My Passion For Cheerleading
Carmen Chessa

10/5/17

ENG 096

Becoming a cheerleader at such a young age, being on the cheer mat became a happy place for
me. I spent thirteen out of my eighteen years of my life cheerleading and it is definitely something
that means a lot to me. Being on the cheer mat whether at practice or at competition has taught me
many life lessons that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Having such caring and dedicated
coaches made my experience so special and unique. My passion for cheerleading shows
tremendously as soon as I step on the mat, and learning many life lessons from cheer has shaped me
into the person I am today.
In competitive cheerleading stunting is one of the most important things in a cheer routine.
Stunting is something every team wants to be the best at, but it takes a lot of hard work and
dedication to be the best. Throughout a majority of my cheerleading career I was a base. A base
is the girl at the bottom of the partner stunt/pyramid who lifts up the flyer. I loved to base. I had
lots of experience as a base and it became very easy to me. Coming on to the high school competition
cheer team as a freshman, I knew there was a lot of new things I would have to learn as a base. I
was very motivated and dedicated to be the best base I could be and that took lots of practice. The
next year, coming onto the team as a sophomore my coaches had the idea for me to become a flyer.
Flying is something I have never done. I was very nervous at first but I was
The Pursuit of Virtue in Pride and Prejudice Essay
Virtue is truly a complex word an element of the essence of man that Jane Austen portrays in her
novel Pride and Prejudice . Through a profound scrutiny of the character of the protagonists, and
through her interpretation of how vanity, pride, and self knowledge intervenes in the development of
the virtueof the characters,
Austen intends to show how human happiness is found by living in accordance with human dignity,
which is a life in accordance with virtue.
Austen creates a scenario where she allows the reader to identify a variety of persons, each of them
with a certain and peculiar character. With this diversity, we are able to highlight in each person of
the novel, different traits that can lead us to talk about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, vanity relates to what we would like others to think of us, but is not merely a concern with
what others think. Having this definition in mind, then, we can say that Elizabeth Bennet can be
accused of vanity, because she is excessively concerned with what one person Mr. Darcy thinks of
her. Undoubtedly, this comparison shows us that one of the characters, Miss Bingley, lacks
completely of virtue. The Aristotelian definition of virtue says it is a point between a deficiency
and an excess of trait, and the point of greatest virtue is the exact middle, the golden mean. The real
virtue is confidence, it is between self deprecation and vanity, and undoubtedly Miss Bingley is
completely in the worst extreme.
Instead, remaining with Austen definition of vanity, Elizabeth is not at the greatest point of virtue,
but is actually near to it.
It is really important to keep in mind, that if we want to move away from the extremes and achieve
the maximum point of virtue, self knowledge has a central role, as it is a prerequisite for moral
improvement that will conduce us to the foundation of good principles. In the novel,
Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are only free of their pride and prejudice, which was an impediment
to their love, when their dealings with one another help them see their faults and encourage them to
improve. So by leaving behind those traits, both were closer to
Panama Canal Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement

There is no doubt that the building of the Panama Canal was a major feat in history that has made a
huge impact on the way many countries trade with each other. It was a great struggle to complete
but it also was very rewarding.

The Land Area

The Isthmus of Panama is about 50 miles wide at its narrowest point. The land was thick with jungle,
deep swamp, and mountains. What the surveyors did not realize is that the geology behind the land
made it much harder to build the canal than in other places around the world. The surrounding
mountain range was formed differently than most mountain ranges, commonly formed by folding
due to lateral pressure. These mountains were formed by individual volcanic actions. Formations ...

In 1876, French Navy Lieutenant Lucien N. B. Wyse, a grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, was sent
to explore locations and different possibilities for the canal. He returned home in April 1877 and
showed De Lesseps the construction plans. De Lesseps rejected all of the plans because they
required tunnels and locks to be built. De Lesseps prefered to build a sea level canal like the Suez
Canal. Wyse went back to the isthmus on December 6, 1877. He explored two routes in Panama,
one through Nicaragua and one through Panama. In the end he chose the Panamanian route, which
would be sea level. The route would follow the Panama Railroad and require a 7,720 meter long
tunnel through the Continental Divide at Culebra. He traveled to Bogota and the Colombian
government signed a treaty on March 20th, 1878 that granted rights to build the canal through
Panama, then part of Colombia. The treaty promised Colombia ownership of the canal after 99
years. It was estimated to take six years and $240 million. The digging started the first day of 1880

