The Flood of Transplant New Yorkers
Spike Lee, Martha Stewart, Nicki Minaj, Bill Cosby and Michael Bloomberg are all connected
by invisible strands that bind them. Most would ask what is the substance of these bonds, how
could all these individuals from different worlds be connected? The individuals listed above are
all successful transplant New Yorkers (people who are not originally from N.Y.C) who went
from rags to riches. They are the inspiration for the roughly four million non natives found within
the city. Other significant reason for the huge influx of non natives are popular compositions by
Frank Sinatra and When O Henry which are New York, New York and The Duel respectively,
both of which are guilty of painting a vastly deceitful portrait of New York, which misleads
millions of individuals from near and far causing them to migrate to the city only to be faced the
sad reality. New York is not as great as it is made out to seem.
In The Duel written by When O Henry which depicts the lives of two individuals from the mid west
who relocate to New York City. One studied business the other studied art their names were William
and Jack respectfully these individuals came to New York expecting to have their cake and eat it
too. Like many others, both of them thought that in their pursuit of wealth they could uphold the
morals that they inherited from the west. William bent to the will of the city and there was no
going back, like many others before and after him he has become New Yorkized
Plural Combat Ship Essay
Since being commissioned in November 2008, the Littoral Combat Ship has received a mixed
reception. The Navy, select lawmakers and the ship s producers Austal USA and Lockheed
Martin have thrown support behind the ship, while the Pentagon has been more than critical
toward the produced models. Voyages marred by cracked hulls, technical failures and rusting are
only a selection of the ship s issues. The ship has also faced criticism of how vulnerable it is to an
attack, and during testing on one ship, some of the engines responsible for propelling the ship
forward were unusable for 45 days. As the Pentagon s test and evaluation director bluntly put it in
January, The ship is not reliable. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter has also expressed... Show more

Given the fact these ships are known for breaking down and their vulnerability against attacks, I
doubt the Navy s responding abilities would from having more Littoral Combat Ships. But there is
also one factor worth mentioning: the influence of the military industrial complex. As Chadwick and
Smith note: The shipyards in question Austal USA, in Mobile, Alabama, and Lockheed Martin s
Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin reinforced this message with hundreds of thousands of
dollars worth of lobbying from January to March 2016, according to reports they filed with the
House and Senate clerks. Lockheed said it spent $3.65 million to lobby Congress on all issues
between January and March, with an unspecified portion related to shipbuilding. Austal USA spent
$189,096 lobbying just on the shipbuilding provisions in House and Senate defense appropriations
Nazi Propaganda During The Holocaust
Although the holocaust was a terrible and sad period in time, it was a brilliant work of
propaganda and other components used by the Nazis in WWII to get the Jews into concentration
camps. The Nazis were able to control the mass media and at the same time were able to warp the
minds of people to thinking Jews were the problem. In 1929, Josef Goebbels was named the chief
of propaganda by Hitler. Goebbels really didn t use extreme propaganda on people. He kept it
simple by using slogans and images in the media which over time won the people over. At first all
the propaganda was located in newspapers and other types of media. Later after Goebbels had the
public support, he would organize large political military rallies which would also help

History Of Intermodal Containers And The World Trade Commerce
History of Intermodal Containers For a very long time people have been trading goods with each
other within their city, out of their city, and even across borders and oceans. As technology has
advanced, so has different modes of transportation to make it easier for people to get their
products that they need while shipping out products to other people. The world that we live in is
a great big place and in order for us humans to survive and grow we need ways to reach out to
other people and communicate the things that we need to do that. What I m going to be talking
about is the history of intermodal containers and how they play a big role in the world trade
commerce. It all started with a man that goes by Malcolm McLean who was born in 1913 in
Maxton, North Carolina. Malcolm started out by pumping gas at a local gas station to where he
saved up enough money to buy him a truck. From there he created McLean Trucking company,
involving his own family members and as Malcolm as one of the drivers they hauled empty
tobacco barrels as their first cargo. Since his only pick up truck in 1934 to 1770 trucks and 32
terminals in 1956, McLean Trucking became the second largest trucking company in the United
States, and the first trucking company to appear on the stock exchange. Though all of his success
early on, Malcolm sold his interest in his company and wanted to try something different. The idea
of transporting trucks on ships during World War II was around but Malcolm
Guillain Barrel Syndrome Research Paper
What is Guillain Barre Syndrome?
Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) is a rare autoimmune disease. This is where an individual s own
immune system attacks and destroy healthy body tissue. The exact cause of this syndrome is
unknown. However, once triggered the immune system begins to attack the myelin sheath in the brain
, particularly, your peripheral nervous system (PNS). The PNS connects the brain and spinal cord
(central nervous system CNS) to the rest of the body. The myelin sheath main function is to ensure
fast propagation of nerve impulses. When damaged it can often result in muscle weakness or
paralysis.
What causes GBS?
The exact causes of GBS are the subject of ongoing research. Although, the exposure to a lung or
gastrointestinal infection such as: Campylobacterjejuni infection seems to play a major role as ...

