The Hobbit And I Robot Comparison
The Hobbit and I, Robot are both incredibly popular books and their significance is quite apparent.
Within these books, we see distinct themes at play that try to convey deep messages that are
important to know. Though they aren t alike in many ways, they re noteworthy at the very least.
They differ in many more aspect, and that s okay. Differences bring new ideas and create
conclusions we never saw before.

Though not incredibly apparent from the start, The Hobbit and I, Robot share many similarities. It s
possible they are more different than alike, but that doesn t stop these books from having the
ability of being compared in some ways. For example, one of the most obvious comparisons can
be drawn from the good versus evil theme within The Hobbit and I, Robot. There s a clear team
we should root for, and a team we should loathe. Another way they re alike is the way each race is
loyal to their own. The elves would never betray one of their own and the same goes for the
humans in I, Robot. Throughout each book, we also see incidents of greed taking place in several
different ways. These three distinct examples provide context for how these seemingly completely ...

It s actually incredibly easy to see they re different in a multitude of ways. Their stories aren t
even in remotely the same areas, and with that, we see vast differences in those ways. While the
people in I, Robot display fear towards the robots, characters in The Hobbit show courage against
their foes. We see the robots follow a distinct order in I, Robot while some people in The Hobbit
take it upon themselves to conduct some cunning actions. Though, that all stems from the fact that
the robots are forced to behave in an orderly fashion because they re programmed that way, while
the characters in The Hobbit have the freedom to do as they
American Revolution
Ques Explain how and why slavery developed in the American colonies. Why couldn t colonists use
indentured servants as they had in the past?

Ans The study of labor in the United States has a tendency to lean towards a myopic analysis of the
battle between corporations and unions. Working class organization struggling against industrial
titans understandably dominates any modern labor discussion, but the sources of these conflicts in
the US are older than the nation itself. The labor system in Colonial America established the pattern
of labor exploitation witnessed and discussed continually throughout US history. Before the
formation of the United States, the European colonies in the Americas had an insatiable demand for

In the mid 17th century, indentured servitude became the method of choice for the poor to reach
Colonial America.

Ques How would you describe the differences between slaves and indentured servants?

Ans Indentured servants were individuals who agreed to work without pay for another person for
a set amount of time, often several years. Indentured servants by law were still free in that they had
basic civil rights. Often times debt, or desire for passage to America, would provoke people to this
kind of an agreement. After their time of service was concluded, indentured servants were free to
continue their lives. In real life, the distinction between slavery and indentured servitude often
blurred. Some people treated their servants as basically slaves, beating and threating them, forcing
them to work long hours and perform backbreaking work. Others held up their contract admirably
and treated their servants well.

By contrast, slavery was the formal ownership of persons by an individual. Enslaved people had
no rights and were considered their owner s property, rather than human beings. They could
therefore be killed legally, for no reason whatsoever, or abused however their master saw fit. Slaves
were basically slaves for life, unless their master saw fit to free them (if this was even legal, in
various times and places it was not).

Ques During the 1760s and early 1770s, the English Parliament took a number of actions that
angered the colonialists.
Rethinking Normal By Katie Rain Hill
Rethinking Normal is a coming of age story about transcending physical appearances and
redefining the parameters of normalcy to embody one s true self. Katie Rain Hill memoir on her
transition discussed what normal is and how she came to understand that normalcy was
completely based on what each person individually makes of it. The title of this book is the
perfect description of Katie s struggle in accepting herself despite the opinions of others.
Rethinking Normal is a symbol of transitioning and accepting your true self as normal despite
contradictions from peers, doctors, parents and society. It encompasses the struggles of
transgenders and any person who isn t conventional in rediscovering their true selves. Rethinking
Normal is the perfect way to describe the author s development of redefining and recreating
herself despite the pressure of others to be normal, as well as Katie s personal struggle in finding
her true self while discovering that normalcy should be based on how people feel about themselves
rather than how others perceptions. The most important thing is she made me feel normal, made me
feel that despite being trans, I was just like everybody else. pg 125... Show more content on

