Questions 1-5
Track 1
1 What time does Greta have her tennis match?
A Mum, are you going to your chess course?
B Yes, it’s at quarter to three. Why?
A I’m playing tennis with Martha this afternoon. Could you give me a lift to the court before
your course? I need to be there by twenty past two.
B Oh, OK then, but let’s hurry up: it’s already ten to two!
2 What will Tom do next Tuesday?
A Have you been to the new swimming pool? It’s really cool! I went there on Saturday.
B Great! Why don’t we go there together next Tuesday afternoon, Tom?
A I’d love to but I have a guitar lesson on that day. If you want, we can go with Katie on
Thursday, if she doesn’t have her dance class?
B OK I’ll ask Katie, then.
                                                                                                      1
Ready for A2 Key for Schools

3 What did the girl do yesterday?
A Did you go to Mandy’s party yesterday?
B I wanted to, but I had a French test this morning so I had to study all afternoon. What did
         you do yesterday?
A I went to a restaurant with my family. We wanted to celebrate my grandma’s birthday.
B Great! How old is she?
A 70!
4 How’s the boy going home from the station tomorrow?
A I don’t know how to get home from the station tomorrow evening. The buses stop early.
B Isn’t your dad going to pick you up?
A Unfortunately, he’ll be at work, and my mother isn’t in town.
B Don’t worry. I’ll ask my brother: he’s having dinner with my aunt tomorrow. She lives near
the station. I’m sure he can meet you there and drive you home.
A Thanks, Emma.
5 What is the girl going to eat?
A Have you decided what you want? The chicken is very good.
B Mmm, I’d like to have something light. I’m playing volleyball this afternoon.
A How about fruit salad? I tried it yesterday for dessert and it tasted delicious.
B Actually, I don’t really like having sweet foods for lunch. I think I’ll try the fish soup.
A I’ll have chicken again.

Questions 6-10
Track 2
You will hear a teacher telling her students about a museum they are going to visit.
Good Morning, I’m going to tell you what you need to know for next Friday’s trip to the Egyptian
Museum. First of all, remember that students pay less than adults, so instead of the usual 8 pounds
you will only need to bring 5 pounds fifty; if your parents want to go too, they will have to pay the
full price.
You will go to the museum with the history teacher but he’s ill so you can’t give him the money. The
Maths teacher will collect it tomorrow at the end of her lesson.
The Museum opens at half past nine, but we’ll have to leave school and be at the bus station by
quarter past eight because the journey there is about 45 minutes. We won’t take the train because it
would take longer to get there.
The Museum has a café so you don’t need to bring food or drink. Remember that you can take
photos inside the museum so don’t leave your cameras at home.

Track 3
You will hear Frank talking about a holiday he had.
A Hi Frank, I hear you’ve just come back. How was your holiday?
                                                                                                         2
Ready for A2 Key for Schools
                                                                             Answer Key and Transcripts
B It was amazing! I’ve always loved going to the beach or visiting other countries in summer,
but the two weeks I spent in the mountains were absolutely brilliant.
A I’d love to go too. Is it far from here?
B No, actually it’s quite close, just half an hour by car. There’s a wonderful hotel with tennis
courts and an indoor swimming pool. I’m sure you would love it.
A Cool! Did you stay there?
B Unfortunately I couldn’t. It was fully booked; there was a nice campsite near the hotel but it
was too cold; anyway, my father’s best friend lives there, so we stayed there all the time.
A I’m really glad you had a great time… what was the weather like?
B It was mostly sunny and warm. I was afraid it would rain a lot: you now it may be a little
boring when it rains in the mountains. I hope next time we’ll stay longer. Two weeks isn’t
        enough!
A You mean you’re going there again next year?
B Actually, my parents told me they’d like to do something different next summer. They love
visiting foreign towns so we’ll see what to do before June.
A That’s the best thing to do. There’s still a lot of time before next summer.

Questions 16-20
Track 4
16 You will hear a boy and a girl talking about a teacher, Ms Thompson. What does she
        teach?
A So what do you think about Ms Thompson?
B I really like the way she explains things. I mean, we’ve already found out lots of interesting
things about the countries we’re studying this term and not just learning about the capital
cities. She also likes telling us about the history of these countries or what foods you can eat
        there.
A I suppose you’re right. Though I still prefer our Maths teacher’s lessons.
17 You will hear a girl talking about her favourite sport. What sport is it?
I love all winter sports. I tried skiing last winter and I really enjoyed it at first but then it got a bit
boring. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than snowboarding. Of course, you need to be fit and
it’s easier to get hurt. That’s why I always train at the gym for a month before I go to the mountains.
18 You will hear a boy talking with his mother. What does she want him to do?
A Hi, Mum, I’m back.
B Did you remember to take the books back to the library?
A Sure, and I’ve bought the drinks for tomorrow’s trip as well.
B OK, here’s what you need to make the sandwiches. I can’t do that as I have to work this
        afternoon.
A OK, see you later Mum.
19 You will hear a football coach talking to one of the players. When is the next match?
Henry, don’t forget that this week football practice is at quarter to five on Monday, not on Tuesday.
We’re playing against Gillford Junior High on Thursday at the same place where we played our last
game on Sunday. Don’t forget to bring our team’s new yellow T-shirts, of course.
20 You will hear two friends talking about what they will do tomorrow. What will the
        weather be like?
