Ethnographic Reflection Paper
For my ethnographic report, I focused on my responses and those of the people I interacted with
in person on 8 November 2016 upon willingly choosing to give up all gadgets and devices with
internet capabilities for 24 hours. Ideally, the decision to disconnect on the 8th revolves around the
recently concluded Presidential elections in the United States. The goal was to ascertain my
responses towards every ongoing off line aspect in my life without any forms of online interaction in
order to gauge my personal understanding of socio political events and debates related to the election
. The twenty four hour disconnection began at midnight and ended on 9 November. The morning of
the election was particularly difficult due to the excitement caused... Show more content on

However, everything changed once the election results began to favor Trump. I learnt of the
changes as I shared a meal with my friends after they voted. The terror and despair we each felt
reminded me of the hyper reality Baudrillard foretold in his works about the postmodern society. In
Simulation and Simularca, Baudrillard cites the evidentiary changes observable in the postmodern
era, marked mainly by the emergence of the simulation society (McQueen, 2014, p.8). The defining
aspect Baudrillard notes of this period is the subjection, acceptance and adaptation of the hyper
reality presented in forms of media, art and photography that ultimately define the culture of this
period, effectively becoming the means of discerning and prescribing codes and models that define
everyday life for people (Baldwin, 2015). He believed that the images and spectacles immensely
mesmerize the media saturated consciousness in postmodern society that the meaning behind the
depictions becomes less significant for the people and eventually dissipates into oblivion (Deuz,
2012, p.366). In essence, media is increasingly becoming the dictator of reality for the postmodern
society and Baudrillard believed the only means of awakening people to this fact would be through
an extreme representation of reality to the point the

Analysis Of The Book Carrol
Carrol, is the casserole done yet? I m starving. I haven t eaten since 5:30. It s 5:45 now, said Carrol.
She bent down and gave a small piece of chicken to their cat, Lucky.
Exactly, said Ben through his wrinkly cracked lips, I still haven t filled up my second stomach yet,
earning a grin from gray haired Carrol, across the kitchen, leaning on the counter.
Carrol smiled and replied, We still have Alice to wait on. Oh, I m so excited. We haven t seen her in
so long.
She was interrupted by the loud chime of the doorbell. Ben leaned on his cane to stand up, and
slowly made his way to the windowless front door. Once he opened the door, Carrol heard the small
chatter of Ben and her daughter, Alice. As she took the casserole out of the oven, she heard Ben
invite her into the kitchen in his deep gruff voice.
There stood rosy cheeked Alice, with her curly blonde hair and bundled in her gray sweaters and
trench coat. Behind her stood a small, thin boy with a sniffling, red nose and wireframe glasses. He
carried a small black duffel bag on his shoulder, and wore a mud green coat.
Mom, it s so great to see you! exclaimed Alice.
Alice, you as well. Ah, who is this? Carrol said, looking back at the boy.
Oh, said Alice in her cheerful voice, This is Ethan.
He held out a gloved hand, and introduced himself, Pleasure to meet you, he said through a
congested, nasally voice. Carrol shook his hand as Ethan sniffed the kitchen air. What is that I
smell? he said.
Cast and Crew of 3 Idiots
Date: November 21, 2013 From: Anubha Bang To: Cast and Crew of 3 Idiots and Chetan Bhagat
Re:Story Credit Row 3 Idiots is the highest grossing box office hit in India s movie history. To
date, the film has collected USD 60M worldwide from theatrical ticket sales. But, 3 Idiots is better
known for the story credit controversy that surrounded its release in December 2010 than the actual
content of the movie. The author of the book Five Point Someone, from which the movie is
allegedly adapted, has accused the makers of the film from denying him due credit. This is a classic
problem in the Indian movie industry where unknown writers are pushed over by more financially
secure directors and producers. However, in this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was a fairly well known author, but having a Bollywood film under your belt is a whole
different game and he may have been all too eager to get this achievement on his resume. His
BATNA to the contract he entered in, was to not have the movie made at all and this was definitely
such an undesirable outcome for him that his reservation/indifference point was way below that of
the filmmakers . The producer of the film was aware of Bhagat s reservation point and was thus able
to strike a deal without clearly specifying the credit clause. The producer created value for himself by
withholding critical information and capitalizing on Bhagat s overindulgence in trading information.
Thus, Bhagat would have been better off by reserving some of his enthusiasm and maybe biding
time and approaching other production houses to ensure a fairer negotiation. While writing this
memo, I contacted both the parties involved and was fortunate enough to get a comment from the
author, Chetan Bhagat. He confirmed the following, At the time of signing a contract my writing
career had just started to take off and there were substantial bargaining asymmetries between an
individual author and a production powerhouse with ample financial and political muscle. So much
for the freedom of contract! Thus, if the makers were not as involved in self
Summary Of Two Cafeterias By Virginia Woolf
In the story, Two Cafeterias by Virginia Woolf, she describes two meals she was served at a
university visit. Throughout the story the author displays her underlying attitude toward women s
place in society. She began with a luncheon part[y] at the men s college. Already, it becomes very
evident that the men s mealis going to be very lavish. The lunchcommenced with soles, a fish that
was sunk in a deep dish. The chef had put the whitest cream on the sole, and made it spread so that
the spots looked like the spots on the flanks of a doe. This shows how ornamental and extravagant
the meal truly was. Next, the silent servingman brought out partridges. The men are provided
with a silent server so they can continue their extensive discussions. The partridges were
accompanied by a retinue of sauces. The men got a wide variety of sauces to meet each of their
own individual tastes, and since they are men, this is what they deserve. Soon after, the dessert
was brought out. The dessert was pudding. The author stated however, that to call it pudding was
an insult. The meal was over, but no one got up to leave. There was no need to hurry because no
one had to get up early to go to class. Life was extremely effortless for the men. Everything they
ever needed seemed to be presented to them on a silver platter. Rather than hurrying out, the servers
brought them more flushed yellow and flushed crimson wine. All the men got to sit around and talk

