Comparing and Contrasting Two Learning Theories
Comparing and contrasting two learning theories
One of the simplest and most commonly used methods of conceptualizing learning is that of
reinforcement theory (Noe 2010: 142). Every time a parent promises a child a toy for being good
during a grocery store trip or threatens a teen with being grounded for bad grades, he or she is
using reinforcement theory. Reinforcement theory is based upon the assumption that people want
to experience as much pleasure as possible and avoid pain. Thus, businesses offer workers bonuses
for good work, and issue reprimands (such as docking pay or denying a promotion) for poor behavior.
The formal method of instilling learning through reinforcement theory is to use a schedule.
According to a fixed schedule, a person is rewarded for performing the behavior a specific
number of times; according to a continuous ratio schedule, the reward occurs after every behavior,
and according to a variable ratio schedule, the reward does not occur with any predictable
consistency when the behavior is performed. The advantages of fixed and continuous rewards are
that the behavior is more quickly instilled. The advantage of a variable schedule is that the
behavior is less quickly extinguished, given the subject anticipates getting a reward for a longer
period of time (Noe 2010: 143).
Reinforcement may be effective in encouraging people to perform relatively rote tasks, but most
organizations require more complex forms of behavior to function. People must be
War s Effect On The American Voice
War s effect on Tim O Brien s contribution to the American Voice
Throughout Tim O Brien s experience as an author, his contribution to the American voice
consisted of his grandiose style of writing, using experiences from Vietnam and the Cold war to
shape his stories. His contribution to the American voice is unique as he not only includes deep
physical and psychological elements into his works, but also uses unorthodox methods to blur the
lines between what really happened to characters (and what happened to Tim O Brien during his
life). Tim O Brien s experiences in Vietnam shaped his unique writing style, while this particular
style created deep description of the physical and psychological effects of war, while incorporating
this from his own personal experience into his own works. Through Tim O Brien s use of personal
experience during the Vietnam and Cold war, he creates a uncanny style of writing that makes an
imperative contribution to the American voice.
For example, in order to make such contributions to the American voice, Tim O Brien had to use his
past experiences as a soldier in Vietnam and American citizen during the Cold War to make his
works have a unique contribution to the American voice. In Contemporary Authors Online it s stated
that O Brien s works were Based on his own combat exposure, O Brien delves into the American
psyche and the human experience as he writes not only of what actually happened, but also the
emotional and psychological impact
Who Is Wang Lung s Life In The Good Earth

The Supreme Being of the North
During the early 1900s in China, it was difficult for people of the lower class to rise out of
poverty. It was a time where the rich got richer, while the poor got poorer. Even so, in the novel,
The Good Earth, when Wang Lung is thrown into penury, he manages to rise to become prosperous.
He owes his accomplishments to the land because as a farmer, it s the land that continues to feed his
family and brings him wealth. The land itself is not a character in The Good Earth, but even so, it
plays a major role in Wang Lung s life. The land is described as a supreme being in the novel
because it brings Wang Lung success and affluence, purifies him and controls his life. Firstly for
Wang Lung, as farmer, the land is like a supreme being because it controls his wealth. It is what
keeps the family from starving and grants them luxuries. The silver he earns is so precious ... Show