This book explores the reader to rethink their opinions on social and physical normality. The title
suggests that normality shouldn t be defined so critically and that those of diversity and
marginalization should be included. In this instance, the focus is upon the normalcy of those who
are transgender. One image of us that went viral showed us standing in our bathing suits with the
caption: Does this couple look normal? Because they are. The intention of the caption may have
been good, but what did it even mean by normal? That we passed as cisgender? Were
heterosexual?? White? Able bodied? Attractive? If one of us hadn t been any of those things, would
they still have called us normal? pg

mammals have held a residency on this Earth for millions of years with ancestors dating back to
prehistoric times. They are not only a part of our history, but also a part of myth and legends that
have been told throughout generations and various cultures. There are three major groups of
marine mammals found around the world. Marine mammals include at least 117 species within the
orders Carnivora, Sirenia, and Cetacea (Thurman, 2014). Today, these often gentle and intelligent
creatures are faced with many obstacles and challenges to survive and adapt. While adaptation has
been a natural process for all species through time and evolution, these sea creatures are being
forced to adapt at a faster rate in the last century. This has been largely due to an increase of human
fishing, ocean pollution, and climate change. Sadly, for some, these adjustments in their natural
environment are creating changes faster than they can evolve or survive. Figure 1 Evolution Sea
mammals have evolved from land animals to marine animals from their former land ancestors
going back as far as the Paleocene Age which occurred 65 million years ago. The earliest

The Power Amongst The Noh Theatre
The word Noh is derived from the Sino Japanese word for skill or talent , which is exactly what
theatre brings to an audience, whether it is a show off of Broadway that everyone knows and
loves, or a local high school production of a new play or a world premiere no one has ever heard
of. The Noh plays of Japan have been compared to the greatest of Greek tragedies for their
meaningful, powerful poetry and splendidness of emotional intensity. The NohTheatre is a major
form of classical Japanese musical dramathat has been performed since the mid 14th century.
Stemming from the popular entertainments in Nara during the Heian period (794 1185), in
conjunction with various ritual offering dances, Noh was created during the latter half of the
Kamakura period (1185 1333) and the early part of the Muromachi period 1336 1573 (Introducing
the World of Noh). This old tradition of theatre is still relevant and can still be performed today.
But what really brings towards the power amongst the Noh Theatre? Is it the costuming and the
masks that the performers would often wear? Is it the design of the set and the plot of the story that
makes plays so intriguing? Is it the sounds of the musical instruments played on stage along with a
chorus or underlying vocals to back things up? With all of this power from the Noh theatre, there
must be a key aspect that keeps everything held together without the famous Japanese theatre from
falling apart and what makes the theatre feel so real.
The Defense Of Marriage Act ( Doma )
In defense of marriage by John Corny, President Bill Clinton and the government were able to
approve the defense of marriage act (DOMA). DOMA is defined as the union of a man and a
woman which it was what mostly of the people consider to be right. The main question is if people
should continue this or change? The answer is that many activists have been trying to change that
definition. This changes has already begun in many states of the country , and those who supported
DOMA long time ago, are not able to support marriagetoday. There is one thing that has never
become different, it is how people think a kid is best raised by a woman and a man. However, today
marriage appears to be in a general agreement that is being complicated.... Show more content on

Laws afford protection and equality to personal choices relating to marriage, barrier methods for
pregnancy, reproduction, family relationship, child care, and guidance. Homosexual people may
see self determination on these aspects, just as straight people do. It doesn t take an expert or the
government to be involved to understand the definition of these words. The authority and the court
specialists approve any circumstance. Authorized academics are widely unfavorably opponents.
The most outstanding constitutional specialists on this matter are Cass Sunstein, Erwin
Chemerinksky, and William Eskridge They estimate that DOMA or other long established
marriage laws across the states will be unwelcome and unenforceable as not in accordance with
the constitution. In addition, the actions of disapproving and eliminating long established
marriage laws national has already started. A spokesperson of the Lambda legal corporation
which want to stop traditional marriage laws across the states, clearly expressed that they won t
give up until the same sex or gender marriage come across the entire nation. Many other democrats
like John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, and former presidential candidates Howard
Dean and Carol Moseley Braun , all of them have refused DOMA as not in accordance with the
constitution or with the rules and want DOMA to be disproved or refuted by the judicature and with