Cosmological Argument From Motion
To begin, we start with an a posteriori argument, or an argument from experience. Arguments from
experiences of the world to the existence of God are called cosmological arguments. This particular
argument is the argument from motion. Argument from Motion: P1. Some things are moved. P2. If
something is moved to being F, then it is potentially but not actually F. P3. If something moves a
thing to be F, then it (the mover) is in a state of actuality relevant to F. C1. If something were to
move itself to be F (e.g., be both moved and its own mover), then it would be both potentially but
not actually F and also in a state of actuality relevant to F (conjunction, modus ponens, P1 3). P4. But
it is not possible for something to be both potentially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will leave it to con to find any objections to this argument; however, I will respond to one
preemptive problem that may seemingly arise. The issue comes from a seeming contradiction
between Newton s law of inertial motion, or Newton s first law of motion, and the Aristotelian
definition of motion on which the argument above rests. The problem may be resolved in two
ways. Firstly, to assert that there is a contradiction is to equivocate between two different
definitions of the word motion. Newton s account of motion is only concerned with local motion
(motion or change in terms of place or location), while the Aristotelian is concerned with change
of every sort (quality, quantity, substance, accident, etc.). Secondly, there is no formal
contradiction. As the Thomist philosopher Edward Feser says: Suppose that motion is being used
in the two principles in the same sense. Even given this assumption, there is no formal
contradiction between them. Newton s law tells us that a body will in fact continue its uniform
rectilinear motion if it is moving at all, as long as external forces do not prevent this. It does not
tell us why it will do so. In particular, it does not tell us one way or the other whether there is a
mover of some sort which ensures that an object obeys the First Law, and which is in that sense
responsible for its
Ethical Dilemma Between Acme And Beta, And The Legal...
Businesses do not operate in isolation; they operate within a regulatory framework. This is
illustrated by the scenario between Acme Incorporated ( Acme ) and Beta Incorporated ( Beta ).
Acme registered a patent on a cancer curing drug, six months ago. Acme s president publicly
announced that they would not place the drug on the market. Beta copies and manufactures the drug,
which it then markets. They make no profit on the sale of the drug and only charge enough to cover
the manufacturing costs. Beta s actions are a clear infringement of Acme s intellectual propertyrights
and are therefore protected by law, however, there are ethical considerations to take into
consideration to determine which course of action is best for both companies. A compromise can be
reached between Acme and Beta through alternative dispute resolution rather than through a judicial
process.
The Legal Environment of Business
The legal environment of business provides principles, standards, and rules that regulate how
businesses should operate (Meiners, Ringleb Edwards, 2012). In the modern business environment,
businesses need not only be cognizant of rules and regulations in the form of legislation and
common law but are also subject to ethical, legal, social, political and international (Meiners et al.,
2012, p.20) norms. For a business to succeed it is vital for managers to understand the legal
environment to ensure that they conduct their business affairs within the parameters of the law,
Importance Of Freedom Of The Press
The freedom of the press was given to all Americans at the very start of building our union and
joining the 13 divided colonies into a more united nation. To get all the thirteen colonies to agree
on the signing of the Constitution a Bill of Rights was promised to the framers. The Bill of Rights
is comprised with ten amendments giving a sense of security to the framers in making sure that
the government won t take all power away from the citizens residing the the country. The first
amendment included in the Bill of Rights states that Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press. This freedom of the press given
to citizens was something that the framers took serious and gave great importance to. Since this
freedom lets the citizens of America know what goes on behind the scene in the governments
offices. This information is shared with the public making it so that the government doesn t keep
important information from its citizens which would prevent its citizens from speaking out in the
wrongdoing they see led by the government. Thereby not letting the government sly by and take
actions that would deem to be unfair for its people and the rights of its country. This was the kind
of tyranny the framers were concerned about, and the more a person is concerned about tyranny the
freer you want freedom of speech and press to be. One grave imprortance that freedom of the press
gave to its citizens was assurance