Depending on the mood of the land, Wang Lung s life fluctuates. Namely, when the land is in a
good mood, Wang Lung s life is put in great prosperity. The fertile soil gives him great harvest and
allows his family to live in comfort. But when the land is in a bad mood, it s an utterly different
story. For example, when a great drought falls on Wang Lung s village, ... the fields, although Wang
Lung cultivated them desperately, dried and cracked ... when they found nothing coming from the
soil or the sky for them, ceased their growing and stood motionless... (70). This shows that the land
controls Wang Lung life because this drought causes Wang Lung and his family to move to the
South. In conclusion, the land could make Wang Lung live a resplendent life or half starved. This
shows that in the novel, the land is like a supreme being because it affects a man s life so severely
that it is much like an immortal
Essay On The Iran Deal
The debate around the Iran Deal is a funny thing. Most political debates revolving around foreign
policy focus on typical partisan divides. As a conservative, I may have ideologically been opposed
to much of the Obama era (and Trump era) policy. From the sequence of withdrawal in Iraq to
military sequestration, I wholeheartedly believe that former President Obama s foreign policy was a
complete and utter disaster.
My opposition to the Iran Deal goes far beyond ideology. It is the single most evil thing Obama did
during his eight year tenure. This deal makes America less strong, Israel far less safe, and
emboldens terrorists. For those of you who have forgotten, let s briefly review the main contents of
this travesty. The Obama ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, all of which I have said thus far is not my main objection to the deal. The most nefarious
element of the deal is the billions of dollars given in sanction relief to the American enemy of Iran,
the number one state sponsor of terror. It is hard to fathom the rationale of Obama and his aides
when negotiating this monstrosity. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Iran
will receive hundreds of billions of dollars to fuel their terror and military regime. And this truth has
since been corroborated. Just last August, details emerged of an apparent scheme between Secretary
Kerry s State Department and Iran, with approximately $1.3 billion in sanction reliefs delivered by
plane to Tehran at the same time four American hostages were released.
No one is disputing the fact that likely over one hundred billion dollars are expected to be dished
out to Iran under the Iran Deal. What is the significance of this? In 2016, the US State Department
declared Iran the number on state sponsor of terrorism. This should surprise no one, as for decades
the brutal Islamic Republic has waged war against America and Israel. Secretary Kerry himself
admitted, back in January 2016, that some of it will end up in the hands of the IRGC or other
entities, some of which are labeled terrorists. Anti semitic (and anti American) terrorist groups such
as Hamas and Hezbollah, which are insistent on waging destruction
Antinomianism In Law
To my knowledge from interning and being employed at various law enforcement agencies, it is a
crime to use company property such as gasoline to fuel personal vehicles which are not being used
for work related encounters. I believe the officer who saw the officer stealing the gas should
confront him. The officer whom is committing the wrongful act may concoct an excuse or lie which
would think in terms of be generalism. Some may say the officer whom witnessed the theft should
practice Antinomianism, who are we to judge whether the acts of others are right and wrong
(basically mind your own business). I believe if the officer is stealing the gas for an emergency such
as a hurricane evacuation then the act may be acceptable (situationism). I
Essay On How To Prevent Internet Hacking
Technology is the most essential unit in human life. One of the most important forms of technology
is the internet. The internet is used by every business all over the world. Majority of companies have
their own websites, social media accounts, company e mails, and software systems to operate within
their business. Businesses that are on the internetset an image for their company and ultimately target
customers into their business. It is also a great way for communication, whether its through e mailor
social media, the internet provides an effective way to communicate between one another. The
internet through businesses also presents some of the most vital pieces of information the company
has to offer. The internet is widely used throughout the business world, which equates to many anti
virus and protection programs throughout the computers and electronics of the business. However,
there are many groups and individual people who attempt to break into a business s website, e mails,
and software systems. There are laws that prevent internet hacking, and hackers can do severe jail
time if they are caught. Even with all the punishments a person can receive, people still try to break
into businesses websites, e mails, and software systems to either gain an edge on the company to
further themselves, or the make a statement that the anti virus and protection programming is just
not strong enough to outlast an internet hacker. There have been many companies file lawsuits
Protecting Trade Secrets Is Beneficial
Firms develop some technologies that might not be patentable, might not be worth the cost of
applying for a patent, or might be more valuable if kept undisclosed. They prefer to keep
knowledge of such processes proprietary as trade secrets, or undisclosed information. Trade secrets
are protected by legal rules against learning by rivals through dishonest means. Such protection
lapses if the technologies are discovered by fair means, such as independent inventionor reverse
engineering. Protecting trade secrets is beneficial to the extent it encourages the development and
commercial use of sub patentable inventions. Rules protecting trade secrets thus promote adaptive
innovationand encourage learning through legal means. Research and... Show more content on

R D creates externalities and is a public good, its sale or use does not preclude others using it and
can be consumed by many without lessening its value (indeed we will argue that the greater the
use of it, in many cases the higher its value). It is difficult to price ideas to sell since this requires
revealing them and avoid the need to pay. Firms with innovations to sell are therefore unable to do
so. There are of course some caveats to these problems. Only firms which are already well informed
in the relevant R D are able to understand and exploit such research innovations ie developments in
research knowledge, although difficult to exclude others from knowing, are in fact difficult to
understand and develop further without the necessary absorptive capacity (Cohen and Levinthal
1990). Only those people with considerable investment already in that area will be able to carry the
ideas forward and exploit them. Hence only those firms with substantial existing R D departments
will be in a position to commercialize the new research innovations of another producer. Problems of
appropriability are essentially about the low costs of transmitting information and if these costs turn
out to be high, then appropriability as a problem diminishes. Another caveat to the seriousness of the
appropriability problem is that firms with innovations benefit from being first in the field with
information and capture rents

