Prom Dress Code
Last week, Whitehouse administration released a new prom dress code in order to dispel parents
and students confusion following last year s debacle, where over 25 female students were sent
home due to their dresses. A visual presentation of the dress has been posted on the district s
website with 24 slides displaying inappropriate attire for females, and 4 slides for males. The PTA
endorsed this code before it was issued to the students. However, upon seeing the new rules many
students have complained that it is too restrictive and conservative. The new dress codeseverely
limits the already limited options of dress for so many girls, additionally it is teaching these young
women that their bodies are overtly sexual, and must be covered
The Effect Of Photography On Forensic Science
Photography in forensic science is arguably an important factor to the forensic science world
especially when is used in court situations to carry out justice in court. Photography helps to aid
investigations provides the court room investigators with photos of victims, places and items in
detail involved in the crime.
The basics of photography is understanding how a camera works, a standard camera has very basic
components these are
A viewfinder
A focusing mechanism
A shutter
An aperture
A lens
The light proof camera body
Finally a variety of buttons/devices to control the settings

So the basics of how a camera works are as follows as the light enters the camera this will be
through the lens aperture. It is then reflected the image is recorded on to a light sensitive film that
is loaded within the camera. When looking at the individual components of the camera firstly is
the lens this is a curved piece of glass of which the light passes through to allow the light to enter
the camera then this is redirected to finally this comes together in order to form an image. The
aperture is located between the rear and front lens; the aperture refers to the size of the lens opening
this basically controls the amount of light that enters the camera, sometimes the aperture can be
known as the f stop or f number. The largest aperture is F 2 the smallest is F 22.
The shutter is the object that is covering the lens, and this is the feature that controls the
An Unwinnable War
As America find herself in today s War on Terrorism, one can easily find a number of similarities
between today s situation and the war in Vietnam. As the Taliban steadily loses control and power
over Afghanistan, it becomes exceedingly important to discuss potential replacement governments.
Afghanistan is, like Vietnamin the 50 s and 60 s, a very volatile country full of a variety of people
speaking different dialects and practicing different religions. It is very important, then, that the
government that is installed is one that is capable of maintaining some type of control or authority
over its diverse people. On July 7, 1954, Ngo Dinh Diemcame to power as the Prime Minister of
South Vietnam(Fishel 107). Diem was backed by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course the irony is that Diem took steps to prevent the 1956 unification election, which is
normally a prerequisite for a democracy (Starr 39). He did stage an election for himself, but it was
certainly rigged being that Saigon with roughly 405,000 registered voters, somehow cast 605,000
votes for Diem (Starr 39).
Diem was therefore determined to be the best man for the job of preventing communism in S.
Vietnam. One reason is most likely because he was Westernized being that he lived for some time
in the Mayknoll Seminaries in New Jersey and New York State (Genesis 116). He quickly gained
the approval of American Catholics such as Cardinal Spellman, which certified Diem as an
important anti Communist (Scheer 116). Some Americans were skeptical of Diem at the time, but
as Secretary John Foster Dulles simply stated, the United States could simply not find a better man
to carry out its designs and Diem is only means US sees to save South Vietnam and counteract
revolution. US sees no one else who can (Gettleman 133). This is, however, a little unsettling being
that it sounds as though the U.S. merely settled on Diem in lieu of a better candidate.
The American people then, perhaps influenced by the media, agreed with their government s
approval of Diem. In the June 29, 1959 edition of Newsweek, Diem was deemed one of the ablest
free Asian leaders and his government
Personal Accomplishment In Piano
My most cherished personal accomplishment was when I won the studio awards in piano. I was
awarded the studio award in piano, both for years 2014 and 2015. Indeed, this was important to
me because I had worked earnestly for it. To enumerate, my piano teacher only gave out only one
studio award in piano at the end of each school year. The winner of this award was the student who
she believed had accomplished the most at the pianothat year. The year of 2014 was the year that I
received my first studio award in piano. At the time, I had only been playing piano for two years.
Truthfully, I was surprised at my winning the studio award because though I may have improved in
my piano playing from the previous year, I did not think of myself as a top piano student. The reason

