Theory of Cognitive Development and Jean Piaget
Abstract: Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget was the first to study cognitive development systematically.
One of his major contributions is his theory of cognitive development. However, his theory has
numerous limitations and has come under frequent criticism. This essay will analyse four limitations
of Piaget s theory and provide alternative accounts. The first three limitations will be presented
through a cultural, social, neuroscientific point of view, and finally, end with the problems of
research methods used in Piaget s study to build his theory. It is found that Piaget s theory does not
combine cultural context and social context with the development itself and lacks scientific
evidence. Moreover, problems in his research methods... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, to emphasise on cultural influences on cognitive development, Carl Ratner
mentioned in the articleHistorical and Contemporary Significance of Vygotsky s Sociohistorical
Psychology that Vygotsky and Luria (1930/1993) argued that a significant cultural reconstruction
has to take place in order for the child to shift from the stage of primitive perceptions to the next
one to the stage of competent forms of adaptation to the external world For example, although
Piagets sees that children understand conservation after the pre operational stage (2 7 years),
Joseph C.Berland illustrated in his writings that Price Williams et al. (1969) showed that pottery
making children as young as 6 were able to conserve. However, it is noted by Case and Okamoto et
al. that some children from certain cultures are not able to pass conservation tests until they reach
puberty while some never pass these tests. In other words, Piaget s theory may be limited to be more
representative of children from a certain culture. Second, apart from the limitations due to Piaget
ignoring cultural influences, some are related to Piaget overlooking social influences. Without
considering the social context, such as the influence of adults or social surroundings, Piaget s theory
may not be applied to
Philosophy And The Modern Philosophy
Upon talking about the history of modern philosophy, one of the most important philosophers, who
is considered as the father of the philosophy in this period, is Descartes. He was a pioneer for the
movement of the new trend of philosophy and became a break between the medieval philosophy and
the modern philosophy. Being educated in the environment of medieval philosophy, specifically in
the school of Jesuits, Descartes received the system of scholastic philosophy as his foundation for
making a new start into the history of philosophy. In his life, Descartes tried to establish a system
of philosophy which was suitable to the development of society and science. To do that, he did not
collapse pre philosophical systems, but somehow he ignored their values. In his Meditations he
says Once in my life I had to raze everything to the ground and begin again from the original
foundations, if I wanted to establish anything firm and lasting in the sciences. Therefore, he just
could begin a new system of philosophy which, he thought, would be a certain and firm foundation
to get knowledge. However, to build up the principles for this foundation, Descartes had to use the
concept of Godin his arguments. The existenceof God became an important means for the
construction of his new philosophical system. Hence, I will emphasize on the importance of God in
this paper by discovering the role of God as a means in Descartes main points of reasoning,
particularly God with the method of

Success in Horatio Alger s Ragged Dick and the Life of Colin Powell
What does success mean to you? I think the idea of success is affected by the social system. In
America and Hong Kong, which are capitalistic societies affected by the American Dream, success
means money and fame. In other societies, success might have different meanings. Some people
said money and fame is the true meaning of success, but I think that the true meaning of success is
to follow the interest of your own and being good at it, but not money and fame. Overemphasizing
on these two factors can only lead to negative effects. Therefore I think the definition of success in
capitalistic countries should not be focused on money and fame, because it restricts ... Show more

The importance of money and fame in capitalism countries can be seen clearly in two stories that
illustrate the American Dream, Horatio Alger s Ragged Dick and the life of Colin Powell, the
secretary of State. The importance of money can be seen in Ragged Dick, Dick is said to be
successful when he had his wage raised from two dollars to six dollars. In the last sentence of the
story A young gentleman on the way to fame and fortune. It is clear that getting a good job and
earning more money is the goal of success. In the other hand, the life of Colin Powell not only
illustrates the importance of money for success, but also fame. Colin Powell, who is an African
American from a poor family in New York, struggled to become the secretary of State. He represents
the American Dream because he started from the bottom of the society and then become successful,
but what is the elements he has for people to define him as successful? Money and fame. I think
without the fame he had for being one of the most important person in the American government, the
general public would not define him as successful.
What is the problem of this fixed identity of success? I think it is because the identities lead to
overemphasize on money and fame. In the sport industry in America, it has change from promoting
sport to a moneymaking business. Many sport players initially start to play the sport purely for the
enjoyment, they practiced hard and hope that one

India is a new emerging economic power in the world. Though the 21st first decade saw a global
level financial crisis, India didn t wilt under its pressure due to it s the Government s progressive

Both imports and exports have taken a leap of 20% on an average. In July 1991 with the
announcement of sweeping liberalization dismantled import controls, lowered customs duties, and
devalued the currency... virtually abolished licensing controls on private investment, dropped tax
rates, and broke public sector monopolies.
Yet the aggregate growth data tells us that the acceleration of economic growth began earlier, in the
early or mid 1980s, long before the exchange crisis of 1991 and the shift of the government of
Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh toward neoliberal economic reforms. To the extent that we
trust aggregate national level income accounts, it is clear that by 1985 Indian aggregate economic
growth had undergone a structural break.

