoots a store owner s face clean off, as he tries
jump aboard the robbers getaway car. The man s head basically explodes, splattering blood and
pieces of brain all over the car window, and Penn shows us, the audience, this (although not in a
Tarantinto splasher like way, but nevertheless) in a quite unromantic but very powerful and dramatic
way. The scene is almost reminiscent of the famous scene from Battleship Potemkin 3 where the
mother is shot in the face, and her
Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese...
Institutional Environment as a Determinant of Chinese Private Firm Export Behaviors:Does
productivity counter the effect of institutional environment?
We introduce institutional environment as a measure of the degree to which policies and institutes
in one region differ from those in another region in china, where market are distorted across space
and region[1]. We employ a modified heterogeneous firm model developed by Mayer and Melitz et
al(2011)[12] to examine whether such institutional environment differences affect the firms export
behavior. Employing data for china firm level exports in 29 province for which measures of
institutional environment can be constructed, we find that better institutional environment enhances
firm s export behavior. This results holds for the low level of financial constrains firms, but are
reversed by the con export effect of productivity in the aggregate firms and the high level of financial
constraints firms. Productivity is found to exert a con export effect that completely offsets the trade
enhancing effects of institutional environment.
I. Introduction
Despite a voluminous literature on the impact of firm productivity on export behavior, the effects
that institutional environment differences among regions may have on firm s export behavior and
the extent to which productivity may counter these effects have received little attention. Institutional
environment difference is defined as the degree to which policies and regulations
The Importance Of The Fourth, Fifth, And Sixth Amendments
The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments were created to protect American citizens and give them
rights. Even know a person is arrested does not mean he or she is guilty of crime. In The United
States we have a justice system in place to determine if the subject is guilty or not and to ensure that
the person who was arrested rights were not violated. This includes the right to council, issued of the
Miranda warning, and a speedy trial. If the subjects rights were violated this can mean rather the
subject is guilty or not he or she could be let go or found not guilty. Evidence that was submitted that
was found by violating a person s rights can also be excluded from court. The Fourth, Fifth, and
Sixth Amendments affect the court proceedings on day to day operations in both juvenile court and
adult court.
The Fourth, Fifth, Sixth Amendment is very important in the court system and to every case that
goes through. Here is a brief version of those amendments that is important in the court. The fourth
amendment gives people the rights to privacy of the person, house, papers, and effects against
unreasonable search and seizure. The only way for a search to happen is with a warrant or upon
probably cause. The Fifth Amendment is people have to be indictment of a Grand jury to answer for
a crime, you can be tried twice for the same crime, or made to testify against oneself (Massey, 2016).
Also a person cannot be deprived of life, liberty, and property without due process of
The Devil And Tom Walker Essay
Washington Irving s The Devil and Tom Walker illustrates how an individual s corruption results
from their ability to resist temptation, the virtue to act generously, and the self discipline to perform
genuinely. Temptation, symbolized by the Devil and characterized by desperation in this prose, is
that catalyst that forces Tom s proverbial ball to roll. First and foremost, Tom chooses a shortcut
home out of ease and lack of time that like most shortcuts... was an ill chosen route (280); along his
path of smothering mud (280) and half drowned, half rotting [hemlocks and pines] (280) likely
representative of the comeuppances of giving into temptations Tom confronts the Devil for the first
time and eventually ends up selling his soul
Maasai
Last night, I attended a live performance by the team of six Maasai. They re from Kenya and came
to America to share knowledge about their traditions and style of living. Their unique culture and
traditions are still intact since ancient time. Another biggest reason they re here is to help Kanye.
The country is located in east Africa and has 43 million people population. In some part of Kanye,
there s no water, food and other life essentials. Women s have to walk up to 25 miles to get water.
And it s not guaranteed the water their kids are drinking is clean. They bring jewelry or crafts to
self in the United Statesto help fundraise money. Kanye all of the tribes have a unique cultural
practices. This event was sponsored by the cultural affair... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They even dances with the audience which was pretty awesome. One of the dance was the
jumping dance. I looked up the name for this jumping dance which is Aduma or Aigus. This dance
is for young man to become a senior warrior and pick their choice of wives. Two men would jump
and compete for who would jump the highest. The women also jump to impress, however last night
they did not jump. Because of their dresses they didn t jump. The singing would start off with a high
pitch and end with soft tone. Over all their performance and interaction with the audience was worth
Freshman Year At Nazareth College Of Rochester Our...
