Case Study Of The Volkswagen Emission Scandal
Introduction

This Case Study will look into the Volkswagen emission scandal and they key corporate issues
that underline it. A case Study is a process or record of research into the development of a
particular group over a period of time. I am writing this Case Study for the purpose of researching
and analyzing how a company like Volkswagen, which was named no. 8 on Forbes fortune 500 list
in 2014, could be involved in one of the biggest scandals in this decade.

Volkswagen group sells passenger cars under Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche, Seat,
Škoda and of course Volkswagen itself and is one of the biggest car manufacturers in the World.
Unfortunately in 2015 it emerged that Volkswagen was involved in unlawful practice regarding
their diesel cars not meeting emission standards and how they tried to rectify this problem in an
unlawful manner. My paper will be divided into two key parts: The Case Study and The Case
Analysis. In the case study I will give an overview of what happened in the Volkswagen emissions
scandal, which is still ongoing, I will give a background and context to all the key parties involved
and then depict the key events that shape this scandal. Secondly, I will do the Case Study Analysis
where I will identify all the corporate governance issues and then critically evaluate if VW ... Show

Now due to poor corporate governance, a lot of people will be affected and as Howard Sherman,
head of corporate governance business development at MSCI [Member Chartered Institute for
Securities Investment] stated VW s corporate governance score at MSCI has been falling since
2014 due to management and board turmoil . So therefore there is a problem that needs to be
rectified and fix in order for VW to progress in the future. This case study will analyze the corporate
governance issues and examine exactly where Volkswagen is
Historical Background And Political Climate. Brazil Was
Historical Background and Political Climate Brazil was colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th
century when it began exporting gold and lumber. Exports later expanded to sugar, tobacco and
coffee. After the rebellion in 1889, a republican government was established. In 1937 the dictatorial
government instituted the import substituting industrialization (ISI) strategy to protect domestic
producers by employing high tariffs. State owned enterprises began expanding to oil, mining, and
banks. Restrictive labor market policies made it costly for firms to hire and fire workers so new
businesses often operated outside the formal economy. Continued state run industrialization and
extensive spending on infrastructure ended in disaster in 1982 with... Show more content on

Trade Pattern, Direction and Composition of Trade Brazil s economic history has been
influenced by foreign trade patterns and policies. Before World War II, exports were largely in
commodities such as sugar, gold, diamonds and rubber. Coffee played a major role in the
Brazilian development but Brazil was negatively impacted by the 1929 recession and as a result
coffee demand was lowered. From 1929 1931, the demand did not rebound and Brazil spent $63
million in destroying its coffee oversupply. Brazil then required reduction in Brazilian imports post
1929 to initiate industrial growth. This was specifically centered on São Paulo. In the late 1950 s,
Brazil introduced a new tariff structure and its application favored domestic producers of
manufactured consumer goods. The protection was great enough to completely eliminate competing
imports from the Brazilian market. Brazil then modified its trade policies subsequent the defeat of
the Goulart government in 1964. The government moved quickly to eliminate some of the
restrictions on Brazilian trade. It also provided special incentives for exports and tariff cuts.
Overtime, the Brazilian imports increased, due to economic growth and to a lesser extent the tariff
reforms. Between the years of 1969 1973, the economic growth was
Health And Illness Of Healthcare
Healthcare is provided by a number of different professionals to achieve the restoration of a balance
between all factors of a person s life when faced with disease, illness, injury, childbirth and surgery.
The main health care professionals that are required are doctors nurses, midwives and paramedical
personnel. This multidisciplinary team approach to health care brings a number of benefits to the
patient and many systems and processes are in place to achieve a high standard of patient outcomes.
Positive relationship between patients and the healthcare providers promotes patient centered care
and enhances outcomes. (Dwamena et al,.2012; Laine Davidoff, 1996).
Healthcare professionals build a strong network of providing healthcare driven programming,
leadership initiatives to address the ongoing challenges of providing better healthcare.

Health and illness lie on a continuum for all individuals from birth through to death. Humans are
very well organized but we rely heavily on all our systems integrating smoothly and without
problems. However when a person s internal balance changes with one system not functioning well
then a flow on of problems to other systems may occur with it including physically, psychologically
and socially. Over time other disciplines began to emerge especially as technologies expanded and it
was recognized that people often needed health services other than physical care in order to maintain
wellness.

Nazi Germany And The Nazi War
As with American boys, a German boy during the 1930 s, also had hopes and dreams of an optimistic
future. It were these dreams which provided them courage and loyalty too. However, their optimism
did not come from within their own imaginations. The Nazi government provided those hopes and
dreams through forced indoctrination.

