Edgar Allen Poe
Edgar Allen Poe

Edgar Allen Poe was a great writer and made many contributions to the works of literature. He is
known as the father of the American short story and also the father of the detective story. To
understand Poe s literary contributions, his early life, literacy life, and works must be examined.
Each aspect of his life revolves around the other.

Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston on January 19, 1809. He was born to a Southern family who
belonged in a traveling company of actors. David Poe, his father, was from a Baltimore family, was
an actor by profession, and heavily drank. Soon after Edgar s birth, David Poe left his family. His
mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, was also an actor and died of tuberculosis when ... Show more content

While in Philadelphia, he wrote as the editor of both Burton s Gentlemen s Magazine and
Graham s Magazine. He also again entered another writing contest and won another hundred
dollar prize for The Gold Bug . Even after that win, Edgar again packed up and headed for New
York. Successfully finding a job in New York, he began working as an assistant editor the
Evening Mirror. This is where The Raven first appeared on January 29, 1845. The poem
immediately caught the imagination of the public and was reprinted all over the country and even
abroad in all kinds of papers and magazines. He only pocketed a few dollars for his poems though.

The year of 1845 was a lucky year for Poe. He published a collection of his tales and an edition of his
poems named The Raven and Other Poems. He also became the editor of the weekly Broadway
Journal. At this point in time, Edgar s life was going accordingly. Then in January of 1848, his
wife Virginia died of tuberculosis. Edgar broke down from her death and died on October 7, 1849.

His death is still a mystery to the world today. On October 3, 1849, he was taken to Washington
College Hospital. The doctor attending to him no longer practiced and kept unclear notes. It is
believed that Edgar had been mugged before brought to the hospital and he was not drunk when he
arrived. Earlier in the weak he had been diagnosed with lesions on the brain . Those factors could

Strategies For Independence
5 Big Steps Parents Can Take To Help Their Kids Gain More Independence For Preschool From
social skills to language skills and all kinds of problem solving techniques, your little one is in for
some big learning when they enter a preschool program, but they could face challenges if the haven
t acquired enough independence. Although it s your paternal instinct to take care of and control
everything in their developing lives, independence is what s going to help them succeed and excel,
once they re on their own in the classroom. Here are five important steps you can take to encourage
more independence, in the most caring and supportive way: 1. Raise The Bar With Your
Expectations Expecting more from your child means they re going to have... Show more content on

As hard as it is to just stand by and watch your child, whether they re succeeding or not, they need
that space to learn, evolve and experiment, or else they re always going to be looking for you to
rescue them. Entering any preschool program, your child won t have the luxury of constant
individual attention, meaning they will have no choice but to sink or swim. Since you want
them to swim, start giving them room to self resolve issues now, while they still have you as a
safety net. Before long, they ll understand that if they want some problems solved, they have to
put on their thinking caps, use patience and take matters into their own little hands. If it seems
hard for you to cease the hoovering, just wait until you feel the total exhilaration of watching your
child accomplish something all on their own; it s such a breath taking moment for parents, you ll
automatically start giving them more room to act independently in many instances. 3. Assign A
Simple Job To Your Child You don t realize how much your child depends on you for everything,
until you ask them to do something on their own. They might look at you as if you re perfectly
out of your mind or they might even cry about the new task, but being a responsible, working
member of a team in your house is going to go a long way toward helping your child succeed in a
busy classroom. Give them a simple job they must tend to daily, showering them with affection and
praise when they accomplish
Twenty One Pilots
Most of the songs you hear on the radio nowadays are upbeat songs about relationships, love, and
partying it up. While most of these songs have a catchy tune and a nice beat, the lyrics can
sometimes be unrealistic or hard to relate to; we connect to the beat but not to the meaning behind
the words. This is not always a bad thing, but sometimes it can be refreshing to listen to a song that
hits close to home or that you can relate to your own life or experiences you have gone through. One
artist that does an incredible job of expressing extremely relatable and important subjects and
meaning through his musicis singer/songwriter Tyler Joseph. He s the mastermind behind the

