The Role Of Alexander Kerensky In The February Revolution...
The year 1917 was a historic year in Russian history. It saw two revolutions, in February and in
October. The February Revolution resulted in the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II and the suppression
of the Romanov monarchy. In October, the Bolshevik Party took over the reins of government in the
October Revolution, establishing the world s first socialist state. There has been an intense debate
regarding the role of key individuals Alexander Kerensky and Vladimir Leninin the events of 1917,
and the role of other factors, such as the economy, the First World War and public opinion. I believe
that Kerensky was more significant in this year because of his failures and his mistakes. It could be
argued that Kerensky acted as a catalyst towards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His response was to arrest the leading Bolsheviks, however some went into exile just as Lenin did
as he escaped to Finland. In further retaliation, Kerensky appointed General Kornilov as head of the
army with the task of suppressing the left. Kornilov decided that it was time to deal with the
revolutionaries and to establish a strong government in Russia. Also Kornilov wanted the Tsar back
in power which contradicted what Kerensky wanted. Therefore it leads me to believe that this
was poor judgement by Kerensky and it shows how he was indirectly linked to him. Kornilov
ordered the Cossacks to march on Petrograd. Kerensky panicked and asked the Bolsheviks for
help. The Bolsheviks agreed and so Kerensky armed the Bolshevik red guards with rifles.
However, Kornilov s troops never arrived in Petrograd as the railway workers stopped the trains
so the Cossacks couldn t get to Petrograd. It is quite impossible for me to betray Russia into the
hands of her ancient enemy, the German race, and to turn the Russian people into German slaves.
Here, Kornilov described Russia s contribution in worldWar I as anobligation to prevent the Russian
people from being confined by Germany. Although the Cossacks couldn t get to Petrograd, the red
guards kept the rifles which were given to them by Kerensky and they would later be used in the
October revolution. Consequently, it is clear that Kerensky had a key role in 1917, holding
important government positions and ultimately losing the support of both the left and the right,
allowing the Bolsheviks to take power. Not only was Kerensky s lack of knowledge of the
ideologies Kornilov had his failure, but also the fact that he armed the opposition. From the point
Kerensky armed the red guards it was inevitable that a different leader would emerge, either
Kornilov or
Machiavelli s Influence On Religion
Religion was arguably the most influential factor that contributed to political, social, cultural and
intellectual changes during the Middle Ages. The Catholic Church became a powerhouse since the
Holy Roman Empire made it it s state church. It s power grew since then, but during the Renaissance,
individuals began to doubt dispute the Church s authority and sources. Movements such as
Renaissance Humanism, Scientific revolution, and the Protestant reformation, influenced individuals
to publish written works. By supporting intellectuals in their studies and committing some
controversial actions, the Catholic Churchinadvertently created an environment where individuals
could criticize and question the church s authority.
One way the Catholic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the Catholic Church s foundation is confessing to a priest one s sins in order for God to
pardon the sins. The Church had been known for their questionable methods of pardoning sins,
such as Pope Urban II s speech in 1095 stating how individuals would be pardoned for their sins if
they took part in the Crusades. During the 16th century, reformers began to complain for the
selling of indulgences, which were pardoners selling pardons in order for individuals to not go to
purgatory. At times the indulgences were not sold for the buyer, but for a relative of a buyer in
order for the relative s time in purgatory to be minimized. One example is Pope Leo X and how he
commissioned Johann Tetzel to sell indulgences. The Church not only committed corrupted acts, but
also, according to Martin Luther, demanded an excessive amount of services from their

Usage of normal distribution in AFL
The Australian Football League (AFL) is a multi million dollar sports industry consisting of 18
teams that are spread over five states of Australia. In this section, two data sets containing the weight
and height of all the players in the 18 AFL teams was analysed to determine whether using normal
distribution to describe them is suitable.
As discussed in the previous section, a normal distribution has particular characteristics it conforms
to. i.e. It has most of its data concentrated near the centre of the distribution The distribution is
symmetrical around its mean Has a bell shaped curve The mean, mode and median of the data set is
the same Follows the empirical rule

Since in a normal distribution, the curve is symmetrical, skewness can affect the accuracy to which
normal distribution can be applied to a data set. To determine how close the distribution of the
weight of the AFL population is to being normal, the degree of skewness was found as a large
degree of skewness would reduce the practicality of applying normal distribution to the data set.
To find the coefficient of skewness (a measure of the degree of skewness), the mean, mode and
standard deviation was needed. Due to the large data size, a computer program was used to obtain
the necessary information. The data set was inserted into the program (One Variable Analysis by
Haese and Harris Publications) which then analysed it and produce the required result. The
information collected is displayed below with the result for the mean rounded to 87 from 86.964
and the standard deviation to 8.2 from 8.2375. This was done for convenience however it did reduce

Extreme Human Emotions are the Sole Product of Biological...
It has been claimed that human emotions are the sole product of biological functioning. The James
Lange Theory of Emotion (1884) proposes that there are three components of emotions which can be
attributed to the automatic nervous system (ANS). The three components are Cognition (appraisal
of the event), Action (Fight or flight) and Feeling (Aspect of the emotion). Here we see that a
biological attribution of emotion has been in place since the 1800s and has been common
knowledge for some time. This essay will assess and examine evidence that has been provided to
support the idea that emotions are the product of biology.