The damaged myelin degenerates and is engulfed by macrophages. When the affected nerves are
examined under the microscope, the first abnormality to be seen is the migration of inflammatory
cells and macrophages into the nerve. This is followed by destruction of the myelin. The destruction
of myelin is caused by the phenomenon: molecular mimicry where the antigen of the invading
organism is similar to the antigens on the surface of the myelin sheath, then antibodies and
inflammatory cells attack and damage the myelin. Inflammation and degeneration of the myelin
causes leakage of proteins from the blood into the CSF, causing the increased CSF protein
concentration that characterizes the disease. Also, the degenerate myelin particularly slows down
the propagation of nerve impulses along your peripheral nerves; resulting in muscle weakness or
paralysis. Fortunately, Schwann cells are not usually damaged; they are able to multiply and align
themselves along the axon to form a new myelin sheath. This is an efficient and effective process,
and full recovery can
William Bradford s Puritan Journey
Puritans were a group of English Protestants in the 16th and 17th century who endorsed strict
religious discipline and interpretation of the ceremonies and creeds of the Church of England.
Puritans are often stereotyped as boring. This stereotype is very untrue. Puritans loved and
embraced life. They were not forbidden to wear bright colored clothes. They could even participate
in things like architectural and skillful arts and crafts on American soil. They despised drunken
people, but they enjoyed small drink. They insisted on common schools, which led to them founding
the first college (Harvard). The puritans were extremely faithful and religious. They believed the
whole world was under God s complete control. They also believed that... Show more content on

He wanted the nation to become perfect and become an example for the rest of the world.
Winthrop said For we must Consider that we shall be as a City upon a hill (Winthrop, 80). In this
quote, Winthrop is saying that they must remember to act as a city upon a hill by leading an
example that everyone will see. Winthrop truly believed that with God s help, they could be the
greatest nation. ....and that the Lord our God may bless us in the land whither we go to possess
it (Winthrop 80) Here, Winthrop is saying that as long as they kept the commandments and
walked in the Lord s ways, he would bless them in their land wherever they went. Winthrop had so
much faith in the Lord that he wanted the nation to be perfect so he could give the glory to God.
However, this way of thinking led to Crevecoeur s dream for the nation. Winthrop was striving to
be a city on a hill and perfect nation. Crevecoeur, however, turned Winthrop s city on a hill dream
to a reality. Crevecoeur says we are the most perfect society now existing in the world (Crevecoeur
221). Here, Crevecoeur is stating that America is THE most perfect society in the whole world!
That is a very confident statement. Crevecoeur basically formed the American dream, by creating
such a snobby or confident outlook on the nation. However, Crevecoeur does give glory to God for
this great nation. If thou wilt carefully educate

Mcdonalds Allusion
You pull up in your car starving and craving a juicy delicious cheeseburger. As if the golden
arches are calling your name you hurry towards the pull open door. The smell of mouthwatering
fries hit your nostrils. You hop in line gazing at the albatros of a menu. You start to wonder what
you will order, a cheeseburger that you ve been craving or lovely order of chicken mcnuggets.
Suddenly, your eyes wonder over a couple inches just under the low price of that burger and you
see the calories. Your heart sinks and your greasy dream is merely a fake and lab created allusion.
If you didn t know already you know now. The items on Mcdonald s menus are completely awful.
An empire of marketing ploys, from making the fries more salty so you drink
