An Voluntary Control Over More Automatic Brain Systems
Pedretti, Pendleton Schultz Krohn (2006) define attention as being this voluntary control over more
automatic brain systems to effectively select and manipulate sensory or stored information briefly or
for sustained periods. One component of attention is this term sustained attention , which is the
ability to consistently engage in an activity over time without loosing concentration (Willard
Spackman, 2014). Willard Spackman express that repetitive and predictable activities place less
demands on sustained attention. Attention process training (APT) is a computerized training
program that provides practice in five types of attention: focused, sustained, selective, alternating
and divided (Park, Proulx Towers, 1999). Several research studies have concluded that specific
components of attention need specific training and that with sufficient training it is possible to
improve aspects of attention and other cognitive functions (Park et al, 1999; Sohlberg,
McLaughlin, Pavese, Heidrich Posner, 2000). Before each task is completed, the requirements are
briefly explained and usually take between 2 3 minutes to complete. A low level evidence ... by
Park et al (1999) concluded that the APT program improved the functioning of specific cognitive
processes underlying attention but not general cognitive functioning. The APT program was
designed to last for 40 hours with an average of 20 sessions. If the participant were to make three or
more errors these tasks were repeated
On Liberty Essay
Analysis amp; Critique of
J.S. Mill s On Liberty
The perception of liberty has been an issue that has bewildered the human race for a long time. It
seems with every aspiring leader comes a new definition of liberty, some more realistic than others.
We have seen, though, that some tend to have a grasp of what true liberty is. One of these scholars
was the English philosopher and economist J.S. Mill. Mill s On Liberty provided a great example of
what, in his opinion, liberty is and how it is to be protected. In this essay we will examine Mill s
ideals concerning liberty and point out a few things he may not have been realistic about.

Not to silence them in favor of having no opposition. All that is accomplished by this is the
handicapping of society, for it is true in every aspect of life that the only way to improve is to go
against opposition and to learn from it. Along these lines it would make sense that the most
important ideas out there are the unpopular ones because these are the issues that are being neglected.
The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what
ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be?
Knowing where that line is tough. Mill s answer to this is that society has jurisdiction over every
aspect of behavior that, quot;affects prejudicially the interests of others. quot; More specifically
society has no interest in the aspects of one s life that affect only the individual acting, or others,
for that matter, that are affect at their own consent. Society has no right to keep a person from
doing with his life what they wish, and it is stupid to do so their own good for nobody will every
truly know what someone else aspires to do. Though Mill rejects the concept of the social contract
he does believe that people do have obligations to the society in exchange for the protection of their
freedom. And if one acts in a manner that harms the society as a whole then they are subject to
punishment. Not
Twelve Key Economic Indicators
Economic Analysis
In order to obtain a rounded view of the economic environment within the U.S. twelve key economic
indicators can be observed. These fall into the categories of leading and lagging indicators. Based on
the data of these indicators, a picture of the current and future economic environment can be
obtained.
The seven lagging indicators used to capture this economic picture include GDP changes, income
levels, unemployment rates, the Consumer Price Index, the U.S. Dollar Index, interest rates, and
corporate profit levels. Beginning with GDP, figure 1A shows the quarterly percentage change in
GDP for the United States. This data indicates that the U.S. GDP growth has been mixed over the
past five years, but has been growing at a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
economy, five leading indicators can be observed. These include the stock market, inventory
levels, retail sales, new housing starts, and the housing market. The two primary measures used
for the stock market are the NASDAQ and S P 500 indexes [figure 2A]. The S P 500 index has
steadily grown at a low rate over the past five years, and the NASDAQ index has grown at a faster
rate. There is indication that the stock market began to plateau starting in the second quarter of
2015. Inventory levels, as seen in figure 2B, show growth through 2014, but began to decline
starting in 2015. Retail sales [figure 2C] show a similar trend, as they showed steady growth
through 2014, but show indications of plateauing, as growth declined in 2015. However, residential
construction and housing show a different indication. New housing starts, shown in figure 2D, have
steadily grown over the past five years, with a very slight decline in average growth rate in 2013.
Housing prices within the U.S. have grown steadily since 2011 [figure 2E].