Certain areas of the brain have been identified when studying fear. The amygdala is involved in
processing emotions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emotional Memory also exists which isn t conscious (Claparede, 1911). When studying patients with
amnesia, it was found Claparede would introduce himself to a patient every day and she would not
remember ever meeting him previously. He began to hold a pin when shaking hands with her which
would cause her pain. Although the woman could not remember the man each day, she began to
refuse to shake his hand due to fear of being hurt. This showed that the patient could not form new
memories but the brain can ensure that the systems related to fear can override cognitive processing
when encountering a threat.
As we can see, the brain plays a strong role in producing fear responses. Additionally, there are
physical indicators of fear too. The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the fight or flight
affect producing increased heart rate and breathing. This in turn produces behavioural and
psychological responses such as feeling fearful and changes in facial expression. These biological
responses are caused by information within the brain which strongly suggests that fear is a product
of biological functioning.

Another important human emotion to look at is anger which is essential for communication and
responding to threats. Deffenberger (2002) defines anger as coping resources that are available to
the individual. When studying the brain, the amygdala is active in related to anger. Dopamine and
adrenaline are

How Did The Shang Dynasty Influence Early Chinese Society
Early Chinese society was ruled by different dynasties. The dynastic rule was an important part of
the culture and its development. The rule was passed on from father to son, making the dynasty
ruled by a family. Xia Dynasty The Xia dynasty was the first historically known dynasty. It ruled
China from 2200 1750 B.C.E. by Yu and his son (Judge and Langdon, 2016).The Xia dynasty
controlled/ruled many of the cities and towns along side of China s yellow river. They created
many palaces, tombs and paved the roads of China. The Xia dynasty is responsible for creating the
early bronze tools and weapons. Through scholarly arguments it is believed that the Xia dynasty
was a mythological dynasty that never existed. They ruled China up until they were overthrown by
the Shang dynasty (Judge and Langdon, 2016). Shang Dynasty The Shang dynasty were the first to
perfect the use of the Xia bronze tools and weapons. They divided the Chinese society into a
stratified society that was much like a war system. The most important people... Show more content

and alienated the people of China, that he eventually became very paranoid. Because of his

Stargirl Character Analysis
The book Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli, is about a girl named Stargirl Caraway. Stargirl
recently enrolled in a new high school after being previously homeschooled. She was different from
the other students in several ways. Stargirl wore different outfits and acted differently from the other
kids. She plays her ukulele at lunch and she is nice to everyone despite not receiving the same
treatment from the other kids. After amusing behavior at a football game, Stargirlbecomes a
cheerleader and is the most popular girl in school. However, Stargirl was cheering for the opposing
team during basketballseason, the student body turned on her. After some time during the school
year, the student body accepted Stargirl for who she was after the dance. Throughout the story,
Stargirl was treated too harshly by the other students from the first few months of school when
everything about her was being judged and through her acceptance, eventual rejection, of her by
the students. Stargirl came into the school welcoming to her new community. Her niceness was
surprising to the other students. In the hallways, she said hello to perfect strangers. The seniors
couldn t believe it. They had never seen a tenth grader so bold. (Spinelli 10). Her boldness was
also demonstrated by her participation in class where she made up songs, asked questions that
were different than the subject matter being taught, sang happy birthday to people in the lunchroom
and veering off track on the cross country team. We did not know what to make of her. In our
minds we tried to pin her a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin merely went through and away she
flew. (Spinelli 15). The activity in which Stargirl began to showcase her personality was cheerleading
. What started out as a joke to the community with her crazy dancing and cheers led to Stargirl
becoming a cheerleader for the football and basketball teams. The change began around
Thanksgiving. By December first, Stargirl Caraway had become the most popular girl in school.
How did it happen? Was it the cheerleading? (Spinelli 36). Up to this point, the students went from
questioning Stargirl s differences to accepting them in three months. Stargirl was quickly

Saudi Arabia And The Middle East Essay
Although rocky at times the U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia is extremely important aspect in
U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is a major power player within the Middle
East due to its massive oil reserves and direct influence on Islam throughout the region. Various
culture aspects of Saudi Arabia, its spread of Wahhabism and allegations of terrorist links has led to
Saudi Arabia being under direct fire on the international stage. Scott Shane, author of the New York
times article Saudi and Extremism: Both the Arsonist and the Firefighter uses the phrases arsonist
and firefighter to draw a connection to the idea that the Saudi s past and present actions are a direct
source to the current problems that the country faces. The Saudi s secular teachings of Islam, alleged
indirect funding of terrorism and spread of anti western teachings around the Middle Eastare the
highlighted points to what Shane believes makes the Saudi s arsonist in the region. Moreover, to the
same point the Saudi govt. and high ranking officials attempt to combat the very things that there
kingdom has either directly or indirectly contributed towards making them firefighters . In contrast
the counter argument that Saudi Arabia is neither the arsonist nor firefighter can be developed due
to the limited direct linkage of Saudi Arabia both abroad and in the Middle East.