Freshman year at Nazareth College of Rochester our volleyball team made it to the NCAA
championship hosted by our college. We competed through the regular season with a record of 29 1,
easily won the first 3 matches of the NCAA tournament, and had earned our way to the finals. The
night before the championship, we had our usual team dinner, gathered to watch film of the other
team to best prepare for our contest, then headed back to our respective roomsto sleep. Sleep was not
easy that night due to the thoughts of having the chance to be a national champion the next day.
Sunday morning came, I woke up at 8 a.m. and left my dorm room to have breakfast with the
team. After roughly 45 minutes we headed down to the locker room to get ready for our light
morning practice. We waited around in our locker room till 10 a.m., then went up to the gym for
the practice, which was an hour. After that, we all showered and changed and left for the media
room by 11:30 a.m. to review game film and strategies. After a long 2 and a half hours we met for
a large lunch prepared by the coach s wife. We all ate as much as we could so we only had to eat
lightly before the 7 p.m. game. By 3:30 p.m. we all had gathered in the locker room to prepare for
the match. Guys were making jokes and goofing around trying to lighten the anxiety of the
upcoming contest. 4:30 p.m. came and most of the guys went to the trainer s room to get stretched,
heat packs, and taped up. 5:55 p.m., we left the locker room
What The Two Basic Types Of Feedback Loops Are Positive...
1.Explain what the two basic types of feedback loops are and how they work, please give an
example for each.
The two basic types of feedback loops are positive feedback and negative feedback. Positive
feedback is a loop that perpetuates itself; that is, the product of the loop drives the process on. An
example of this is the relationship between rising global temperatures and arctic methane release.
Large pockets of methane gas are embedded in the permafrost of the Arctic region and global
warming has caused accelerated melting of the ice there, resulting in the release of the stored
methane. Methane is a strong greenhouse gas and, upon entering the atmosphere, contributes to
global warming itself and further contributes to the melting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The classic example of this model is the story of the Indian rice story. A king challenged a traveler
to a game of chess and, if the traveler won, he could ask for any reward he would like. The
traveler asked to be paid in rice, starting with one grain on the first day and doubling in amount
each subsequent day for the rest of his life. Thinking this was a small request, the king agreed and
lost. However, what he did not realize is by the twentieth day, the king would be paying the
traveler one million grains of rice. This demonstrates the powerful effect of exponential growth on
a population size. Doubling time is the length of time it takes for a population to double in size.
Earth s human population has seen decreasing double times over the last millennium as a result of
human exponential growth. Starting from the year 1171, it took 544 years to double our
population from 375 million to 750 million. Afterward, it took 166 years to double our population
to 1.5 billion people. Next, it took 79 years to double to 3 billion and then only 39 years to double
once more to 6 billion people on Earth by 1999.¹ The onset of the Industrial Revolution and advances
in agriculture and medicine have all made profound contributions to the human exponential
population growth by reducing the environmental and resource limitations that previously kept our
population growth in check.
Essay on Primo Levi- Pain Retold, Is Pain Redoubled
quot;Pain retold, is pain redoubled quot;
What prompts someone to write about their suffering, and how do they convey a sense of their
emotions to the reader?
Primo Levi is a Holocaust war victim, a survivor from Auschwitz, who for years was plagued by
guilt because he survived a feeling that is passed on in Jewish tradition, which I understand being a
fellow Jew. Jewish heritage is very important to all Jews; myself included, which is one reason why
I can connect with the poet/author, his poems and his other works. Levi decided to write, rather than
keep in, his feelings, and subsequently wrote both poetry, and a variety of prose, both fiction and
autobiographical.
The emotions in two of his poems, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levi places a lot of emphasis on his titles and opening lines. The title Shema is the name of the
most important Jewish prayer. This prayer teaches us to remember always that we are followers of
Gd and that we should not forget it. Literally, Shema means Hear, or Listen it is a word that all
throughout my history has inspired and healed. Levi uses it convey the importance of his story. It is
a powerful word that carries with it much importance and history. There are several other references
to certain aspects in the Jewish faith, quot;...When you are in your house...when you go to bed and
when you arise quot; which reinforce the Jewish ideal that the story should be retold and never lost.
The Survivor refers to the deeds that one must do to survive. quot;Sometimes...the things you do
to survive are worse than the survival itself quot; (Se Questo ? Un Uomo). In the first few lines
Levi refers to The Ancient Mariner, a poem where the sailor is doomed to wander the world with
the weight of his crimes around his neck. Levi sees this as a personification of himself that he will
forever walk the world knowing that he is alive, and the others not. This reference holds so much
importance the guilt of a previous person transposed into his native language portrays the outpouring
of guilt that he feels, coupled with loneliness and the eternal weariness.
Another of Levi s books, The Periodic Table
