Strategies For Spanish-Speaking English Language Learners
Area of Focus

The area of focus for the Action Research Project at Nieman Elementary will be to improve students
reading comprehension for Spanish speaking English Language Learners through the use of advance
organizers through reading instruction in English and Spanish. I would implement expository
advance organizers, narrative advance organizers, skimming as a form of advance organizer, and
graphic advance organizers as explicit comprehension instruction to help further student
understanding of a concept by activating higher levels of thinking.

The Use of Advanced Organizers to Improve Reading Comprehension Among Spanish Speaking
English Language Learners
Statement of Purpose and Questions

Children begin from an early point to understand that comprehension is the point of reading.
Comprehension is the intentional thinking process that occurs as we read. Readers should be
purposeful and active. They should use a wide variety of strategies, often simultaneously, to create
meaning from text. As mentioned, comprehension strategies and explicit comprehension instruction
are often omitted from reading instruction. When students are taught a set of comprehension skills,
they will be able to become better independent readers. For students whose home language is
Spanish, small group instruction in their home language and Academic English will allow them to
transfer their comprehension skills so they can find the meaning of their reading. The first aim of
this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of purposeful reading comprehension instruction. The
second aim of this study is to use the comprehension strategies during English instruction and
Spanish instruction so students will be able to independently apply those meta cognition skills that
will result in improved reading comprehension
Romero Reflection
In the movie, Romero, the wealthy government takes total control of the mostly poor population of
El Salvador. Fights break out between government and the townspeople, which leads to shootings,
kidnappings, and mass murders. In this movie, the seven principles of Catholic social teaching are
violated. The government of El Salvador is not aware of how God intended us to follow his rules,
and does not value the Church teachings. However, the archbishop, Romero, sticks up for the poor
and tries to help the government see that they weren t handling things properly. People from the
government end up killing Romero while he was saying a mass, which even further demonstrates
the violent and selfish government. The three Catholic social teachings of option of the poor and
vulnerable, solidarity, and rights and responsibilities are shown to be ignored and disrespected in
this movie. The government s job is to protect and serve its citizens, which the government has
ignored in El Salvador.
In this movie, people are criticized and abused for supporting the poor. As the Catholic Church
teaches us, the option for the poor and vulnerable is one of the social teachings that we must
respect and value. However, this film shows people being killed for helping the poor. One girl has
her tongue cut out of her mouth for trying to help the lower class people. The poor people did not
have rights, and were not treated with dignity. This movie teaches us that we shouldn t be shaming
the poor and
Digital Communication And Electronic Data
Introduction Backing up digital communication and electronic data especially e mails is a very
important IT practice to insure against loss of data. The main reason for backup of e mails is
restore emails whenever required. There have been a lot of cases in the past where emails have
been deleted accidently or intentionally which has created problems in day to day working.
Deletion of emails have hindered court cases and delayed judgement in the past. Cases like
Zubulake v. UBS Warburg have been decided by adverse inference which is nothing but failure of
defendant to provide proof to defend themselves. The Policy presents a mandate for Universities
and colleges in a state to contract a licensed third party who is not bias to archive all the emails.
Unbiased Email archiving is important as more and more lawsuit are being filed and the
defendants are unable to submit any emails to prove themselves innocent. Some of the cases are
Zubulake v. UBS Warburg. [1], and FiTeq Inc. v. Venture Corp. [2] Siani v. State University of
New York at Farmingdale, 2010 WL 3170664 (E.D.N.Y. Aug. 10, 2010)[3] is a case where the
plaintiff Dominic Saini filed a case of violation of Age discrimination in Employment Act and
claimed an adverse inference in march 2010 that the defended State University of New York at
Farmingdale were unable to implement and effectively carryout litigation hold which resulted in
spoliation of electronic records. The judge acknowledged that the defendants were

How did the Manchurian Crisis and its results affect militarism in Japan?

Part A: Plan of Investigation

Through early 1930 s Japan was facing difficult economic times and conflict pertaining to the rights
that they believed were rightfully theirs. On The night of September 18, 1931 the Manchurian crisis
(Mukden Incident) took place. An explosion destroyed part of the Southern Manchurian railway
which was owned by the Japanese. After this incident Japan started to began to lean into militarism.
This event was a huge turning point for the country of japan as a whole. To what extent did the
Manchurian Crisis affect militarism in Japan. This will be investigated through the analysis of the

Also, since he wasn t actually in Japan he could not have fully understood the effects of the
incident he would know some details but he would only be able to infer the others. However, he
was still alive at the time of the events. He is a reliable source for outside information because even
though he was not inside of the country he was able to see some of the effects of the Manchurian
crisis

Takehiko Yoshihashi, Conspiracy at Mukden: The Rise of the Japanese Military (New Haven, CT:
Yale University Press, 1963), http://www.questiaschool.com/read/10815611.

This book was written by Takehiko Yoshihashi in 1963. It was written in order the conspiracy
behind the Manchurian Crisis and to show what the Japanese did in order to take over Manchuria.
Since this book was written in 1963 it is not a direct account of the events. He was not their to
experience the actual event of the incident. This is however reliable because the author uses specific
information from the time using accounts from people of that time and using information from other
authors.