By March 1883, construction was behind schedule and 660,000 out the promised 5,000,000 cubic
meters have been excavated. After visiting Panama in 1886, De Lesseps claims construction will
be done by July 1889. Later that year, only a few feet out of hundreds have been removed from the
Culebra Cut. De Lesseps hired
Agatha Christie Dysgraphia
Agatha Christie Dysgraphia It was quite true and I knew and accepted it. It did not worry or
distress me. I was always resigned to being the slow one (ResearchGate). This is what Agatha
Christie said one day when she realized she had a very serious disease, now known as dysgraphia.
Christie s dysgraphiacaused her many challenges in her lifetime, but it never stopped her from being
an amazing, bestselling novelist. In the United States, anywhere from five to thirty three percent of
elementary children deal with some level of dysgraphia (Adam), a writingdisability. Other names
for dysgraphia include backwards writing, developmental output failure, and math disability
(Siegel). When a child has dysgraphia, there is a problem with the writing process; therefore, the
children have trouble writing (Richards 63). Some of the victims of dysgraphia have trouble
forming letters, while others can form letters but not very quickly (Paquette 88). It was once said,
As students struggle with the process, they become preoccupied and can t let their ideas flow
onto the page (89). Although there are many devices to help with the disease, there are very few
ways to overcome dysgraphia. One of the tools one can use to help a child with dysgraphia is
graphic organizers. Another tool someone can use is special education services in the school.
Most schools offer very good special education services which can help children with many
challenges, including dysgraphia (91). Other tools commonly used may include a spell checker
(93), word prediction software, and text to speech tools (259). Many teachers also suggest keeping
a list of commonly misspelled words and having a note taker. Teachers may also use oral tests
instead of written tests to eliminate stress (93). One can also use the checkbook programs companies
provide (259).
Dysgraphia is caused by an issue between two main brain systems (Paquette 89). Some of the
symptoms of dysgraphia may include cramped fingers, inconsistent formations and slants to letters,
unfinished cursive writing, decreased speed of writing, and poor organization on the page (Richards
63). There are five different kinds of dysgraphia. The first is known as motor dysgraphia, and
symptoms may
Government Involvement Of The Civil Aircraft
Government Involvement: The United States government does not actively help any companies
compete in world markets. However, legislature has indirectly helped civil aircraft manufacturers.
Many domestic civil aircraft manufactures are also large contributors to military aircraft production
and share resources between the two tasks. Personnel, facilities, and resources necessary for both
types of production are largely the same. Manufacturers often devote resources to civil aircraft
when military contracts are low in supply. Civil aircraft is one of the largest exporting industries of
the US and contributes a trade surplus. Therefore, it is in the best interests of the US to aid
companies that manufacture civil aircraft. US legislation in airlineregulation, airspace traffic control,
and safety monitoring are aimed to facilitate air transportation. These measures indirectly aid aircraft
manufacturers by increasing the popularity of commercial air travel and the demand for passenger
airliners. Government subsidies in defence manufactures that also manufacture civil aircraft, in air
transported mail, and in airports also either directly or indirectly aid aircraft manufacturers.
Occasionally, the US will directly subsidize research programs and production plants in civil
aerospacefirms. Boeings civil aircraft division is the winner of the most local and state subsidies. In
late 2013, Boeing was awarded an $8.7 billion tax break to build its 777X plane in the state of
Laissez Faire Vs. State Intervention
1800s: Laissez faire vs. State Intervention
What does, exactly, laissez faire mean? According to the Oxford dictionary, this French term means
literally allow to do , however, in nineteenth century Britain, this word was used to define a new
policy of non intervention in free market affairs by governments, in order to allow things to follow
their own course without any external help, as suggested from some of the most famous economists
of the era, as Adam Smith, his followers Thomas Robert Malthus and David Ricardo, or Samuel
Smiles.
These economists believed in a hands off approach of self help, as it can be seen from their
written works. For example, Samuel Smiles (1859) wrote: Even the best institutions can give a man
no active help. Perhaps, most they can do is, to leave him free to develop himself and improve his
individual condition. Basically, they strongly believed in the idea of the self made man , capable of
becoming successful by his own efforts. Anyhow, this belief that the interest of an individual would
have led, in the end, to benefits for both the economy and the society, as highlighted by Smith
(1776), strongly disagreed with the living conditions of the nineteenth century British society s
situation. In fact, even though this century brought various improvements to the world, with a
period of huge innovation known as Industrialisation , there was a huge gap between social classes,
given that any change was made available for poor people, that
Factors Affecting The Health And Social Care Services
The key factors that drive change in health and social care services are mostly known through
SWOT and PEST analysis. PEST is an acronym for political, economic, social and technology. PEST
analysis investigates the important factors that are affecting the industry and influencing the
companies operating in the health and social care. PEST analyses are external factors and when
legal and environment are added it becomes PESTLE analyses.
SWOT analyses at the other hand are internal factors. SWOT is an acronym for strength, weakness,
opportunity and threat. All the internal factors such as structure, skills, staff, systems, and shared
values need to be considered in the change. The above mentioned internal factors are really important
to the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUH).
Political factors including factors like government policies and legislation drive change in the health
and social care sector. The political factors are known to have influence on the structure of the
organization, the professional practice, the distribution of services and the quality of services. An
example of a recent government policy on the NHS, is the introduction of charges to overseas
patients introduced by the British government led by the Tory party. Which makes it illegal for the
NHS to see overseas patients free of charge.
Economic factors include the consumer expenditure and disposal of income; unemployment and
recruitment, labor cost, and funding of health and social care
Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease
Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease
Overview
In the words of Glick, Greenberg, and Ship (2008, p.368), stage 5 CKD, or GFR of 15cc/min,
reflects significantly reduced renal function, and this is the stage when patients will require long
term chronic dialysis treatments. Individuals with CKD stage 5 are said to have end stage renal
disease (ESRD) and it is also at this point that their kidneys experience complete (or almost
complete) failure. In basic terms, one of the key functions of the kidneys is the removal of excess
water and waste from the human body. When kidneys no longer work as they are expected to, their
ability to remove fluids as well as waste from the body is affected significantly. Some of the
common symptoms patients in this particular stage of chronic kidney disease could experience
include but they are not limited to increased skin pigmentation, muscle cramps, a feeling of
unexplained tiredness, nausea, loss of appetite, etc. It is important to note that the inability of
kidneys to get rid of fluids as well as waste from the human body eventually leads to the build up or
accumulation of toxins in the body. This is essentially what causes those suffering from stage 5
CKD to experience an overall or general ill feeling.
Treatment Options
Individuals diagnosed with stage 5 CKD may be required to work closely with a nephrologist so as
to come up with a plan best suited for them. On this front, there are several treatment options which
could be taken
The Symbolism Of Arnolfini s Wedding
Arnolfini s Marriage