Fast Food Makes Up A Large Portion Of Many Millions Of...
Introduction Fast food makes up a large portion of many millions of Americans diets: every day,
one in four Americans visits a fast food restaurant (Schlosser 3). SUBWAY® is the #1 restaurant
chain in total restaurant count with 39,000 locations in 101 countries than any other fast food
industry and continue growing rapidly (Fishman, 2013). It has become the world s most
ubiquitous restaurant chain, posting armies of sandwich artists in more outposts in American
than McDonald s and Starbucks combined (Harwell, 2015). The organization now prides itself
on having one store for every 2,00,0000 people worldwide (Smith, 2012). Background and
History At the age of 17, Fred Deluca opened his first sandwich store in order to raise some funds
to sponsor his college education. The founder of Subway initially had a dream of becoming a
medical doctor but that dream did not materials due to lack funds. As a result of the challenges of
pursuing his medical career, a family friend, Peter Buck offered him a loan $1,000.00 to operate a
submarine sandwiches shop. In 1965, Deluca and Buck operated their first Joint Venture, called Pete
s Super Submarines in Connecticut. The duo struggle in the business Venture and at the end of the
summer, Deluca had only $6.00 remaining (Petrakas). Notwithstanding the challenges, Buck led to
the opening of a second restaurant, which Deluca believed the purpose was to create the image of

Writing Style Of George Orwell
Eric Blair, also known for his nom de plume George Orwell, was an English journalist, essayist,
novelist, and critic, born in Bengal, India on 25 June 1903. He wrote many essays, novels, and
assignments although his most famous novels were, Animal Farm (1945), and Nineteen Eighty Four
(1949). Even though he died shortly after writingNineteen Eighty Four, his popularity skyrocketed
with his last published book. To this day, both books are still very popular for their political
commentaries. According to Brain Pickings editor, Maria Popova, George Orwellwas a man of
unflinching idealism who made no apologies for making his convictions clear, be they about the
ethics of journalism, the universal motives of writing, or the golden rules for making tea, ... He
influenced and continues to influence popular and political culture with his fiction and journalistic
ability to defend his political convictions. The popular word Orwellian was named after the clean,
clear and direct writing style of the novelist George Orwell. He often used a writing style that
enhanced the imagery throughout, while using short words and phrases that got straight to the point.
Although, George Orwell wrote about his political convictions in simplistic form , the word
Orwellian can be seen as an adjective that describes a situation, idea, or a social condition, that
usually refers to an oppressive totalitarian government with an abundance of surveillance, a perfect
example being the society
The Hazardous Weather Situation Nate xm30 Essay
The hazardous weather situation Nate xm30
It s about 110 years when the aircraft produced by the wright brothers in 1903. Now in 2013 the
aircraft is very safe, but it s also can be affected by the hazardous weather situation. Some good pilot
said if he is a good pilot he will know all clouds and will judge the weather good or bad to fly before
they ramp out. So today I want to discuss about the hazardous weather with aviation.
Although a lot of accidents of flight most affect with the human factors. But another big factor I
think is the hazardous weather situations. If these two things combine together it s will have the high
possibility to happen an accident. Like the biggest aviation accident in 1977 years ... Show more

It s usually happened in low latitudes especially in tropical rainforest regions. May occur daily in
subtropical and temperature mid latitude areas. It s usually happen in summer, because the
temperature in summer will be hotter than any other seasons and it s easy to produce a low pressure
and high humidity. In the winter it s also happen easily because of the cold front, and ahead of the
cold front sometimes it will produce the squall line thunderstorm [I will explain it in the next].
Because it s the most common hazardous weather in the world and will produce a lot of bad effect
on airplane if the pilot fly into it. So I want to talk why it s happened and what stages it have. It will
happened with lighting and the convectional weather. It must produce in a strong cumulonimbus

it there will have wind shear or microburst and these will bad for aircraft performance and will have
a strong downward force sometimes will make the airplane crash. It usually has three specific
situations to build the thunderstorm: the humidity in air is high, High and low temperature; and a
cold front the unstable air.
Recently I fly in American so I find some information that said in the American mid west and
southern states can produce the strongest powerful thunderstorm. It s said it will happen with hails