Argumentative Essay On Energy Use
The United States is known for its excessive use of energy. I remember in class, SOME of our
classmates that were from other countries, were shocked at how much energy we use and waste.
This is a clear indication of the US s attitude towards energy use, which is that we take it for granted.
When I went to Ukraine, I remember how limited energyuse was. I was only around 10 or 11 and I
was shocked that nobody turned their porch lights on at night and I was even more so shocked to
find out that most people didn t even have a porch light. I understand that the porch light here in
America is used as a deterrent for robberies, people feel safer if their lights are on. Another thing
is how people drive for fun, I ve heard friends of mine just aimlessly driving around because they
are bored and have nothing to do and even that was a surprise for me. We need to somehow create
a more efficient way of consuming energy. Sometimes using less energy may not be the answer to
using less, for example our houses need to be heated but many aren t well built and insulated.
When my family and I moved into our current house about 15 years ago, we noticed that the
insulation had not been changed for about 60 years and my father decided to reinsulate the house.
The next winter after re insulation, our energy use was almost a quarter of what we used last winter.
This is indeed an extreme example, due to the poor construction of our house, and I believe that not
every house is made that way, but it
The Reign Of King Louis XIV Of France
Louis XIV of France, born in September 5, 1638, became the king when he was only four years
old, after his father s death. He ruled for 72 years and died on September 1, 1715, so he lived
longer than any other European ruler. During his reign, Louis transformed the monarchy, marked
a new golden age of arts and literature, and made his country the most powerful on the continent
until the War of the Spanish. In 1648, a civil war known as The Fronde , began and the royal
family had to leave Paris. Louis chief minister could stop the revolt in 1652 and by the end of the
decade, he restored order and made a peace treaty with Spain, making France a powerful European
leader. The Fronde resulted in Louis fear of rebellion, which he never could get
Shirley Chisholm Equal Rights Speech
Shirley Chisholm was the first African American congresswoman elect to the House of
Representatives on May 21, the year 1969. As an African American lady, the discourse she
presented in 1969 to the United States House of Representatives at Washington D.C., was Centered
on evidence, and reinforced by values and experience. Furthermore, her Equal Rights for Women
speech was exceptionally influential. Her core dispute however, was on how the subject of sex
segregation in the workforce, was predominant and unfair. Moreover, the reason why she put forth
the argument in front of the House of Representatives, was to seek for change (freeman 23). As one
of her core focuses regarding equal rights for women, she speaks of the victimization against... Show