Part D:

During the early 1930 s Japan was growing through difficult times in their economy and their
relationships with their neighboring countries. Japan was weakened by these issues and blamed
China for a lot of it. They need to find away to regain power in Asia and the used the Manchurian
Crisis to do it. The Manchurian Crisis affect militarization in
Ron Mueck Art Analysis
Ron Mueck. Wildman . A pale, tall figure looms over all who are in its presence, overwhelming
and shockingly real. The Giant, Wildman , a huge modal of a man, is nude, this nakedness,
displayed for all to see. This ultimate exposure is a symbol to modern culture as one of ultimate
indecency and of vulnerability. He sits on a simple, sturdy wooden stool. His pose is rigid, his
knuckles are tightened and white as he grips his seat, his eyes are wide with fear, accusing the
society that has placed him on this pedestal. Upon his head, a thick mane of curly hair sits,
entwining with his bush like un kept beard with greying strands throughout, reaching past his
shoulders and ending midway down his chest. The majority of his body... Show more content on

His legs are brought up to chest height, one leans against the wall with the rest of the right side of
his body. His head rests on a closed hand, disappearing behind the head and concealing the right
ear. The elbow is supported by the right knee of one of his folded legs. His other hand rests in the
crook of the right arm, the elbow of this arm, supported by the left knee. His round stomach is
gently indented by the thighs that are pressed against it, his navel protrudes from the smoothness
of the surrounding belly. Between the stomach and private area is a shadowed fold where the
belly meets the lower body. The toes of his large feet are slightly bent inward, with only the largest
toes remaining flat against the ground. His skin tone is pale, with slight pink discoloration in the
usual places, such as the area underneath the nose, natural blush of the cheeks and ears. The added
freckles and more slight facial discolorations create a perfected reality simulation. His eyes, partly
shadowed by the overhanging brow are turned to the left drawn to something in the distance. His
face is creased with the lines of age, more heavily indented around the main facial features, then
fading into thinner lines as they move away from them. Upon his face is a complicated expression,
one which be interpreted as frustration or anger, for the brow is slightly furrowed and one side his
mouth is upturned with the impression of the hand that supports the face. Alternatively the
Should Gun Laws Provide More Safety In Schools
Should gun laws get changed and schools provide more safety for their kids? My topic is
important because I think if people would read this and listen to what I have to say about why
there should be stricter gun laws and schools should provide more safety for kids that there would
be a change in some things. First off I will explain why schools should have more protection. One
thing that could change is if we had security at the doors of school. I know having security might
cost a lot but there are retired vets out there that would probably do it for free if it means to keep our
kids safe.

Why do we need stricter gun laws and for schools to provide more safety for their kids? Why we
need stricter gun laws is because guns are getting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My opinion on some gun laws is that they need to be changed. In Indiana there is no license
required to carry a rifle or shot gun which is pretty dumb in my opinion. I think you should have
to have a license to carry it and a license for hunting. If your not a hunter or a police officer or
someone who works in like the police force you should not be able to have any big guns like that.
I also feel like you should be 21 before you can get a gun like that. In the article Indiana gun laws:
What you need to know states that there is a red flag law and only 5 states California, Connecticut,
Oregon, Washington and Indiana use it. The law is meant to temporary strict someone s access to
guns en they re a danger to themselves or others. All states should have the red flag law, then maybe
just maybe these people who are out here that harm themselves will get their guns taken until they

William Carlos Williams s Poem Marriage
Poems are the best to express thoughts to readers, many writers choose to write poems to speak
their feelings which plain ordinary texts will not do. Three poems have special ideas about
marriage, they are: Marriage by William Carlos Williams, Marriea Love by Kuan Tao Sheng, and an
untitled one by Apache Song. All three of them have a central idea of marriage; two people are one
individual after marriage, one cannot separate from the other one. These poems are short but they
carry deep morals about marriage. They have a common characteristics where they all visualize the
bonding between the couple into things we feel comfortable about. There are three main aspects of
poems content, structure, and tone I would discuss about how the authors uses similar writing styles
to bring out the common idea behind. All contents of the three poems are very visual. In Marriage,
Williams describes men and women as streams and fields and in Marriea Love, Kuan describes them
as clays. Similarly, Song describes the relationship between married couples as solutions to
problem, like, shelter for rain and warmth for coldness. Visualizing helps reader to understand the
author s point of view on marriage. We can see that all three of them implies that, after a couple is
married they become one individual and should not and cannot be separated. Marriage says that
men and women as streams and fields. We often see them appear very closely and one another
cannot be absent. He
Epiphary In Katherine Mansfield s The Garden Party
There are many reasons behind an author s story. Mainly it is to portray a message, give a good
laugh, or explain a purpose, but the author will get their point across to their readers. In Katherine
Mansfield s, The Garden Party, she focuses on a young, upperclass girl, with the name of Laura
Sheridan. During the story, the Sheridan family is preparing to host a very lively garden party.
Unfortunately for the circumstance, there has been a death in their community. The Scott family,
who is of the middle class, had just lost their husband and their father. The wake for Mr. Scott just
so happens to be during the time of the garden party. The separation of classes causes an
unsettling act of sympathy from Laura. She can not decide whether to be on the right side or the
wrong side of the situation. The death of Mr. Scott allows Laura Sheridan to experience an
epiphany, as she encounters the difference s between the upper and middle classes, life and death,
and a new perspective of life. Many people are often judged by their appearances, living
arrangements, or income status. That is how the world views and classifies people to place them in a
hierarchical stature.
There were a few middle class workers hired to set up a marquee at the Sheridan house. Since
Laura was considered to be the artistic one (EastoftheWeb 2) of her siblings, she was chosen to
conduct the hired workers on where to set up the marquee. During her time as supervisor, she
overhears a tragic story one of
