Women s Self-Knowledge
In her essay, What does a woman need to know? Adrienne Rich claims that women will continue to
struggle in society unless they can embrace their education and self knowledge. For instance, Rich
emphasizes that women need to learn the history of their hardships, so they are not making the same
mistakes the womanbefore them did. Rich states that women have been going through some of the
same problems for hundreds of years, which she blames on the lack of self knowledge, education,
and ignorance on the struggles women have gone through in society. More specifically, Rich
writes, Doesn t she need a knowledge of her own history, of her much politicized female body of

Which by redefining all this women are becoming worthy of what their ancestors fought for. In
addition, Rich expresses the need for woman to find their self identity through education and not just
letting the issues in society deter them from being able to have professions and educations just as
powerful and knowledgeable as men. More specifically ,Rich emphasized that women need to branch
out and make sure that they as women are educating not just themselves, but all women on their
history to help generations see power and self knowledge through education can help them
Nymph s Spinster
Sylvia Plath s Spinster was effective in presenting its view that love is unrealistic, however, Sir
Walter Raleigh s The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd was more direct. Sylvia Plath s sixains and
uneven lines contradicted the speaker s view that love is disorderly. The Nymph s Reply to the
Shepherd followed the Iambic pentameter that complimented the speaker s argument that of why love
is incredulous between an immortal and a mortal. Through tone, symbolism, imagery, and worldview
Sir Walter Raleighmanages to present the Nymph s attitude toward love in a artistic and effective
way.
Plath s tone in Spinster is cynical. The poem consist of an angry rant against love, which is
presented by Spring (Plant 22). To the speaker love isn t worthwhile ... Show more content on

The shepherd presents the nymph with flowers, shoes, and beds of roses to persuade her, but
they fail to meet the nymph s conditions, All these in me no means can move (Raleigh 19). The
gifts can t move her because with time the shepherd s gifts would, Soon break, soon wither
(Raleigh 16). The gifts are no use to the nymph as an immortal being. The symbolism in Spinster
is similar to Raleigh s because just immortality and mortality can t coexist, neither can spring or
winter. The speaker in Spinster can be tempted by spring which is a symbol of love because, Only
idiots/Reel giddy in bedlam spring (Plath 22). The speaker doesn t appreciate bird songs or other
the other beauties of spring and refers to a bird s song as Irregular babel (Plath 5). The speaker
prefers winter (isolation) because everything is in its order and there is discipline that helps the
speaker feel in control (Plath 13,14,17). Imagery in the Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd helps
reinforce the speaker s view that love is unrealistic. The imager of flowers do fade portrays how
the gifts that the shepherd offers the nymph only last for a short period of time. The gifts are a
symbol of the shepherd s love, therefore the shepherd s love will also fade. The promise of love is
unrealistic because the shepherd believes that love materialistic, which makes the shepherd s love
unrealistic because as a young man, the shepherd himself
Base Camp Research Paper
Day One: Hubert Hillmaier, Sepp Mack, Nicolas Jeager and Mingma Sherpa are starting their
hike up to base camp. They are at about 20 000 ft in altitude. This hike comes with a great risk of
avalanches. They are 35 miles away from other base camps. For people born at sea level, they are
going very slow and having a hard time along the hike. A few hours into the hike, a women was
experiencing her body shutting down. The sherpas were forced to bring her back down because if
not treated soon, she could die. A few minutes later she was not able to walk and had to be carried
down. After a long 4 hours of walking up with other people who have high altitude sickness, they
have finally made it to base camp where a lot of people were staying supporting the hikers. There
will be rescue teams and radio... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will take a least 7 hours. They also have to check for storms to be safe and save as many lives
as posible. If there is a storm, they will have to stay longer before they are able start the difficult
journey to Second Camp.

Day Seven: Sadly, there is a big nasty cloud above them that has the chance to be a pretty bad
storm. They have to stay again, trapped at base camp. Nothing to do but eat and play cards.

Day Eight: Morning comes, and they start their hike. The group makes it up a third of the way,
until they reach the ladders the have to cross, witch is one of the most dangerous parts of the
journey. Sadly, Nichilas Jeager didn t make it. The most experienced climber has fallen off the
ladder. They continue their climb, and finally make it to Camp Two. Two more camps to get to with
one climber dead, on the surface of the tallest mountain in the world, trying to get to the summit.

