Effects on the Boiling Point of water

Tymoteusz Merchel
Haupt, 5

The objective of my experiment is to identify the relationship between the definite boiling points of
distilled water, and water that has been mixed with our everyday table salt. In this experiment, the
Independent Variable will be the amount of salt I have added to the constant( our water), and the
Dependent Variable will be the boiling temperature that it reaches.

Introduction:

According to the Department of Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign,
adding salt to water increases the overall boiling point, thus reducing cooking time. It s important to
know that it does not actually speed up the boiling point, but increases the maximum temperature. To
prove this concept, we will be investigating How [does] the increase in salt (IDV) affect the boiling
temperature of water (DV)? .

Research Question:

How does the increase in salt (IDV) affect the boiling temperature of water (DV)?

Design:

Variables:

Independent:
Salt (Will be added in at different supplements)

Dependent:
Boiling Temperature ( Will hypothetically will change)

Controlled:
The amount of pure (distilled) water used in every experiment
Affirmative Action And The Civil Rights Movement
The US is a melting pot with various groups of immigration such as: Asian American, Jewish
American, African American, and Mexican Ame. Minority groups have experienced many kinds of
segregation. They are discriminated in education and employment. Then, a program called
Affirmative Action was introduced with the hope to engage more people of color into the society.
Affirmative Action is an outcome of the 1960 s Civil Rights Movement. Its purpose is to provide
equal opportunities for members of minority groups and women in education and employment. It is
not until 1961 did the term affirmative action was first used by President John F. Kennedy. He made
it very clear in an Executive Order that directed government have to take affirmative action to ensure
that applicants are employed, and employees are treated during employment, without regard to their
race, creed, color, or national origin. Since a lot of cooperation still tends to hire white male, by
enforcing affirmative action, the number of minority groups and women in the labor force will
increase.Affirmative Action helps to eliminate the imbalance in the society and reform the American
system. The US Department of Labor describes affirmative action as the banning of discrimination.
In my opinion, I support aff. Action since it gives everybody a chance to challenge themselves. Test
scores are just numbers. People with disadvantage may score lower than the white, but if based on
the scores, they will never be able
Uk Supermarket
1.0 INTRODUCTION Today s strange, new business world needs an augmented model of industry
and market analysis that reflects recent developments in industry dynamics, such as globalization,
entrepreneurship, technological advances and the internet (Slater Olson, 2002).

2.0 PORTERS FIVE FORCES MODEL FOR UK SUPERMARKET INDUSTRY Supermarkets

performance is reliant on consumer s income and their willingness to spend. The growing consumer
pressure to drive value, quality and taste requires companies with strong management teams to
understand the market trends in the industry of which this had led to constant competition among
firms in the industry. This rivalry is based on firms in the industry battling to win the highest market

Since the recession hit in 2007, more power has shifted into the hands of buyers as

supermarkets like Tesco offering the biggest discounts in the UK and Sainsbury s offering of
substitute products too (Mintel, 2010). This shows the responsiveness and flexibility towards
consumer needs in the supermarket industry.

2.3 THREAT OF SUBSTITUTES Substitutes do not entirely replace existing products but may
introduce new technology or reduce the costs of producing the same product (Porter, 1980).
Substitutes may limit the profits in an industry by keeping their prices down (Porter, 1980). The
threat of substitution is quite high in this industry because consumers are able to substitute to other
major retailers, convenience stores, niche product outlets, restaurants, bakeries, butchers and farmers
(Coriolis Research, 2004). Supermarkets like Tesco and ASDA have a range of products and
services that have close substitutes, effecting price elasticity of demand because the market is
sensitive to price (IBISWorld). The demand for a particular brand or retailer will increase or
decrease concurrent to the movement of price in comparison to its competition (IBISWorld). The
UK supermarkets are always trying to increase the quality of products and services resulting in a
constant need to differentiate products and services from competition to make them less price
sensitive.

H1n1 Influenza Pandemics
How has the Federal Government dealt with pandemic Influenza outbreaks in the past? In previous
years, there have been many outbreaks of the influenza virus in many different strains. These
outbreaks have occurred all over the world, ranging from the worst Influenza outbreak in history, the
Spanish Flu of 1918, to the first Influenzaoutbreaks of the 21st century, the Swine Flu waves of
2009 and 2010. In the United States, the federal government works closely with the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, the CDC, and the World Health Organization, the WHO, to track
seasonal influenza activity, which includes H1N1. The WHO has a Global Influenza Program that
provides global standards for influenza surveillance and collects and analyzes... Show more content

approximately one in four thousand, with the death rate exceeding one million cases.
The H3N2 Hong Kong Flu or Avian Flu of 1968 and the H1N1 Russian Flu of 1977 also appeared to
begin at an unknown location somewhere in China. In both cases, the outbreaks spread quickly and
consistently to go on and affect India, Iran, Australia, North America, and Russia. Between both
instances of these pandemics, roughly sixty thousand deaths were recorded.
In any North American pandemic occurrence, the U.S. federal government will work actively with
the CDC and the WHO to find the source of the outbreak as well as ensure that a vaccine is created
to prevent said pandemics from spreading further and resulting in more unnecessary
Setting Of The Importance Of Being Earnest Essay
Oscar Wilde s The Importance Of Being Earnest