In the 1930 s, membership of teenage boys in the Hitler Youth (Hitler Jugend or HJ) was highly
encouraged. The German government promised parents that after graduation, there would be a
bright future for their children. Also, while a member of the HJ, the children would have free room
and board, would be well cared for and provided an education. During the hard economic times in
Germany, this was a strong incentive and motivated parents to put their children in the HJ. However,
after Germany attacked Poland in 1939, Hitler declared that membership in the HJ would be
mandatory.

The HJ was a logical extension of Hitler s belief that the future of Nazi Germany was its children. As
a result, the HJ was equally as important to a child as school. Hitler had made it clear that he
expected German children to be as swift as a greyhound, as tough as leather, and as hard as Krupp s
steel. The indoctrination emphasized blind loyalty to the fatherland Germany and to Hitler himself.

In 1933, Hitler, while addressing Nazi loyalists, stated his goals for establishing the HJ where he
said: My program for educating youth is hard. Weakness
The Debate On Abortion And Stem Cells
The debate on abortion and stem cells

Consider two prominent political issue that can not be solved without taking a position in the moral
and religious disputes, lying in their basis. I m talking about abortion and embryonic stem cell
research. Some people believe that abortion should be banned because the abortion results in the
killing of innocent life. Others do not agree with abortion opponents and argue that the law should
not stand on the sides in the moral and theological debate about when human life begins. These
people argue that since the moral status of the developing embryo a question that carries enormous
moral and religious charge, the state should be neutral and to allow women to decide for themselves

Osmosis Paper
Osmosis Planning Aim To investigate osmosis in potato chips in varying concentrations of solution
(sodium chloride (Nacl) and distilled water) and its effects. To see the change in mass before and
after the effect of osmosis. Osmosis Osmosis is the movement of water from a less concentrated
solution to a more concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane. This occurs in
situations such as the movement through a cell wall, it allows smaller molecules through but not
bigger molecules. The molecules will diffuse until the area where the molecules are reach
equilibrium. Prediction I think that the increase of the concentration of the solution in the test tube
the lower the mass of the potato will be. I came... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing i had to take into account was the type of potato I used as i didn t want the results
to be affected by a change in water mass in the potato as different types of potatoes containing
varying masses of water, also some potatoes could be more pores and would end up affecting my
results and providing me with more outliers. The dependent variable is the substance that we
measure in the experiment for the purpose of my investigation the dependant variable is the potato
chips as the change in mass will allow us know the effect of osmosis, and how much effect did
occur. For my investigation i will measure the potatoes in grams for a better reading however when
drawing up my graph to compare the results I believe that using percentages will be easier and more
understandable. To hopefully achieve better results i will use the same equipments throughout just as
a precaution. Preliminary During our preliminary we used two different concentrations. Sodium
chloride and distilled water. We used both of them and compared them to each other. We chose to use
the 5 molar sodium chloride concentration and distilled water. However for the actual investigation
we would use more concentrations that would go in between the two extreme concentrations. We
used a volume of 60ml and 20ml. Then out of the two we chose the one that showed us the most
promising results to use for the main investigation. We ended up choosing the 60ml as
Marilyn Monroe, Born Norma Jeane Mortensen
On June 1, 1926 Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortensen, was born in Los Angeles
California. Growing up, Marilyn had a difficult childhood. She never knew who her father was
and her mother tried to smother her while she was in her crib. She grew up in foster care and in
orphanages. She was sexually assaulted many times and says that at the age of 11 she was raped.
At one point in her life she believed that Clark Gable was her father but there was no proof that he
knew her mother. Marilyn dropped out of school at the age of 15. Her first marriagewas in 1942 when
she was just 16 years old to her boyfriend at the time, James Dougherty. Her husband was a Marine.

It s believed Robert fell in love with Marilyn but her heart belonged to John. Although she was not in
love with Robert she still kept a sexual relationship with him.

Marilyn put herself in very dangerous situations with the people she was involved with, including
her affairs with the Kennedys. The mafia and other criminal organizations became interested in
Marilyn and her affairs. Marilyn was in psychiatric clinics because of her borderline personality
disorder and she suffered from severe emotional pain. Marilyn had severe addiction to barbiturates
and alcohol. She overdosed multiple times on drugs. Her stomach was actually pumped for drugs
quite frequently. Despite her constant visits with her psychiatrist Dr. Greenson, Marilyn s
depression progressed as her life got more complicated and difficult. Dr. Greenson believed that her
relationship with the Kennedys would be the cause of her self destruction. On August 4, 1962
Marilyn woke up to threatening phone calls. The next day August 5, 1962 Marilyn Monroe passed
away between 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm from acute barbiturate poisoning. She was just 36 years old
when she passed. Her death was ruled a possible suicide but many people believe that she had
been murdered. Marilyn left behind many mysteries about her life and to this day she is one of the
most celebrated of all actresses. Marilyn s marriage to Joe DiMaggio was one that was widely
publicized; their relationship was all over tabloids and the media even though