These leading economic indicators give the general direction that the U.S. economy is headed. The
data indicates that there may be a slowing of growth within the economy. There is no strong
indication of economic downturn, but the slowing of growth indicated could hint at an increased
chance of downturn in the more distant future. Taking the lagging indicators into account as well, it
can be seen that the U.S. economy has slowly grown as it was recovering from the 2008 downturn,
but the future holds the possibility of slowing growth in certain
Socioeconomic Mobility And Social Mobility
In the United States, there is a imaginary finish line wanting to be met by its people. Living like
the privileged strives people towards working harder to meet that goal, but the amount of hard work
being invested into the bigger picture does not really mean you will make it. It is shown that a low
percentage of the average hard working person meets the one percent that owns more than half the
money circulated within the U.S (Beeghley 2008). Social mobility, where it all begins is taken into
account from the day a person is born based on the social classtheir parent or parents are under or
above on the ladder. According to the text there are five factors in social mobility those are
intergenerational, upward and downward social mobility, structural and exchange mobility. In
chapter eight point four a women by the name of Janice was expressed in the text as a women
who joined the intergenerational group who made it to an upward social mobility due to her
college experience and degrees earned meeting the change in social class from one generation to
the next on the account of her single mother who worked under a toyota dealership (lopoo and
DeLeire 2012). She so happened to be born when the economy was booming and was given an
abundance of opportunity within businesses and colleges were looking for women with a working
class background. Janice later goes on to owning her own business. The chances of being born when
opportunity is great is by chance, those born during
The Intellectual And Emotional Impact Of Rubin Carter
After a careful consideration of the intellectual and emotional impact of the biographical movie
about Rubin Carter on me, I realized that it is both a tear jerker and a rage inducing movie. When
watching The Hurricane, I felt sadness and anger that made me stand up and applaud Carter s
heroic character and, the same, curse the broken law enforcement system. Rubin Carter was
innocent of all charges, but he was wrongly accused and still had to spend 20 years in Prison.
There are no words to describe the type of injustice that he endured. Before finding the possible
solutions to the problems related to the corrupt policeand the blue code of silence that they reply on
to cover their mean deeds, it is important to point out the contextual background

A Recent Public Health Concern Has Implicated Polyethylene...
Specific Aims A recent public health concern has implicated polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
plastics, commonly used in recyclable plastic water bottles, as a common source of carcinogenic
xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens act as hormone disruptors, and can alter the natural homeostasis of
the human body. Exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals has been known to cause cancer,
sexual dysfunction, and problems during puberty. Better understanding exposure to these chemicals
will help improve awareness of the issue and hopefully prevent some exposures. An experiment has
been devised to study the quantity of xenoestrogens present in two common types of water bottles,
BPA free bottles and recyclable single use plastic water bottles. Due to the... Show more content on

Postmodernism and Identity in Haruki Murakami s Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the
World Since the Age of Enlightenment, the ideas of identity and consciousness have been explored
by philosophers, psychologists, writers, and more. Since then, the definition of what identity is has
changed and evolved, leaving the true, overarching definition unknown. In his novel Hard Boiled
Wonderland and the End of the World, Japanese author Haruki Murakami explores the ideas of
identity and the consciousness through ideas brought up by postmodernist philosophers and
psychologists such as Karl Marx, C.G. Jung, and Sigmund Freud and uses them to create
characterization, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Jung, One function of consciousness is to maintain the relationship between the ego
and the unconscious (Laughlin, Tiberia, 131). To understand this completely, we must look at Jung
s ideas involving the consciousness. Jung believed that the consciousness is comprised of
innumerable archetypes defined as a very typical example of a certain person or thing that we have
by simple virtue of being human. Then depending on how and what the person experiences some of
these archetypes will develop into networks, known as complexes. Finally, one will gain dominance
of the consciousness and is called the ego complex. This brings us back to the point made earlier,
that one of the functions of the consciousness is to maintain the relationship between the ego and
unconscious. Basically, what Jung is saying is that there is two personalities in the human mind. One
is called the ego, and the other is the unconscious. Freud said the same thing, calling it the ego and
id. But that is what the story arcs in the novel stand for. The Calcutec has a very well developed
unconscious, which is something many people don t have. So instead of not knowing the
personality in his unconscious, he sees it as a coherent story in which he is a completely different
story. It is mentioned in the arc of Wonderland that he actually doesn t know when he is one or the
other until the Professor explains it all to him.
Something a reader notices upon reading the novel is the
A Life Changing Event For Women
Labor may cause the worst pain a woman has ever experienced. However, each woman s
experience of the pains of labor are an individual experience regarding their coping abilities,
sensitivity to the sensations of birth, and type of pain. Women also differ in their abilities to tolerate
a higher sense of painwithout distress whereas, other women experience high levels of distress that
caregivers have deemed a moderate level of pain. Accordingly, some birthing mothers under value
the pains of labor and are not equipped to cope with it. The process of delivering a baby is a life
changing event for women. Childbirthis a natural endeavor. Women have been giving birth for
thousands of years. A women s anatomy and physiology is designed for the birthing process.