Self awareness and the locus of the self knowledge development: a comparison study to investigate
developmental sequences using semi structured self concept interviews.

ABSTRACT

This study examines the view that self awareness gradually develops with a shift from physical to
psychological characteristics whilst the locus of self knowledge progressively transfers from others
to the self. Previous research implementing semi structured self concept interviews to investigate self
descriptions amongst young children of various age groups supported these findings, underpinning
the theories of a gradual emergence and elaboration of the self as a subject and the self as an object
of knowledge. In the current study, a comparison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rosenberg s (ibid) findings indicated that younger children tend to describe more physical activities
and characteristics whilst this gradually develops to include relationships and interpersonal traits,
eventually shifting to more inner qualities. Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The Open University, 2010,
pp. 21 22) also found that the locus of self knowledge gradually shifted from a reliance on another
person as point of reference for judging themselves, towards the self.

This study intends to investigate, and confirm, the findings of Rosenberg (1979, as cited in: The
Open University, 2010, pp. 21 22) by analysing transcripts of semi structured interviews with two
children aged eight and sixteen. This was done within the meaning of investigating the development
of the self concept and the locus of self knowledge.

METHOD

Design

The study is a comparison of the self descriptions provided by two young people during one to one
semi structured self concept interviews.

Participants

Two participants participated in this study; an eight year old girl (Annie), and a sixteen year old
boy (Adam). They were recruited by The Open University course team who approached a primary
and secondary school in the Milton Keynes area (England), for volunteers whose parents signed the
relevant consent form. A number of volunteers were interviewed but only two of these interviews
were used for
Discrimination Towards The Lgbt Community
Throughout the years, the LGBT community has put forth tremendous effort to gain rights and
recognition in the United States. Yet there have been numerous laws that have discriminated and
made them feel unequal. LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered. Many people
in the community have a hard time accepting who they truly are in terms of sexual orientationor
gender identity. Coming out is challenging enough on its own, and laws and regulations that
discriminate against those who only wish to live freely can make it hard for them to do so. Living
in the time period we do, we have seen many changes in the right direction as far as having equal
rights for all, but it has not always been this way. There have been many movements and actions the
LGBTcommunity has taken over the years to get to where we are today. There have also been many
laws and regulations specifically targeted at same sex and transgendered individuals, some of which
that still apply today. Discrimination towards the LGBT community is not something new. Although
today it may seem normal to see two men holding hands walking down the street, forty years ago it
was almost unheard of. This is why the Supreme Court case Baker vs. Nelson made headlines. In
1972, the Court ruled that a Minnesota same sex couple had no constitutional right to marry. This all
started when two male University of Minnesota students went to fill out a marriage application form.
When the clerk denied the application