Setting: Begins in a flat in London then proceeds to a manor house in the countryside in the late

their impending nuptials.Cast of Key CharactersJohn Jack Ernest Worthing Bon vivant [Jack to

This is Jack s Bunbury to Algy and there are many more to come. Jack hopes that this lie will
discourage any further pursuit of his true relation, guardian, to Cecily. Quote: Well if you want to
know Cecily happens to be my aunt. Critic [Jack to Algernon 6] Jack has been trying to satisfy
Algy s fanatic questioning for the explanation of the inscription on Jack s cigarette case. Jack has
said that he is Ernest in town and Jack in the country. Jack is not named Ernest. It is a phantom
brother he has invented.

Jack is going to explain his reason for lying in order to come to town, but he doesn t believe
Algernon has a somber personality to comprehend his reasons. Quote: My dear Algy, I don t
know whether you will be able to understand my real motives. You are hardly serious enough.
Martyr [Jack to Algy 6] Algy has returned the cigarette case to Jack; now, he wishes to hear the
reason Jack is Ernest in town and Jack in the country. Jack shows his bunbury to Algy. Jack is
Cecily s guardian that is why he is Jack in the country. In order to come to town he has invented a
wayward brother named Ernest.

Jack explains his reasons for lying about who Cecily really is and who he is to Cecily. He is
essentially her immediate forebear and must keep up social standards. It is his responsibility to
guard against any degrading of her values. Jack makes sacrifices to be Cecily s protector. One of his
sacrifices is that he must lie in order
Excellence Starts with Governance
Excellence Starts with Governance

The IT control environment is shaped by top management attitudes, abilities, awareness, and actions
and includes integrity, ethical values, philosophy, and operating style (Robinson, 2005). Corporate
governance and IT governance are both important for enterprise risk management (ERM). IT
governance enables regulatory and legal compliance, operational excellence, and optimal risk
management. With corporate governance and IT governance working together, the business
objectives, transparency, internal control, and accountability meet the business objectives in an
effective manner and stay compliant with regulations that govern the business industry.
The Sarbanes Oxley Act mandates transparency, clear accountability, and rigorous internal control,
which requires corporate governance and IT governance to work together. Top executives are held
accountable under the Sarbanes Oxley Act for internal controls and transparency of the
organizations. Without corporate governance and IT governance working together, the organization
would not be in compliance with this regulation. IT governance defines the IT structure, measures,
and monitoring framework and should include business value created and delivered in a cost
effective and efficient manner, risks identified and controlled, and assurance of effective oversight.
The organization s missions and strategic directions must meet business needs for IT solutions,
which requires corporate
The Downfall Of Affirmative Action
Downfall of Affirmative Action Many colleges in United States are composed of an ethnically
diverse student body. One of the reasons why the student body is full of diversity is because of the
Affirmative Action. It is the policy that gives a special incentives to minorities and women to help
promote diversity in school. Though it is a great idea to promote diversity in every college in
United States, it is also a bad idea to continue this system. Many A students who are not minorities
tend to get the same treatment as the B students who are minorities. Although accepted into school,
these students who barely met the minimum criteria may have a tougher time at school because they
may not be able to keep up with the pace of the classes since the schools have high expectations of
its students. Furthermore, students who have worked hard to get good grades might be overlooked
because the students who have lower grades will be accepted simply to fulfill the quota. Although
promoting affirmative actionis a great idea to seek diversity through different views from many
different ethnicities, it will also take away people s hard work, as well as producing more drop out
students since they cannot keep up with what the university is expecting from them. Therefore, it is
not morally justifiable or socially beneficial for the students since they may have a lower chance of
succeeding at school. Affirmative action will treat the majority students the same way as the minority
When Is Whistleblowing Ethical
To many, the revealing of companies private information is an ethically reasonable action that
deserves either less punishment than what it does today or no punishment at all. With some
punishments for whistleblowing being ostracism, harassment, and demotion, people deem the
amercements as unreasonable (Martin). These kinds of punishments are usually doled out to
whistleblowers who work for large businesses, making their work environment more hostile and
uncomfortable. Whistleblowers get themselves into these situations when they expose information
about controversial and illegal actions committed by a company in the hopes that they will face
justice or make corrections to their business. As stated by Brian Martin, a social sciences professor,...