Persuasive Speech On Prayer In School
Prayer in school should have been a big part for those who believe in it, but why take it out of the
schools when the majority of students take religion seriously? Well, I m going to tell you how is
happened and when and by who started this controversy. So is this considered a joking or serious
m matter? What do you think, is prayer and religion going to be handled as a joke or serious
matters in schools? What is prayer? Prayer is the act of oneself who believe in Christianity or any
type of religion. It is the act of talking or sending your thoughts and worries and asking for support
through ones god. It s like talking to a friend but receiving answers through ones faith or belief for
anyone s issues they might upon their heart. So would this be considered a joking a matter?
Honestly if you were a cold hearted closed off to the world type of person then you probably
wouldn t take someone s beliefs serious, other people however do. Prayer has always been a
controversial topic from the people who study Scientology from the people who have a really
deep faith in the word of the lord and how the earth was created and how we all came about. Well
that idea and the meaning of prayer soon changed all because of one atheist woman who believed
prayer was corrupting children and changed prayer in school and its involvement in the
curriculum forever. Well here is the hand that holds the answers! Let s ask ourselves though, how
well will prayer and religion be handled in schools? Before we answer that question, if you are a
firm believer of God the man who created all humanity and all thing let us try to understand who he
is or what he is. So who is God? While most people would like a straight forward answer of who god
is, no one has yet to answer this question, it is strictly based on one s belief and how they perceive
the image of their lord and savior. No one can explain what he looks like or even when he was born
or when he died. Most Christians and other of other religions all believe he died on a cross, but there
are many perceptions of who he is and how he died and was born. If you do believe in the lord and
savior then you ultimately understand he is who holds all the answers. Let s ask ourselves how is

A Tale Of Two Cities
Today in schools we are taught about the triumphs of human civilization. Our history classes focus
on our greatest accomplishments and a plummeting downfall. Wither that be during war or times of
enlightenment and great thinking, we view history as our teacher. This trimester alone we learned
about the great discovery of the scientific method, ideas of truth and the revolutionary ideas from the
paradigm which questioned the meaning of democracy in society. The word revolutionary means:
involving or causing a complete dramatic change. Engaged in or promoting political revolution.
Revolutionary does not mean heading in the right direction. Therefore, if change in happening,
revolution is occurring. Each revolution follows the same timeline.... Show more content on

Although the outcome of the French revolution cost many lives and was devastating for the people

security was re established.

Paradigm shifting allows for new ideas and knowledge to be accepted. When instituted, the ideas can
eliminate the old ways of thinking for the development of society. Both of the books we read this
trimester in Revolutions in Thought history and literature we analyzed the good and bad
consequences for change throughout middle age Europe. These successes are the basis of what our
culture is based on. Without the hardships endured by the people during the time period of the
literature we read, we would be the advance society we are
The Consumption Of Narcotics Nor Marijuana
Let me start out by saying that while I do not partake in the consumption of narcotics nor
marijuana I have been almost addicted to its research for years. Growing up with a family
completely against marijuana in a time when it needed to be so widely made aware of was
difficult to say the least. When I was a child I was sick and stuck on prescription pills to aid in my
ailments. Now as an adult I have chosen to not take what I do not believe my body to need. I will
usually not even take Tylenol for headaches. I have toughed illnesses and injuries out in such natural
ways and felt a million times better after rather than after drugging myself up. Painis a whole other
story, I absolutely despise narcotics and the doctors who live by them. Masking pain by putting
poison in your body is no solution and should not be seen as one. While I can understand the use
in hospitals for emergency and trauma, personal pain management at home with pills and
narcotics only sets you up for awful side effects that they combat with even more pills that give
you even more side effects. One being a loss of appetite which has been known to correct itself
with the appropriate use of medical marijuana. Before you know it, you are taking over 6 different
medications one to two times a day finding yourself addicted somewhere in the middle. America is
an embarrassing country for so many reasons, narcotic addiction being one of the biggest. Legalizing
medical and recreational marijuana is on the fast
Sociological Perspective On Marriage
Marriage can be viewed through any of the three main sociological perspectives: symbolic
interactionism, functionalism, and conflict theory. We will examine each one of these perspectives
individually. First, we will discuss marriage through the functionalist perspective. Functionalists say
that marriage fulfills the basic needs of society: economic production, recreation, sexual control, the
socialization and incorporation of children, reproduction, and the care of elders. The familyfulfills
these roles. Although different societies definitions of marriagevary widely, they all satisfy these
basic criteria in some way. Functionalists also consider dysfunctions of marriage and family. They
discuss the fact that today s nuclear families, which exclude the extended family, prevent the
distribution of stress from the family s problems and may cause the nuclear family to splinter apart.
It also lessens the accountability of the nuclear family and allows problems such as abuse or incest to
continue unchecked.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict theorists point out that conflict is a part of every marriage, and state that this conflict
comes from a struggle for power. They insist that women have been resentful of the power held by
their husbands for centuries, and have now wrested more than their fair share from their husband s
grasps. Personally, I don t put much stock in this idea; in the diagram on page 465, the chart shows
that about the same amount of couples divide decisions equally as just wives deciding, or just
husbands deciding. It s fairly close to an even split. According to conflict theory, none of these
couples should divide decisions equally; one should have the upper