Zizek on Ideology and the Relationship Between Ideology and The Real

Slavoj Zizek is one of the leading theorists on ideology since the 1990 s and his conceptions of the
real versus the symbolic versus the imagined are of particular importance when dissecting the
question what is ideology? Zizek s critique of ideology and attempt to unpack it s inner workings is
fascinating, he is a powerful intellectual who aims to expose the fake workings of society. In this
paper I will outline Zizek s definition and approach to the study of ideology, paying particular
attention to the relationships he draws between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideology is a system, he argues, of principles, views, theories destined to convince us of its truth ,
yet actually serving some unavowed particular power interest (p.10). An example Zizek presents to
illustrate this point is the way media portrayed the conflict and cause of the Bosnian war. News
coverage consisted of innumerable accounts of the histories of not only Yugoslavia but the entire
history of the Balkan s from medieval times (p.5). This incredible amount of information, of the
struggles and relations between Bosnia and other countries over decades, if not centuries, gives
audiences the impression that they must know and understand all the background information of this
issue if they are to have an opinion on it or take sides, again presenting countless hours of
information and debate on the issue. Zizek explains that although this is a sort of inversion of what
we normally constitute as ideological messaging, and it is unlike the misrepresentation and incessant
demonization of Saddam Hussein which was circulated to give justice to entering into the Iraq war,
the Bosnian war ideological messaging that took place is in fact more cunning, the over exaggerated
and false demonization of Saddam Hussein. because to put it somewhat crudely, the evocation of the
complexity of circumstances serves
Uniting Bowl Kabbalah
The uniting bowl provides a place where everything bonds Before we create anything we should
provide a space and place for it to form. The empty bowl provides the ingredients a place to unite
and transform into dough. Since ancient time humans mixed dough ingredients in a basin before it
reached the stage of kneading. The bowl s shape caused all contents to arrive at the center at the
same time, therefore the force of mixing caused the integration between them. A woman s belly is
envisioned as a bowl of life. After mixing the materials it creates independent life. Kabbalah teaches
us that feminine energy is a vessel that receives; receiving is an active power that enables us to

You will bring: thoughts, feelings, concerns, body, and inner self. Through the process of
mindful attention, you are bringing your being into the present moment. Hold the mixing bowl
and internally ask for it to represent a readiness to be empty and receptive. From the moment that
we gather the ingredients until the end of the kneading it is an auspicious time, the gate of
heaven is open and it is important to utilize this time for prayers and requests. It is said in the
book of Genesis (48:22) I m giving you one more mountain ridge than your brothers. I took it from
the Amorites with my own sword and bow. Commentators say that my own sword means my own
prayer and that my bow means my request . The sword s power is from its own sharpness, the
bow s power depends on the archer; therefore, the more the archer pulls, the higher the arrow will
fly. As for our prayers: we have prayers that are like sword they are the ones that our sages taught
us, and they are very powerful and holy. However, we have the right to express our heart s desires,
and if we earnestly and whole heartedly express them then they can be very powerful. When we
work through the stages of creating the dough, it is an inspiring time for spiritual thoughts and for
expressing our heart s wishes. As we hold the bowl we aim
Video Games Have A Negative Influence On Young People
Modern day society often depicts video games to have a negative influence on young people.
However, playing video games is more beneficial than people would think. Playing video games has
many advantages, such as they help increase and develop cognitive functions, mental health, and
more often than most they are educational.