It was almost February, and that meant that the National Federation of Junior Festivals was just
around the corner. Truthfully, though I was a third year piano student and felt confident in my
piano playing, I was extremely nervous about playing a piece for the first time in the National
Federation of Junior Festivals. Yet, I ended up scoring an excellent on the National Federation of
Junior Festivals held in my area at Bob Jones University. As a result, I was inspired to take risks in
my music repertoire, and challenge myself. Thus, I took on the serious task of learning one of
Beethoven s most famous pieces: Fur Elise. When I brought this difficult piece of music to my
piano teacher to discuss the possibility of me learning it, she was a bit skeptical of my ability,
since I was only a third year piano student. Despite this doubt, she allowed me to attempt to play
this difficult, and dynamic piece of music. As I continued to practice this piece, I fell in love with
the energy and the beauty in the melody. In the end, I learned this piece of music by heart and was
able to play it with few
Labelling Theory Of Schizophrenia Essay
Schizophrenia is characterised by hallucinations, delusions, disorganised speech and behaviour, and
other symptoms that cause social or occupational dysfunction. these type of symptoms must have
been present for six months and have to include at least one month of active symptoms. DSM 5
raises the symptom threshold, requiring that an individual exhibit at least two of the specified
symptoms. For example, catatonia will be used as a specifier for schizophreniaand other psychotic
conditions such as schizoaffective disorder. This specifier can also be used in other disorder areas
such as bipolar disorders and major depressive disorder.

Foucalt s work, although different, supports Szasz s idea that mental illness is a myth. According to

The theory proposes that a stereotyped notion of mental disorder becomes learnt in early
childhood and is continually reaffirmed in ordinary social interaction and in the mass media.
Labelled deviants may be rewarded by doctors and others for conforming to this idea of how an ill
patient should behave and are systematically prevented from returning to the non deviant role
once the label has been applied. Labelling is seen as an important cause of ongoing residual
deviance. Being mentally ill is of course not the only way of being deviant in society. The
essential point of Scheff s theory is that the person recognised as mentally ill is the deviant for
which society does not provide an explicit label. Labelling someone as mentally ill is defined by
residual rule breaking. Labelling theory has been challenged for several reasons. These include
the relative neglect of primary deviance , the process of becoming deviant in the first place, and
the said lack of evidence for the idea of a self fulfilling prophecy or a career of deviancy. In
particular, Gove (1980) has suggested that the evidence for labelling theory is so overwhelmingly
negative that it should be
The Anna Karenina Principle
The Anna Karenina principle is important because it explains a feature of animal domestication that
had heavy consequences for human history. Specifically how suitable big wild mammals were never
domesticated and most domesticated animals are Eurasian. The Anna Karenina principle directly
applies to domesticating animals because to be domesticated, a species must possess many different
characteristics, as there must be many characteristics of happiness in the principle. Diamond states
that lack of any characteristic dooms efforts at domestication. The Anna Kareninaprinciple applies
directly to the domestication of animals, making it relevant in understanding why some wild animals
were not domesticated.
By comparing mutations, one can see that a crop was independently domesticated in separate areas.
This is suggested if a crop includes two or more alternative wild variants, or mutations. It is
suggested because if the same crop has many different variants, it inherited one particular mutation
from one area and the other mutation was inherited from a different area. This information is
important to tracing the spread of agriculture because it can suggest that a crop spread very quickly
to the surrounding area (one mutation), preventing the need of independently growing the crop
elsewhere. On the other hand, it can also suggest that a crop spread too slow to prevent its
independent domestication elsewhere.
Civilization led to epidemic because as people started to
After a Time and Stairway to Heaven
Poetry Essay

Thesis: Catherine Davis After a Time and Robert Plant s Stairway to Heaven performed by Led
Zepplin both focus on death and rebirth, the fact that no matter what we possess, we can t change
this.
First supporting point: After A Time establishes a deliberate dark, dismal tone, leading us to see that
eventually the healing will begin. In Davis s poem first

After a time, all losses are the same. One more thing lost is one thing less to lose;
And we go stripped at last the way we came. (First stanza)

Second supporting point: Davis uses figurative language to show the inevitability of death.

The sense of treachery the want, the blame

Goes in the end, whether or not we choose,
And we go stripped at last the way we came. (Fifth stanza)

Third supporting point: However, in the end, Davis shows us that no possessions and
accomplishments will keep us from death or loss. That we will have no lifes simplier things and that
these things brings joy far more than the material possessions can.

So we, who would go raging, will go tame When what we have can no longer use: After a time, all
losses are the same; And we go stripped at last the way we came. (Sixth Stanza)

Most of the times we take it for granted that there is always plenty of time.