Once this process has finished, the investment bank is paid a percentage of the sale as commission
as well as fees for the underwriting process. Due to the discount of the IPO from the estimate of the
market value, traditional IPOs normally trade much higher than the initial price (Clinton, 2011).
Being a long used and well known process, traditional IPOs allow for more choices of
underwriters. Using an investment bank with experience in traditional IPOs allows for the road
show to give the high profile investors a greater idea of the value of the company, and since the
allocation of shares is done during this process they can avoid over valuing the company.
Nayantara Hensel writes that underwriters who do less than three IPOs a year will average a first
day price increase of 10%. On the other hand Hensel also tells us that the average first day price
increase for all traditional IPOs is 38%, meaning a loss in the potential capitol for the company. The
investment bank underwriting for a traditional IPO normally gets a 7% underwriting fee of the
amount earned or more, bringing the potential money lost to 45 50%.
Auction Based IPO An auction based IPO uses the Internet to open a company s IPO stock for
purchase to more potential investors. This process allows a company to spend less on their
underwrite fees. The company

The Function of Different Settings in A Doll s House and Twelfth Night

The setting comparison and deliberation in this essay is between Henric Ibsen s A Doll s House
and William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night . A Doll s House deals with the social life and duty, the
woman s proper place and role within the family and the society. Twelfth Night is about illusion,
deception, disguises, madness, and the extraordinary things that love will cause us to do and to see.
The plot of the Twelfth Night takes place in Illyria, the unreal, fairy land, the land of illusions and
dreams. The beauty and the lighthearted atmosphere of Illyria influence the characters of the play.

Only at the end of the third act the noticeable change in Nora s behavior shows us the emancipation
of women in the modern period, the change in their status and rights in the society.
In both plays music is very important. Listening to the songs, Orsino enjoys the situation of being
in love with Olivia. He doesn t realize that he is in love with love and not with her. This is why he
needs music. It sustains and calms down his stormy emotions, helps him to overcome the pain of
unshared love. In A Doll s house the Tarantella symbolizes Nora s agitation at her struggle with
Krogstad and with her husband. The piano with its black and white keys symbolizes the contrasts in
the play (between Nora and Mrs. Linden, Nora and Torvald, changing in Nora s behavior between
the first and the third acts). Songs, tarantella, piano and the bell rings all together are designated to
brake tension throughout the play. The doors are also the very important part of the setting in A Doll
s House . They make an illusion of the more rooms in the house and give the ides of the positive
and negative issues in the play. Nora enters and exits through the same door. This is a
foreshadowing to the end of the third act, where she exits from the house and Torvald s life through
the same door she has entered them before. When she goes to the door of Torvald s study and
listens, it points to the gap in their relationship and to the lack

The newspaper industry is undergoing a radical change in three primary areas caused by technology.
First, the underlying two sided business model is changing. With the Advent of internet, news
content is easily and freely available from various sources but lacks quality journalism and

revenues from print advertising amp; subscription. Newspaper industry is experiencing new realm of

Revenues from circulation in 2011 have marginally increased from 2010. The difference in
revenues is $2940M $2323B = $617M and we are only recovering an estimated $118M. There is
variable cost savings associated with the loss of print subscribers but this is probably offset with
loss of advertising revenue and development costs for digital solutions.
Recommendation NYT should continue with its Paywall initiative as upwards of 40% incoming
traffic is from other sites i.e. Google, yahoo etc. Internet delivery on mobile devices is also
becoming popular. Additionally, lots of users are able to access news content via leaky paywall.
This reflects users increasing interest in accessing NYT news content in digital format. Digital
edition is in early stages for adoption by end users. New sources and models for revenue generation
or sharing are to be discovered and streamlined. Internet will become platform of choice for majority
of users in near future. New industry needs to continue exploring methods to present news content to
user preferred way and adapt to new and different streams of revenue. The digital edition is in its
growth phase heading into maturity. There is still potential to increase and development. The data
seem to indicate that the New York Times is able to identify those with more willingness to pay and
they are getting them to purchase at these increased costs. This

Kodak was the leader in bringing photography to the mass market. They held 90 percent market

market and most of its products reflected the needs and expectations of the customers. It was also
found that Kodak was successful because it largely dominated the market with over 90% market
share in 1976 (Black, 2010).Which, funnily enough, was the root of the problem. Myopic, self

Kodak was doing extremely well in the market but its failure can largely be attributed to the
leadership. This is because the company at some time lacked a visionary leadership that was able to
comprehend the changes that were taking place in the external environment and ensure that the
necessary steps were taken. For example, even though to a certain extent the failure of the company
is attributed to failing to adapt to digital technology, the greatest blame lies with the leadership. This
is because Kodak having dominated the imaging and photography industry for long, the company
was the first to develop a digital camera way back in 1975. This means that the company had the