Jan van Eyck was one of the greatest and most influential Flemish painters of altarpieces and
portraits of the 1400 s (Hayes). van Eyck s paintings often include objects with hidden symbolic
meaning. There are several different interpretations of the symbolic meaning concerning his portrait
of Giovanni Arnolfini and his second bride often referred to as The Arnolfini Marriage . Marriage
is a sacred union between man and woman. A wedding is one of the most important events in a
woman s life. Often a wedding occurs in the present of the wedding party, family members and
friends. During the 1400 s a wedding ceremony was performed in the privacy of the home. van Eyck
was hired to paint a portrait of this marriage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arnolfini and his bride are not wearing any shoes. This symbolizes the floor is considered holy
ground or the sanctity of marriage (Pioch). Some art historians claim the shoes do not have a
symbolic meaning. Dog were considered a symbol of devotion and love so often they were
included in portraits of a married couple. van Eyck painted the mirror as a reflection of the
witnesses present for the wedding. Which includes van Eyck s own tiny self portrait (Pioch). His
signature on the painting reads Jan van Eyck was present , this has been interpreted by some
historians as an indication that he served as a witness (Pioch).

If the Arnolfini s Marriage had taken place during the 1900 s it would have been very easy for an
artist to include every single detail of the wedding. Because the wedding took place during the
1400 s, all we can do is assume or use our best judgment to interpret the true meaning of each
symbol in the portrait. We can all at least agree van Eyck was the artist that painted this portrait.
Then again some historians say his brother Hubert was the artist. (Kren)

Akira Kurosawa s The Seven Samurai and John Sturges The Magnificent Seven

The 1954 movie The Seven Samurai, directed by Akira Kurosawa, and its 1960 remake The
Magnificent Seven, directed by John Sturges have many similarities; for example, the plot of both
movies entails farmers hiring mercenaries to help fend off bandits that annually pillage their farms.
The two movies also have differences like the characterization of the bandits in The Magnificent
Seven as opposed to The Seven Samurai.