Fourth supporting point: Robert Plant s Stairway to Heaven sees life as a mystical journey and a
spiritual quest, but one can not buy happiness on his or her way to heaven. If there s a bustle in your
The Economic And Social Structure Of Africa
In the past, research of Africa was not prioritized because it was believed that Africa had not
influenced society and that it was not worth studying. Recently, however, more and more people are
realizing the value of studying Africa. Studying different aspects of Africa help us understand
Africans, ourselves, and the world as a whole. One field of study that should recognize what there is
to learn from Africais economics.
Studying Africa gives us a better understanding of how economics influences social organization.
Economic activity changed throughout the history of Africa, and this has had a major impact on
how society was organized. By studying how the economic and social structures of Africa have
changed over time, we can better understand how our own economic structure influences our society.
Many Americans may have misconceptions about the economy of Africa, and studying the history
of Africa will help to correct these misconceptions. Also, studying how America has treated Africa
in the past will hopefully help us to care more about people who are different from us and help us
make better decisions in the future.
The first economic activities in Africa were hunting and gathering. Men hunted small and large
animals using spears and the bow and arrow. They used the animals for food as well as for tools
(Shillington 2012: 15 16). Historians believe that gathering was a very important aspect of the
prehistoric African economy. Most likely, women gathered
Comparing Two Movie Comparison Research Paper
Comparing and Contrasting Two Love Stories There are many differences between Pride and
Prejudice and Spirited Away. However, despite that both are made for two types of age groups and
each have a different plot, there are also many things that these two movies have in common. They
are love stories, but not necessarily romantic. In this essay I will compare and contrast two films by
pointing towards their different settings and lifestyles, explaining the similarities I found while
watching them, and Pride and Prejudice is a classic novelby Jane Austen. It is based around a
romantic setting. Unlike Spirited Away, it is completely focused around a girl and her loveinterests. It
also has an old, comfortable feeling to the movie s atmosphere.
The Three Creation Myths
Question One
The signs of miracles and or Magic discussed in the creation myths
Each of the creation myths reveals some form of supernatural power beyond human understanding.
One common magic that is common is creation from nothing . It is believed that a supreme deity
who existed from the beginning of time solely participated in creation. With the emptiness that
existed, the Supreme Being creates through uttering words or body secretions
(Pinsent, 18). He then organizes the world into the form that it exists presently. It is also a common
belief that the supreme deity has power to give life to human through his breath. As much as he
could engage in physical creation, he also shared the life in them to humans. Certain creatures are

Sumerian myth describes how the gods created black headed people and provided conducive
environment for animals that encouraged procreation. Inupiat myth brings out the importance of the
condemnation of evil and pursuit for peace. It also reveals the value for humans by ensuring that
they get what they need for survival. Good conduct is also emphasized to ensure that peace and
order is maintained. Negritos myth brings out the ideas that creation took place through thoughts or
dreaming. It is believed that a divine couple, Pedn and Manoid existed in the sun that later created
the Earth. First, nature is valued as the source of the universe and all life forms. Relations are valued
as it is the source of human life (Powell, 34).
Question Three
Nature of cultures
The Sumerian culture portrays the importance of animals as compared to human beings.
This was evident when the gods failed to inform people of the impending floods (Pinsent, 21).
The Inupiat culture inculcates good human conduct among humans to ensure peace and
sustainability. Evils and evil spirits are greatly condemned as they disrupt peace and order in
Nighthawks By Edward Hopper Meaning
Nighthawks
It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Similarly, through careful analysis of a
work of art it is possible for one to more deeply understand the ideas that the artist is attempting to
express. At first glance, Edward Hopper s painting Nighthawks may just appear to be a painting of a
normal diner. However, it is only through careful analysis that it is possible to see that the painting
actually excels in creating a feeling of darkness, while at the same time portraying the feelings of
both desire and mystery in the viewer.
After looking at the painting, it is possible to conclude that the artist is trying to portray a feeling a
desire through his work. Evidence that supports this observation can be found ... Show more content

It can be inferred that the man sitting alone does not want to be bothered based on the fact that he
is sitting farther away than everyone. This begs the question of why the lone man would not want
to be bothered. Similarly, the lone man is sitting with his back facing the viewer as opposed to
having his facial features visible to us like the rest of the people in the painting. This gives us no
indication of emotion that we can use to try and figure out how the lone man is feeling, which only
strengthens the sense of mystery that he gives the viewer. The arms of the lone man are also not
visible on the counter in front of him, suggesting that his hands may be cupped in front of his face
in deep contemplation. Consequently, this leads the reader to wonder what he is contemplating,
adding to the sense of mystery. Lastly, a sense of mystery is portrayed in the way that the waiter
seems to be staring directly at the lone man. Consequently, the sense of mystery is again
strengthened by the lack of information regarding why the waiter is doing
The Marriage Practices Of The Village Of Southwest China
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe the marriage practices of the village of Andaloor in India
and the Mosuo people of Southwest China, their perceptions of one another, my own personal
perceptions of these practices, and my attitude towards diversity. This paper provides background
information on the two different countries and also demonstrates my knowledge on the subject of
cultural differences in marriage in the two countries.