Goodman,Weinberg amp; Loughrey,(1995). Young children can be motivated to change their eating
behavior to approach by telling them of the risks to their health or discussing the nutrient value of
foods has not been effective. Behaviorally focused nutrition education targeted to children uses such
strategies as exposure to foods in a positive social context, modeling by peers and adults, and
appropriate use of rewards (Contento, I. et al. 1995). Robinson states (1989, p 17) information
provided by market research can be used to craft nutrition and health promotion messages aimed at
children and teenagers . For instance, this research has revealed that young children identify more
with product brands than with food categories, enjoy independent shopping experiences,
communicate their needs by pointing to what they want, and are attracted to displays and packaging
that provide opportunities for color learning, shape naming, story telling, or animal identification.

The Impacts Of Global Warming In The United States
According to the Marriam Webster Dicionary, climate is the usual weather conditions in a particular
place or region. Climate includes patterns of temperature, precipitation (rain or snow), humidity,
wind and seasons. The effect of Global warming is causing damage in many parts of United States.
In 2002, Colorado, Arizona and Oregon endured their worst wild fire season ever. (S. 2007).
Rising levels of carbon dioxide and other heat trapping gases in the atmosphere have warmed the
Earth and are causing major impacts. The rise in sea levels; melting snow and ice; more extreme heat
events, fires and drought; and more extreme storms, rainfall and floods signify the where our world
in going to without interruption.. Scientists predict that these extreme weather events will continue
and in some cases accelerate, which poses significant risks to human health. The forests, agriculture,

Essay about The Life and Accomplishments of William...
Abstract William Edwards Deming was known to many as one of the Great Quality Pioneers. He
was born in Sioux City, Iowa and eventually became a statician. He attended school in a one room
school house where he got his education early. He studied with Walter Shewhart for many years
and used his theory of statistical control as the basis of his own work. He eventually went off to
college and ended up with his Doctorate degree. He made an impact on Japan helping them to get
their economy back together after WWII. After working in Japan he came back to the United
States and was professor at many different colleges. His big break in the United States was when he

After he received his bachelor s degree he stayed at the University of Wyoming where he became
an instructor in engineering and still studied math. Deming received his master s degree in 1924 at
the University of Colorado at Boulder to become a physics teacher there. He later attended Yale to
finish with his doctorate and worked at Western Electric where he learned of Walter Shewharts
theory of quality control. After studying with Shewhart for several years Deming used his theory of
statistical control as the basis of his own work. (Wikipedia). Deming was able to help the United
States Bureau of the Census in it first sampling experiment. Then during WWII the techniques that
he used for wartime production faded away and he ended up working in Japan after they lost the war
to help rebuild their economy. While working with Japanese scientists and engineers Deming helped
their production to pick up and revenues started rising and the word spread about his principles of
quality control. Deming s 14 points for management originally started with top management. But in
order to have a successful organization Deming thought that it must be taught throughout. The
fourteen key principles for management for transforming business effectively are: 1.Create

Equipment managers may seem corny or inadequate, but without them it would be difficult for your
team to compete. According to the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) (What Is
Certification, 2008), equipment managers purchase equipment; fit equipment such as football
helmets; checks, clean, and inspect uniforms and equipment to reduce wear and risk of injury while
preserving the life of the equipment and garments as part of the budget management process; and
establish a comprehensive accountability system that includes inventory, reconditioning, and
storage. Equipment managers play a key role in intercollegiate athletics, but sports information
directors are important as well. According to Staurowsky and Abney, sports information directors are
responsible for both technical and management functions. Sports information directors basically
make sure to spread the word of an event coming up. They hand out flyers, game programs,
newsletters and a lot more stuff. Senior woman administrator is the highest ranking female

Jacob Riis Social Reform Movement
As photography was being used more and more as a method of documentation, they were among the
first to use it to push social reform efforts. They closely documented the devastating effects of
industrialization and urbanization on the working class American. Through their work they brought
attention to the need for housing and (child) labor laws. They used their medium to bring real proof
to the public and legislators, where it needed to be seen. Actually, instead of documentary
photography, it may best be called social reform photography, as they both worked tirelessly and
used the medium to force attention and to effect social change.
Riis used photography to illustrate his social reform documentary writing, he was not originally a
photographer, but he saw the drama and sense of proof photographs provided. His photographs
