History Griot Research Paper
Lucy Ulrich History 94 3/15/16 Word Count: 1173
Griots were an essential part to Mali history as they both performed and preserved Mali past
through song and stories and were responsible for entire histories of Kings and their ancestors
(Griots). There were no written documents so the history of a kingdom came from only the
knowledge of the griot responsible for it. Listen to my word, you who want to know; by mouth you
will learn the history of Mali (Sundiata page 1) as said by Djeli Mamoudou Kouyate, the griot who
recounts the entire in the story of Sundiata, epic of old Mali by DT Niane, a tale depicting the
creation of the Mali empire through the events of the king Sundiata s life. This epic is a source that

Oral history is the recording, preservation, and interpretation of historical information (What). The
key word is this definition is interpretation, while oral history can state events and people from
past generations it is more the personal experiences and opinions of the person telling it. Like
many other forms of sources, it does not always state straight facts. Numerous stories in the form
of oral history can be folktales which is a tale passed down from a group of people, these tales are
usually based on superstition (Written). Instead of paper being passed down through generations
in a book, oral history is passed mouth by mouth (What). A good analogy for this way of
conveying stories is the game whisper down the lane . While a the general idea of the words or
story can reach the end, or the present generation, words can be changed, and so can the truth of the
story. It is not, however, only oral history which may not be completely accurate, all documents of
past stories add personal viewpoints and adjusted storylines. A book like Sundiata may not be one
hundred percent accurate to the reality of its time, but it is useful
Francisella Tularemia Research Paper
Introduction
Through found research, there is a vast amount of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms
that occur naturally and man made. These biological agents have the potential to negatively affect
the human body, varying from mild reaction, to even death. While each individual organism is wide
spread throughout our globe, they can be traced back to water, soil, plants, and animals. Biological
agents should be treated as potential threats due to the rapid reproduction and minimal required
resources to sustain life.
To go into a more direct approach, I will be discussing the biological agent Tularemia which is
caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis. There are two main reasons I have chosen this
biological; the first being, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly I will give prevention techniques/strategies, followed by a conclusion. Bottom line, Tularemia
is an extremely harmful agent that could be utilized by terrorist organization.
Tularemia Background Tularemia is a rare bacterial infection deriving from the bacterium Francisella
tularensis. Depending on where the exposure occurs, the effects could be different. This agent is
usually found in small animals and rodents, such as rabbits and mice. Although tularemia is subject
to humans and can be passed through humans. Some ways this bacteria can pass through humans is
through bites of infected animals, ticks, or deer flies, contact with infected animal s tissue or
contaminated water, food, or soil [...] as well as, through the lungs, eyes, mouth, nose, or skin . It is
possible to accidently infect this disease versus a proposed terrorist threat. Specific risk factors are
subject but not limited to, animal contact i.e. hunting, trapping, or butchering. This may also include,
working with infected animals, eating them, or being bit by
Hayakawa s Second Language Summary
American citizens are based on group of immigrants traveled together or separately to America and
had their citizenship there. English language is what makes them communicate between each other.
In this essay James Crawford and James Fallow argues about Hayakawa s opinion that comply
English only campaign. Before 1970s old American don t know much about diversity, which made
them wonder how much would immigrants effect their society, and the immigrants impact upon
residence. At that point, Americans started to deny immigrants and accused them of destructing their
unity, discussing political views, impacting education, and wasting the government money. Firstly,
Hayakawa established English only group that aimed to make English the only official language in
America at that time. He claimed that having one language unify people and increase the
communication between citizens. For example, he said During the dark days of World War II,
Chinese immigrants in California wore badges proclaiming their original nationality so they would
not be mistaken for Japanese...They... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem with this method is that there is no objective way to measure whether a child has
learned enough English to be placed in classes where academic instruction is entirely in English. As
a result, some children have been kept in native language classes for six years. (Hayakawa, P.7555),
in Hayakawa s given example, students might struggle in bilingual programs because they will face
difficulty translating what they ve studied in their native language to English. Not only that, but also
he mentioned that the dropout rate among the Hispanic students is 50% which is a lot! Hispanic
students are the largest group learning English separately because they are immigrants. His main
argument here is that there is no benefit of being bilingual country, if the students failed to master
The Battle Of Normandy s Operation Overlord
June 6, 1944, marked the beginning of Operation Overlord, with capturing the coast of Normandy
being the allies objective. Shortly after midnight, the allied began their invasion by parachuting
thousands of paratroopers into Normandy to bring the battle behind the German coastal defenses. At
around the same time, minesweepers began clearing channels for the invading fleet, which consisted
of over 5,000 ships. The Germans, by contrast, had around 100 total ships in the area at the time,
which heavily outnumber them. Similarly, the German air force also faced the same situation in the
air as the Nazis could only mobilize roughly about 850 aircraft in comparison to 11,000 allied
planes. The allied began commencing naval bombardment on the beaches
Variations in the Experience of Depression
Gender Differences in Depression This focus elaborates the place of gender in determining
depression levels. It states that females experience twice as much depression as men. This is as a
result of social forces and cognitive behavioral differences between women and men. The focus
notes that women in communities with distinct traditional gender roles tend to have higher stress
levels than societies where there are no major divides between gender roles. There are various
factors that cause women to have higher stress levels than men: First, girls experience more
childhood sexual violence than boys, secondly, in adulthood, women are at a higher risk of being
exposed to stressors such as poverty than men, thirdly, acceptance of social roles hit hard on women;
for example, girls worry about their body image and how boys perceive them. Fourthly, social roles
hinder women from pursuing their dreams in many communities; lastly, women give high weight to
interpersonal relationships such that when the relationships do not work out for them they get
disappointed. The issue of women experiencing higher incidence of depression is real. This is
because of the natural differences that make women the weaker sex; this makes them mores
susceptible to depression. Moreover, gender disparities imminent in some societies discriminate
against women; this discrimination makes them more prone to depression. However, with more and
more societies getting civilized and embracing gender equity, the