When a man decides he is ready to get married, both financially and mentally, he and his parents
confer with each other on their prospects for the bride. Most of the time, the spouses are chosen by
the parents, elders or a match maker. Numerous conditions by the groom and his parents and the
matching of horoscopes are contemplated before the completion of the match. (al Zu abi Jagdish,
2008)
When the woman who matches these requirements is found, the man goes to the woman s house
with some companions. If the man is satisfied with the girl and the background of her family, he
will tell his parents and relatives to go visit her for further investigation. If the groom s family is
satisfied with the woman s background and family, they will introduce the proposal and ask for a
horoscope of the woman. If the groom s family informs the bride s family that the horoscope
matches, the bride s family will now have their turn to intently observe the grooms family. The
bride s family also has the right to refuse the proposal if they find something displeasing about the
groom or his family. After the bridal party accepts the proposal a ceremony takes place at the
woman s residence. This function is an agreement between both sides of the wedding in front of
family elders. This party is when the date for engagement is settled. The engagement is a ceremony
where the couple tie their horoscopes together and takes place at the bride s house. The engagement
is where the wedding date is
Analysis Of Isaiah Berlin s Two Concepts Of Liberty
In Two Concepts of Liberty , Isaiah Berlin examines two different conceptions of freedom:
positive and negative liberty. He begins by discussing negative freedom, which he defines as the
area within which the subject ... is or should be left to do or be what he is able to do or be,
without interference by other persons (169). Under this definition, an individual is not free if he
is coerced by another individual from making a decision he or she would naturally make. When
discussing negative freedom, Berlin acknowledges that there is a fundamental level of freedom
that is necessary for personal development that should not be intruded on by others (174). He
contrasts this conception of negative freedom with positive freedom, which is concerned with
the source of control or interference that can determine someone to do, or be, this rather than that
(169). When discussing positive freedom, Berlin introduces the concept of the divided self,
where an individual has two selves, a higher, rational self and a lower, instinctual self (180).
Positive freedom focuses on the ability to develop the self mastery over the lower self and
appeals to the higher self. Berlin argues that the positive conception of liberty is flawed because
the concept of appealing to the higher self can be abused when the idea of a higher and lower self
is applied to a collective group or society (181). An authoritarian government can use the rhetoric of
appealing to an individual s or group s higher self to
Significance of Hajj to the Life Muslim Adherents
Analyse the significance of Hajj to the life Muslim adherents (15 marks)

The Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and ultimately reflects many core Muslim beliefs. Through
spiritual rebirth, the wearing of the Ihram garments, the acknowledgement of Allah s omnipotency
and the experience of following in Prophet Muhammad s footsteps, adherents through the Hajj are
able to reflect the Islamic beliefs of Jihad, Umma, Zakat, and forgiveness in their own lives. By this
Muslims are able to become more intimate with Allah and his will, and are also destined to an
afterlife in heaven by his side. Accordingly, those who do not complete the Hajj in their lifetime will
be sentenced to an afterlife in purgatory. These consequences reflect how ... Show more content on

These are very significant principles within Islam. Secondly, the use of the Ihram garments during
the Hajj also reflects core Islamic beliefs, particularly Umma. The white garments are worn by
everyone during the Hajj, resulting in it being impossible to differentiate a wealthy man from a
poorer one, or a sinful man from a cleaner one. This equality is synonymous with the idea of Umma,
the unity of the Islamic community as one religious body with similar views. Through the Hajj
adherents learn to live together and co operate in the name of Allah by also giving up certain mutual
activities such as sex. This unification and sacrifice further allows the adherent to become closer
with Allah and also reflects the Muslim way to live with one another especially during times like
Ramadan, where certain actions are haram. Furthermore, the following of Muhammad s steps as
an integral part of the Hajj acts as a guide for adherents to base their future lives upon. The Hajj
traces around the Saudi Arabia region, highlighting key components of the Prophet s life. This life
is one that evidently reflects all core Islamic values and teachings, and serves as the materialism of
Allah s will on Earth. Prayer, such as rak ah, Zakat, seen in the shaving of the head, and Jihad,
present in the physical struggle required, are all key values reflected in Muhammad s life, while