He does not limit himself to any specific style and because of this his work does not fall under any
specific category. An unusual characteristic of his songs that makes his music even more eclectic
is the fact that they are poetry based, which leads to a unique combination of rapping and singing
(and sometimes even yelling) that allows him to express his emotions through vocals.Gloria K.
Fiero writes, The strong association between poetry and music suggests that the human voice [has]
a significant influence in both melody and rhythm (58). The voice of the singer is what gives the
song that distinct twist that sets it apart from others, and if the song is originally written as a poem
it gives the artist the freedom to interpret and express the lyrics however they see is best fit. Any
person is capable of singing or rapping a song, but not everyone is capable of making audiences feel
emotions simply through the power and emotion behind their
The Role Of Sex In The Dominican Family
Language and Sexuality is something you would expect to see people talking about everywhere.
But not everyone is so open to talk about it now a days when they are in public because most of
what you see people doing in being on their phone. Sitting in my grandmother s house was able to
show me the way that most Dominicans would treat the situation when sex is mentioned to how
they talk about it to the kids. Just having one hour to sit in the living room gives you an idea that it
is not talking to the kids about sex but talking about sex in front of the kids. Sitting there proved
that the more the kids hear about sex being a topic that is talked about, the more likely they all are
to get together and talk about what they would do. I decided... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I could not help but be surprised of what they talked about because I never actually expected their
conversations to ever lead that way. One of the ones that is twelve started to say that when she
was still in elementary school, she would end up going to the fifth floor bathroom with one of the
boys and they would sit on the sink and then she would kiss them. The other little girls started to
laugh and one of them said, Ew you are so nasty. Why would you do that? I m going to tell mami
and papi. She acted like she did not care and then continued to say that she went on to touch the
little boy down there and that the little boy just started to laugh. She just said that she just wanted to
try what her parents and everyone in school was always talking about. She said she wanted to feel
happy and feel the same way that everyone kept on expressing that they
Prisons And The Correctional System
Jails are the washbasins of the correctional system. They are the oldest of the correctional
components and yet it still has a difficult mission and role while having to be diverse. Jails hold a
variety of inmates, those who have been arrested, detained pending trial, sentenced to short terms of
confinement for minor crimes, and those being held for administrative transfer to another unit.
These facilities face issues such as dealing with unknown offenders, managing medical problems and
detoxifications and still provide the court with security and transportation for inmates.
Jails were first created in England and originally used in detaining offenders who were awaiting
trial. These jails were used to house the poor, and occasionally the mentally ill. The early jails had
miserable conditions to contend with such as filth, violence, poor food, and very little medical care.
To counter this, the Penitentiary Act was drafted. It created four requirements for jails: safe, sanitary
conditions, routine and systematic inspections, inmates were no longer charged fees to be there, and
it became mandatory for inmates to be confined to their cells but to be out in the common areas
during the day. This act also detailed the requirements for diets, hygiene and uniforms for the inmates
(University of Phoenix, 2011).
Early jails in the United States followed the English model and were used primarily to house those
inmates that were awaiting trial. The typical punishment for a crime was a
Fukushima Earthquake Research Paper
Introduction and Aims
There was the extremely severe nuclear disaster which was triggered by the Great East Japan
Earthquake on 11 March 2011, a level 7 disaster was declared by the International Nuclear Event
Scale because of its extensive and devastating effects. As analysing the effect of Fukushima disaster,
the radioactive fallout has effects on the human health, the environment, the agriculture and fisheries,
even has the implications for the future of nuclear power worldwide (Burnie, 2012). According to
the facts, Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disaster cannot be regarded as a natural disaster,
it was a profoundly manmade disaster that could and should have been foreseen and prevented
(BBC, 2012).

The location of the earthquake was near the Miyagi Prefecture where the Fukushima Daiichi
Nuclear Power Plant located. What is worse, the tsunami was triggered by the serious earthquake
leading to not only the flooding of the emergency generator room and the damage of the diesel
generator, but also the block on aid. Thus, without cooling system, the reactors became
overheated and finally meltdown in the next few days. On the other hand, these accidents were
recognized would happen and a relative report had be handed in to the manager by the engineer
of TPECO for several years ago. However, the company did not take the report seriously because
managers would not believe the risk is realistic. Because of the mistake of managers, the
catastrophe may eventually cause anywhere from 15 to 1,300 deaths and from 24 to 2,500 cases of
cancer, mostly in Japan, and it also had chance to damage environment all around the world (Science
Daily, 2012).

Christian Moral Reasoning
Christian moral reasoning combines two different thought processes. These processes are known as
reflection and deliberation. Reflection is the process of thinking about something, while deliberation
is the process of thinking about action. The difference is considering thought versus action. These
are important considerations when evaluating moral reasoning. One must understand that he or she
must have some moral foundation before one can think toward any moral dilemma. Reflection
creates the foundation for deliberation by considering the order in which to rationalize. It gives a
direction in which to proceed when evaluating the moralityof a situation. The correspondence
between reality and one s purpose is defined by teleology; working toward the greater good.
Therefore one must have a firm grasp on reality before developing a philosophical value... Show

The process of deliberation is an act once known as decisionism (O Donavan 4). It is believed that
moral reasoning is a discipline of ethical decision making (O Donavan 4) . Deliberation should not
only be used as a last resort, or used in only certain situations, but should be used throughout daily
life. Living a life that is supplemented with deliberation will instill virtues and give general outlines
for living a Christian life. This will not only illustrate the positive aspects of Christian life, but the
negative aspects of human nature such as impurity, superstition and hostility. The guidelines created
by deliberation and reflection of Christian moral reasoning leads to certain moral rules. These rules
can be generalized, however we attempt to make them more specific and easier to understand. Part
of increasing specificity of the rules means to illustrate exceptions. Some of the challenges faced by
creating moral rules are that contradicting God s will would by illegitimate and any exception that

The workers demanded an eight hour workday for which the average work week was sixty hours
or more. The company hired strikebreakers which were often used by this era. On May 3rd, 1886
as a protest resulted in the killing of an individual by the police, and on May 4th a mass meeting
was called to take place in the Haymarket Square to protest what was seen as police brutality. At
the meeting there were approximately 1500 people as radical speakers addressed the crowd. As
the mood of the crowd began as a peaceful meeting that quickly turned confrontational when the
police began to break up the crowd. As fights broke out, a powerful bomb was thrown. The police
began to use their guns. Seven police officers lost their lives which was later proclaimed that they
were not killed by the bomb but however from the bullets from other police officers from the
chaos of the event. Four citizens were killed and over a hundred were injured. The public was
outraged because of the event. Within the next two weeks, on the cover of a magazine, illustrations
were drawn of the bomb thrown into the crowd, cutting down police officers, and a priest giving
last rites to a police officer at the local police station, thus leading to the blame of the riot on the
labor movement and particularly the Knights of Labor.
