🍎 Classic Apple Pie Recipe

Ingredients

For the Pie Crust (makes a double crust):

 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour

 1 tsp salt
 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
 6–8 tbsp ice water

Alternatively, you can use store-bought pie crusts (2 rounds).

For the Apple Filling:

 6–8 medium apples (about 2 ½ pounds), peeled, cored, and sliced

(Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix for best flavor)
 ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
 ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar
 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
 1 tsp ground cinnamon
 ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
 1 tbsp lemon juice
 1 tsp vanilla extract
 1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces

Optional:

 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

 1 tbsp sugar (for sprinkling crust)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Pie Crust:

1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar.

2. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture
resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Add ice water 1 tbsp at a time, mixing until the dough just comes together.
4. Divide dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1
hour.

2. Make the Apple Filling:

1. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice,
and vanilla.
2. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly. Let sit while you roll out the dough.

3. Assemble the Pie:

1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

2. On a floured surface, roll out one dough disk to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Line the pan with
the crust.
3. Pour in the apple filling and dot with butter pieces.
4. Roll out the second dough disk and place over the top. Trim excess dough and crimp
the edges to seal.
5. Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
(Or create a lattice crust for a decorative touch.)
6. Brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar, if using.

4. Bake:

1. Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips).

2. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 20 minutes.
3. Reduce temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake for an additional 35–45 minutes, until
crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling.

5. Cool and Serve:

 Let pie cool for at least 2 hours before serving to allow filling to set.
 Serve warm or at room temperature with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

🍏 Tips:

 Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
 If the crust starts to brown too quickly, cover edges with foil.
 Pie can be made a day ahead and stored at room temperature.