Baby Face Film Analysis
Baby Face, as originally produced, edited, and released in 1933, gave rise to a fierce controversy
regarding its content that perfectly exemplifies the relationship that existed then between studios,
producers, and the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA). In retrospect,
the filmseems to capture the struggle between creative effort and censorship during the Golden
Age of Hollywood. The Hays Code was the product of a rapidly changing era; a time when new
technology allowed for provocative ideas to spread as a form of entertainment. What Baby Face did
was to display the contradictions inherent in the motion picture industry and help elucidate the need
for control over production standards. The Production Code Administration emerged in 1934. It was
the organic outgrowth of a backlash to immorality in film perceived since the 1920 s (Gomery
Pafort Overduin, 2011). As an entertainment medium, film was revolutionary: all of the sudden,
vivid snippets of life could reach a mass audience. Not long after motion pictures enthralled the
country, producers began to recognize the opportunity to attract larger audiences and increase profits
by filming stories involving provocative subjects and thus stimulating the people s sense of wonder
(Gomery Pafort Overduin, 2011). A natural outgrowth of this trend was the increasingly
transgressive nature of motion pictures. In an age characterized by both economic and social
progress, a backlash against new ideas

Exploring Henry Ford (NHD)
I choose Henry Ford as my topic for NHD this year because I was interested in how cars were
made and he invented the assembly line to make them. I am starting by researching Henry Ford
on Google and in books; starting by reading Fordlandia the rise and fall of Henry Ford s forgotten
jungle city By: Greg Grandin. I am going to find my sources through google and at the library. I m
working with Julieta on NHD because I work better when I can have someone to hold me
accountable.
My topic fits the theme exploration, encounter, and exchange. To begin, Henry Ford fits the theme of
Exploration because Henry Ford explored an idea of the assembly line. For example Henry Ford had
to explore his ideas and put them to science to make sure they work.
Risk Of Piercing Research Paper
A piercing is described as a semi permanent procedure when a needle and appliance (barbell, stud,
etc.) penetrates through the skin and tissue. For hundreds of year s, piercings and body jewelry
has been a religious and ethnic experience for many cultures, but recently in the past decade
piercings have become increasingly popular.1 25 51% of young adults and teens have at least
one piercing.2 The most pierced areas are the ear and navel area. The orofacial area is becoming
more popular recently in Europe and also in the United States. This area involves the lips,
labiomental groove, cheeks, nose, and the eyebrows.1 Although these piercings are seen as a
fashion statement; they have multiple risk factors that need to be addressed such as pain,
inflammation (swelling), and infection.3 Before getting a piercing, the person being pierced should
be aware of all the risk factors accompanied with the piercing. A study found that only 25.3% of the
people getting pierced knew the serious complications like HCV cross infection. Only 17.3% were
educated about the risk of endocarditis. This same study found that barely 5% of adults getting
pierced could recognize the infectious diseases that could be transferred during the process of
piercing.4 Piercings can be the transmitters for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV),... Show more