One of the main similarities between the Seven Samurai and Magnificent Seven is the plot. In both
movies bandits annually pillage a small village and the farmers are left with barely enough food to
survive. In the Magnificent Seven Calvera and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Seven Samurai they come in contact with Katsushiro, a young and inexperienced samurai, and
Kikuchiyo, a samurai who has jumped castes. In Magnificent Seven Chico plays both of these roles,
a young inexperienced gunslinger who used to be a farmer. In both movies the main character finds
an old friend: Shichiroji (SS), Harry (MS), and a quiet, older and tremendously experienced samurai
/gunslinger: Kyuzo (SS), O Reilly (MS).

Once six mercenaries are acquired they set off to the village and Chico/Kikuchiyo follows behind
until the mercenaries decide to let him join. Once the mercenaries arrive, in both movies, all the
farmers are hiding because they think the samurai/gunslingers are just as bad as the bandits and they
hid all their women in fear that they would seduce them. As time progresses though the farmers
begin to trust the samurai/gunslingers and are trained how to fight. Unlike in The Seven Samurai the
bandits in The Magnificent Seven actually talked with the gunslingers and tried to persuade them to
join their group, but to no avail, and the battle was started. The fighting in both the movies is pretty
much the same with little battles occurring over a three day period until the final battle.

In Magnificent Seven one of the farmers, having doubts about winning, let the bandits in the village

The Pearl Parable
The title of the parable we read was The Pearl by John Steinbeck. This parable was about the story
of a family and what they go through when they acquire something valuable, when something bad
happens to their infant son, and the area they live in and what their life is like. John Steinbeck
meant for The Pearl to be a parable, not a story or a novel. This parable is a brief story in prose or
verse that illustrates a moral or religious lesson. The lesson in this parable is that Greed leads to
bad decisions and worse consequences. This lesson is shown in different ways. It is shown when
Kino decides he is going to try and take the pearl and sell it and when none of the offers are good
enough for him he decides to not sell it. Greed also makes him act violent toward his wife Juana
when before he had the pearl he wasn t violent toward her. Kino decides to get money and to try
and raise his social status through the pearl. Kino goes from a loving father and husband to being
violent towards his wife.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The character facing a moral dilemma, or making a questionable decision and suffering the
consequences in The Pearl is Kino. In the beginning of the book, Kino and his wife Juana are
happy living their life how they live it, in a hut by the sea, not having money or nice things. Once
Kino finds the pearl, he gets greedy. He changes into somebody who can buy whatever they want
because they have money. He starts to think he can do better things after he finds the pearl, like
take Coyotito to the doctor, get married, buy Juana new clothes, and buy himself new shoes. He
changes from a humble Kino who doesn t have money, to a greedy Kino who has something of
value and acts like
The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe
Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the society. People in
the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked to help them, but saw it as a
satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially acceptable for people to seek for advice or
help from witches, it was taboo for witches to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other
beliefs that went against the Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often
unable to receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the acts of
torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political turmoil, the Trial of
Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much concerned with the truth, but rather
convicted these women because of their marginalized role in society caused by social disposition.
Furthermore, it can be suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire about magic, the
law heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that Tempel Anneke displays
the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female figure that was perceived as a
burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke was a widower who lost her husband who
during the Thirty Years War and depended on her son s financial assistance. Furthermore, she was
informally trained by her mother as a naturopathic healer and used her healing skills to help cure
people and animals in her community by using herbs and other plants. Anneke had not been
accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for medicinal purposes on a regular basis
until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful magic she was accused of employing that led
to fear and resentment towards her. Lastly, society s perceptions of women during the time
furthered their inability to prove their innocence through a fair trial. It was a widely held belief
that women were of weak understanding, and are hence more likely to be ensnared by the lies and
illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). Society s prejudice towards women, especially elderly women
dependent on society, predetermined the fate of the women charged for witchcraft; the court of