For that reason, they would employ men or ladies if competing for the same occupation
(Berkeley 32)). To conclude, as she provided a way out, and clarified what equal rights would
look like and what an adjustment would do. Once more, she utilizes antithesis to reinforce her
conclusion, ethical appeal, provide reasoning, and in making her recommendation of a policy
complete. David Farber s in his book The Age of Great Dreams, the realm of women in America
was restricted every aspect, from domestic life to the workplace. Women were anticipated to tail
one path (Farber 62). That was, to get married in her 20s, have a family rapidly, and commit her
life to domestic chores. As one woman at the time pointed out, women did not really anticipate
much from life. That was because she was there as a keeper to both her husband and her children.
Therefore, spouses held full responsibilities of child care and housekeeping thus, spending up to
50 hours a week on home errands. They were legitimately subjects to their spouses thru head and
ace edicts, and lawful they were not entitled to any of their husbands finances or property, beside
a constrained ideal to appropriate support. Husbands, on the contrary, were allowed to keep an eye
on their wives income and property. If in any case the marriage failed, a break up was hard to
acquire, as no fault separation was impossible, hence, coercing women to demonstrate wrongdoing
with respect to their partners in order to get a divorce.
Sublime In Gothic Literature
Gothic literature, which developed during the 17th century, was based on the surreal. When the
Gothic literature started, it was apparently more about supernatural and horror, but it was depicted in
such manner that it was amusing and terrifying at the same time. Therefore, the concept of sublime
emerged, which was actually finding harmony in chaos and pleasure in horror. For instance, the
gothic literature, gave birth to characters like Dracula, which were beyond death and which were
intriguing, not like classical villains from medieval era. The changes, decline of religion and rise of
state, also shaped gothic literature and provided motifs, which continue to occur. However, in late
18th century, the age of rationalism, gothic literature
White Collar vs Blue Collar
Imagine there is a society, and in this society there are only two households, one of them is a
white collar family, the other is a blue collar or working class family. To keep it simple, white
collar workers are highly skilled and usually work in an office setting, while blue collar workers
perform more labor based jobs and get their hands dirty. Now you may ask, what do these two
groups have to do with each other? Well, their differences are what bring them together, and neither
group would be able to operate without the other. Personally, I grew up and still live in a white
collar familyand this alone has shaped my household environment. I would also imagine growing
up in the other class would have an impact on your household environment as well. Although these
two households are quite different from each other, they still impact one another and society today
wouldn t be the same without either of them. If someone were to talk about a home , there could
be a number of things that could come to mind. When I personally think of home I think of a place
of peace and acceptance that you share with the ones you love. No matter what your definition of
home is, everyone grows up in a different home environment. I first lived in Farmington, Minnesota
but eventually moved to Prescott, Wisconsin in fourth grade. One of the things that I think has
effected my very own home environment is the fact that my dad has a white collar job. My dad is a
certified public accountant and
Advantages Of Effective Altruism

Assignment 2
Howwouldyou characterize effective altruism? Are there good reasons to support this view?
I characterize effective altruism as planning and strategizing on how to do good for the world.
This can be done through a career, political advocacy, or charitable giving. This contrasts with
how people usually do good acts for the world, which, according to Matthews, is donating to a
charity whenever we feel like it, many times on a whim to make ourselves feel good, but not doing
it as a calculated measure to move towards solving a problem. They do not take the time to research
the data and develop a strategy to solve the problem.
There are good reasons to support effective altruism. It is a very strong viewpoint that can save lives
because of how strategic and focused it is. For example, GiveWell is a charity that is considered
the origin of effective altruism. It uses evidence with philanthropy instead of just donating to feel
good. They have been forward thinking on factory farming which means that they were serious
about animal suffering without doing sappy, emotional guilty PETA style work (Matthews). As a
result, their thinking has helped to save lives. Nick Cooney, who is the director of education for
Mercy for Animals, said that corporate campaigns for better treatment of farm animals could be
effective (Matthews). The Humane League managed to convince corporate food service
companies, which are the ones that source cafeterias, food courts, and other similar places, to never
use eggs from chickens that were in tortured in cages. This effective altruistic move helped to save
5 million animal lives in a year and it only cost less than 2 cents per animal.
This also helped Walmart and Starbucks to stop using pigs from farms that use gestation crates.
This makes it very difficult for pregnant pigs to walk around, and this only cost 5 cents for each
animal spared the total was 18 million. In total, the Humane Society of the United States saved 40
million animals at 40 cents each.
Effective altruism is a very powerful movement that can change philanthropy and be a model for
rigorous, organized advocacy.

Plaintiffs contend the forum selection clause limits them to Virginia state court, where a class action
remedy would be unavailable to them; this, they contend, violates California public policy favoring
consumer class actions and renders the forum selection clause unenforceable. (Doe 1 v AOL LLC,

Under a decision of the United States Supreme Court, a forum selection clause is un enforceable if
enforcement would contravene a strong public policy of the forum in which suit is brought.
California courts have declared in other cases that the AOL clause contravenes a strong public
policy. If the court applies the doctrine of stare decisis, will it dismiss the suit? (Cross,