Day Nine: They were getting ready for their hike. They have been climbing for about one hour when
suddenly chunks of ice start heading down towards
Gugu Like The Chinese Government In Mo Yan s Frog
Frog was partly inspired by William Faulkner, in which Mo Yan, the author fictionalized his
birthplace of Gaomi County in Shandong province as Northeast Gaomi Township. Frog is about
Gugu (paternal aunt), the aunt of Tadpole , the novel s narrator that performs various abortions after
the implementation of the One Child Policy.

Mo Yan was born in 1955 to a family of farmers. His real name is Guan Moye and writes under the
penname Mo Yan. In Chinese, it literally means Don t Speak . Mo Yan s work often is
characterized by a darkly comic, sometimes surreal storytelling style. He was awarded the Nobel
Prize in literature in 2012. Making him the first resident of mainland China to receive the award.

Her role changed drastically from revered midwife to hated abortionist. Gugu s loyalty to the
Communist party was proven when she states, I have been always been a Party member, and I will
die a Party member! (Yan, 58). In addition, Gugu was assisted by her dutiful intern, Little Lion,
heartlessly placed the policy in action. They do so by forcing vasectomies, implanted intrauterine
devices (IUDs), and late term abortions on men and women.

According to Yan, I ll take a bath and burn incense before delivering babies for those who follow
family planning policy, but I ll deal mercilessly with those who go beyond one pregnancy every last
one them! She made a chopping gesture (103). Gugu loyalty to the Communist Party grew intensely
when she became the head of the planning committee. She enforced the policies with all her might.
People of Gaomi tried to retaliate with her, but each of them failed in their attempts. It was not until
several mothers died under Gugu s care that she lost her zeal in executing the policy and thought of
Pension Benefits And Benefits Of Pensions
The topic to be discussed in this research paper is that of pensions. Pensions are an important topic
in the field of accounting due to all the specific accounting methods and procedures that go along
with them as well as the fact that pensions are so widely used and can make up a large part of a
company s expenses. Within the topic of pensions to be covered in this paper fall the concepts of
the types of pension plans, pension obligations and plan assets, pension expense, as well as
various reporting issues. Pensions Pensions are a benefit that many employees receive from their
employers and come in the form of compensation that is received after they are retired (Spiceland,
Sepe, Nelson, 2013). Because these pension benefits are a type of deferred compensation, there are
certain ways that these benefits must be accounted for. This means that pension benefits are
recognized as they are earned through an accrual basis. Aside from companies providing pension
plans, people sometimes also invest in things such as IRAs, stocks, and bonds to create their own
personal pension funds. The reason that many companies offer pension plans is due to the fact that
they can help provide a sense of security for employees, increase employee satisfaction, or
sometimes so that the company can compete better in the labor market (Spiceland et al., 2013).
Types of Pension Plans Within the concept of pension plans fall two different types of pension plans:

Achilles in The Illiad is not a Hero Essay
Achilles in The Illiad is not a Hero

In the introduction of the Essential Illiad given by Sheila Murnaghan, Achilles is labeled as the
greatest of the Greek heroes . In classic mythology a hero is a person of great strength and courage
celebrated for bold exploits and is often the offspring of a mortal and a god. Achilles was the greatest
fighter among the Greeks or Trojans and feared no man in battle. He was also the offspring of a
mortal and a god so by classic mythology definition, Achilles was indeed a hero. A hero is defined by
the present day Websters Dictionary as: one who inspires through manners and actions; an individual
who leads through personal example and accomplishments requiring bravery, skill, determination, ...

During that entire time, Achilles justification for wallowing in self pity is that he has been
dishonored . This argument becomes null and void when Agamemnon offers lavish compensation
for the affront. In addition to returning Briseis, Agamemnon offers Achilles seven unfired tripods,
ten gold bars, twenty burnished cauldrons, a dozen horses, seven beautiful women from Lesbos,
twenty Trojan women, his daughters hand in marriage along with a rich dowry, and the ownership
of seven populous cities. Any reasonable person would have taken the offer but not prideful, bitter
Achilles. Instead he continues on with the same old rhetoric and refuses to fight. As if standing
idly by while his countrymen were being killed was not enough, Achilles has his mother call in a
favor to Zeus asking him to help the Trojans so that even more Greeks would die during his
absence. Not only did he abandon his comrades, he actually prayed for them to die because his pride
had been hurt.