According to Weatherspoon (2011), Adequate preparation, education, and support for most women
who desire a natural approach allows successful childbirth (p. 44). Natural or complementary and
alternative medicine (CAM) methods also give the expecting mother an alternative to
pharmacological interventions. Non pharmacological interventions after often as effective as
traditional pain medication, but without the side effects to the mother or the fetus (Sullivan and
McGuiness, 2015 p. 20). CAM therapies are designed to help the birthing mother by having their
body release endorphins, which are own built in pain relievers. These methods also help distract the
mother s pain aids in calming and relaxing her as she goes
Case 6-3 Eli Lilly in India
CASE 6 3 Eli Lilly in India: Rethinking the Joint Venture Strategy
1. I think Eli Lilly pursued the right strategy joining Ranbaxy Laboratories to enter the Indian
market. While companies were using the global market to amortize the huge investments required
to produce a new drug, they were hesitant to invest in countries where the intellectual property
regime was weak. During the 1990s both companies had a strong reason for the joint venture.
Ranbaxy wanted to make its presence globally and Lilly wanted to get their feet on Indian grounds.
In 1992, Ranbaxy approached Lilly to investigate the possibility of supplying certain active
ingredients or sourcing of intermediate products to Lilly in order to provide low cost sources of ...

Moreover, by 1995, Lilly had moved up to become one of the leading pharmaceutical supplier in
the world, sixth in the U.S. market, 17th in Europe and 77th in Japan. Much of Lilly s sales success
through the mid 1990s came from its antidepressant drug, Prozac. But with the wonder drug due to
go off patent in 2001, Lilly was aggressively working on a number of high potential products. By the
beginning of 2001, Lilly was doing business in 151 countries, with its international sales playing a
significant role in the company s success. Another important achievement was accomplished in the
early 2001. Both companies had grown up and the venture was recording an excellent growth rate,
surpassing the average growth rate in the Indian pharmaceutical industry. Eli Lilly Ranbaxy had
already become the 46th largest pharmaceutical company in India out of 10,000 companies. Several
of the multinational subsidiaries, which were started at the same time as ELR, had either closed
down or were in serious trouble. Finally, in addition to its joint venture with Lilly, Ranbaxy made
three other manufacturing/marketing investments in developed markets such as a joint venture with
Genpharm in Canada, the acquisitions of Ohm Labs (USA) and Rima Pharmaceuticals (Ireland).
With its investment in the joint venture, Ranbaxy was expecting a reasonable return and not only the
The Elements Of A Collection Framework And Increase The...
Abstract:
In software development, there have a complex problem is found out that object, class or similar
types of data cannot be plugged in when inference miss matches. Collection framework is used to
overcome this problem. A unified interface to store, retrieve and manipulate the elements of a
collection is provided by collection framework. A collection framework package contains a set of
interface, implementation classes and algorithm such as sorting and searching algorithm. But user
cannot understand by which collection framework is worked out. However,in various way many
user can understand this point such as programming language. In many papers they have used only
object pattern diagram but in this paper we use object and class pattern diagram. In this paper we
give an improving way of adapting of the collection framework and increase the capability of
existing adapted data type.
Introduction:
A group element of same type can be stored by using array. But it has a fixed length which cannot
be changed once allocated. Collection framework support dynamically allocated data structure. It
mandates the common behaviors of all classes. A framework is a set of interfaces that force you to
adopt some design practices. A well‐designed framework can improve our productivity and provide
ease of maintenance. In software development signature mismatches is a problem. Recently it can be
overcome in many ways such as object pattern design, class pattern design, programming
Rousseau s The Social Contract
The Social Contract is an agreement by a group of people that enter for mutual benefit between
individuals. Similar to Locke s social contract, Rousseau wanted his citizens to have rights, liberty,
freedom and equality. This quote from Rousseau book The Social Contract summarizes his belief on
human nature, In a well governed state, there are few punishments, not because there are many
pardons, but because criminals are rare; it is when a state is in decay that the multitude of crimes is
a guarantee of impunity. (The Social Contract). In the quote it tries to state that crimes don t happen
because people are naturally evil but that the community or country corrupts the person. This
concludes that Rousseau s view on human nature is that
The Impact Of Public Private Sector On Public Infrastructure
EXECATIVE SUMMERY
UK s infrastructure is majorly relies on private funding, more than 64% of the infrastructure is
privately funded. We believe that involvement of private sector in public infrastructure plays vital
role in delivering innovation, skills and investment to the society. As the demand and need of
infrastructure is rising year by year looking toward that services should not delivered by public
sector only but also from outside (joint ventures, private sector, employee led mutual, social or
commercial providers or charitable enterprises).
Private sector delivers services and infrastructure in various ways by doing privatisation in which
both ownership and risk transferred to the private sector, to conventional procurement models where
the Government contracts with the private sector for specific packages of works or services. Till
now (in traditional model) government was only responsible for all risk and procurement, but now
government have lunched some skims which empowers the infrastructure form private sector.
Concept of PPP (Public private partnership) was introduced, in which work and risk are shared
between public and private sectors. Mostly this concept include short term, medium term and long
term contracts or longer run private finance partnership such as Private Finance Initiative (PFI).
Which gives clear advantage of completion of project within budget and time with maintaining
quality.
In this report past and present status of private finance in