In the article Whistleblowing: Good or Bad? Author Adrian West gives a good example of how
the boss of a business may perceive an employee trying to expose private information on them. In
this example, the reader takes the role of the boss, making it so that their perspective can connect
to whoever s reading. In it, it says, hundreds of jobs depend on you and if you meet the targets the
company will do well. This already shows what is at stake in a company if an employee were to try
to release private information. Someone exposing that information could cause the company to miss
those targets and force the boss to make unwanted decisions such as budget cuts and firing staff
members. This would affect other employees who, at work, could ve been in lower positions than the
whistleblower themself. Not only that, but the company would also have to spend more time and
money trying to fix their mistakes. That is what is seen as the most major problem of
whistleblowing. The fact that other people who aren t even involved may have to face
consequences. The article used, that is written by Adrian West, is slightly biased due to it showing
support of the side against whistleblowers. On the contrary, he does address the other side, since the
article is talking about whether it is good or bad. Regardless, he gives good information for both
arguments, but has more for his
Compare And Contrast The Federalist And The Anti-Federalists
After reading our textbook chapters for this week s assignment I was lucky to learn about the
Federalists and the Anti Federalists. The establishment of the US Constitution was brought with a
heated debate concerning the future of our nation. These certain debates basically led to the
establishment of two of the opposing camps. One of the opposing camps was the Federalists
however, there opposing opponent was the Anti Federalist. Both of their agruments concerns the role
of our national government and its power over the interest of the general public. However, they both
stood on a totally different ground. The Anti Federalists agrued that they couldn t authenticate our
Constitution which contributed our national government and legislative agency with
Animal Testing And Why It Should Continue

Animal Testing and Why It Should Continue Jeremy Bentham once said, The question is not, Can
they reason? nor, Can they talk? but Can they suffer? Animal testing is becoming a conflict right
now and I believe that Animal testing should be stopped because it is cruel and inhuman,
Alternative testing technologies exist, the lack of reliability, and it is expensive. Another quote
once said was by Martin Luther King Jr stating Never, never be afraid to do what s right,
especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake That quote is saying why do wrong
when right can be done, especially when people and animals are involved. Animals have feelings
and enjoy life as much as humans do so keeping them in captivity and testing drugs on them is cruel
and inhuman. It is understandable that animal testing is helpful, and we can t test drugs on humans,
but when alternative testing options are available there is no reason to keep animals in captivity
and test drug, harm, and kill them. Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) is a program
that was designed to begin vitro testing. This program was established by Johns Hopkins. The
CAAT was created in 1988 and funded by more than 70 corporations (Hunter). These corporations
funded this program to change animal testing a find alternative ways to test drugs other than on
animals. Millions of dollars were given to this program by these corporations to
Granger Vs Weasley
The Harry Potter books are acclaimed for a long list of attributes that make them such impeccable
literature, among these includes a collection of strong female characters. Two such characters are
Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley, both of whom have had an important impact on the series
s hero, Harry Potter. While they both play a prominent role, they are extremely different. One is a
pureblood, the other a muggleborn. One is part of a large family, one is an only child. One is
bookish, while the other is more athletically inclined. While Rowling s female characters are each a
sum of their different backgrounds, relationships, and abilities, they can still stand side by side in
battle, demonstrating their diverse, yet equally strong characters.

Hermione Granger is an only child, born to married dentists, and has never had to worry about
affording food or other materials. Much like her friend Harry, she grew up going to a regular school,
that is, until her Hogwarts letter came in the mail. While her parents may have been ... Show more

Aside from being shy around Harry for a couple years, Ginny found it easy to talk to and hang
around most people. This is due, in part, to her large family. Growing up with multiple siblings
tends to make someone an outgoing person, but having brothers so close in age opens up
possibilities for friendships outside their grade or age. In the case of Ginny, this is especially true.
While she maintained many relationships within her year at Hogwarts, having Ron, a brother only a
year older, made it easy to interact and get along with his friends, opening up a larger social circle
than Hermione ever had. Ginny also engages in more romantic relationships than Hermione. Within
the span of 3 years, Ginny participates in romantic relationships with Michael Corner, Dean Thomas,
and finally Harry Potter. Each of these are passionate relationships, and with the exception of Harry
Potter, fairly
Comparing The Scion And Cadillac Car
Cadillacs are another vehicle that is marketed based on the age of potential consumers. Cadillac has
a reputation of being associated with the older buyer whereas the Toyota Scion appeals to the
younger. These are the similarities and differences between the 2016 Cadillac ATS Coupe vs. 2016
Scion TC.

Marketing for the Scion and Cadillac is similar by adding addons to the car. With a purchase of a
new car, you are able to add specific features that do not come with the car. Both the Scion and
Cadillac appeal to a specific lifestyle and like to arrive in fashion at social gathering or party
(Solomon, 2011).

Some of how the marketing is different is the age ranges. Where the Cadillac is targeted towards the
older customer averaging 60 years