In addition to the previously mentioned character flaws, one could argue that Achilles was also a
kidnapper, rapist and murderer. Briseis herself was a love slave. She was taken as a spoil of war
from one of the Greeks previous successful military campaigns. Even if she went willingly and
made love to Achilles willingly, it would be absolutely ludicrous to think that all of his other love
slaves (he had many) had such a good time. No one likes to be
Christ On The Sea Of Galilee
Art work has gone missing from as far back as 1930. It really hard to locate something that went
missing decades ago. Famous artifacts went missing like 10 pages of Walt Whiteman s papers,
Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee, and etc. The GSA and the FBI are working to recover
all the art that went missing and having a hard time. They are trying to recover these art work for
the public. Have you ever lost something you spend looking for days to find and 1 2 years later
you find it. Well some of these artwork went missing for decades and no one can find it.
Sometimes people who have these missing artwork and don t realize that they don t have any legal
claim on them. They inherit or found it in their grand parents attic and one day go try to sell it.
From there the dealer would check the item with the NSAF and find that the artwork are owned by
the government. That how most missing artwork are found.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The White Male Juries By Tom Robinson
Without question, Tom Robinson would be better off today.
He would be able to vote. He would have access to all public accommodations. He could win a seat
in Congress, be appointed to the Supreme Court, he could even be President.
In fact, Tom Robinson could live a life completely unimaginable and unrecognizable to the
characters in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird . No lynching s. No all white male juries. No
presumption of guilt based on skin color. No state sanctioned discrimination.
Yet, Tom would realize a sad, but undeniable truth that racism is still alive and all too well in this
country, America. He would know it in the economic injustice that has left twenty five percent of
African Americans living in poverty. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instructive words now.
Like Alabama in the 1930s, Texas in the 1950s was a place where separate never meant equal. It
was a place where colored water fountains did not spout brightly colored water as a child might
expect, but stood as symbols of racism, which meant indignity, shame, and humiliation for some and
indifference, false pride, and hate for others.
At my old school, my teachers carefully avoided any mention of race, class, or gender. Like Scout,
I learned those lessons from my family. When Scout comes to her father with questions about human
behavior, he doesn t give her advice on what to say or do. Instead, he tells her that the trick to
understanding another person is to consider things from his or her point of view. For nearly 15
years, that has been a hard thing to conquer. We trust each other to wrestle with complex choices in
the past and present so that they will better understand the social mores of our time. We encourage
them to think critically and independently in much the way Atticus, Scout s father, engages his
children.
Like some people, Scout s teacher misses an opportunity to trust her students with the complexities
of history and human behavior. Each week at Scout s school, there is a current events period where
each student clips an item from a newspaper and shares the contents with the class. In one lesson, a
child, Cecil, shares his current event: Old Adolf Hitler has been

In a mason jar (or any container with a tight fitting lid,) add in the remaining ingredients. Seal the
jar and shake well to combine. Set aside. 3. For the salad: place two generous handfuls of
watercress on a serving plate. Place in the fridge to chill. 4. Peel the beetroot, radish, and carrot.
Using Blade C, turn the vegetables into thin zoodles. Place in the fridge to chill. 5. In a non stick
pan, gently grill the halloumi slices until brown on both sides, about 3 to 4 minutes. Allow the
halloumi to cool before slicing into thin strips. 6. To assemble: pour in 2 tablespoons of the
dressing into the bowl of vegetables. Add in the chopped walnuts and sliced halloumi. Toss well
to combine. Place salad on the chilled plate of watercress. Add more dressing, if desired. Serve
immediately. Salad tip: always dress your salad greens at the last minute, then serve immediately.
This prevents vegetables and fruits from turning limp and soggy. If you are not sure if the salad
will be eaten right away, you can toss the salad at the table, and serve the dressing on the side.
Another tip to preserve the crunchiness of leafy greens is to spin dry (use a salad spinner) the
vegetables after rinsing. This quickly removes most of the moisture without damaging the fragile
