Asia Southeast Asian Nations ( Asean )
Asia, and especially East Asia, is a region that has experienced significant economic growth in a
relatively short period of time; yet it is a region without a strong regional institution. There are
several regional organizations in Asia starting with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) established in 1967 (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam), ASEANplus three (China, Japan, South Korea) in 1997, ASEAN
Regional Forum, East Asia Summit, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC), etc. Despite the
numerous regional institutions within Asia, there has not been a cohesive structure that is
prominent like that of the European Union in Europe.
In Asia, the economic growth has been phenomenal and the deepening of economic integration
and larger trade volumes have led to both developed and developing nations to experience steady
economic growth, especially at 10.1% in 2007 (ADB, 2015). Nevertheless, especially with China
s economic slowdown, the Asian region is facing problems such as decrease in labor force, labor
productivity, and overall trade growth (ADB Report, 2015). In order to consolidate economic
integration of the region, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) was implemented on December
31, 2015. The AEC is based on four pillars which are the following: a single market and production
base, a highly competitive economic region, a region of equitable economic development, and a
region fully integrated
8)Kargil Is Suffering From An Obstruction Of His Colon.
8)Kargil is suffering from an obstruction of his colon. He notices that his urine color is dark yellow.
He wonders why and asks you to explain, what is your answer?
I would tell Kargil that the darker color of his urine is due to probably increased mounts of pigment
urobilin, which give urine its normal yellow color. Urobilin is derived from urobilinogen, which is
formed in the large intestines by the action of the intestinal bacteria on the bile pigments. In an
intestine obstruction, the bile pigments cannot be eliminated by their normal route, so a larger than
normal amount diffuses into the blood where it is eliminated by the kidneys.

1)Graves Disease:
Graves disease is an immune system disorder that results in the overproduction of thyroid hormones
(hyperthyroidism). The thyroid gland is an important organ of the endocrine system. The gland is
located at the front of the neck above where the collarbones meet. This gland releases the hormones
thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), which control body metabolism. Controlling metabolism
is important for regulating mood, weight, and mental and physical energy levels. When the body
makes too much thyroid hormone, the condition is called hyperthyroidism. Graves disease is the
most common cause of hyperthyroidism and is most common in women over age 20. But the
disorder can occur at any age and can affect men as well. Some of the symptoms of Graves diseases
are
✓Anxiety or nervousness, as well as problems sleeping
✓Breast enlargement in men (possible)
✓Problems concentrating
✓Fatigue
2)Myxedema:
✓Is a condition resulting from advanced hypothyroidism, or deficiency of thyroxine. It is the
adult form of the disease whose congenital form is known as cretinism. Myxedema may be caused
by lack of iodine in the diet; by atrophy, surgical removal, or a disorder of the thyroid gland; by
destruction of the gland by radioactive iodine; or by deficient excretion of thyrotropin by the
pituitary gland. It is marked
Albert Bandura s Theory Of Learning And Development
Social learning theory proposed by Albert Bandura has become the most influential theory of
learning and development. According to Bandura, people learn from each other through observation,
imitation and modeling. Social Learning theory explains human behavior in term of continuous
reciprocal interaction between cognitive, behavioral and environmental interaction. Bandura
believed that direct reinforcement could not account for all types of learning. While the behavioral
theories of learning suggested that all learning was the result of associations formed by conditioning,
reinforcement, and punishment, Bandura s social learning theoryproposed that learning can also
occur simply by observing the actions of others. His theory added a social element, arguing that
people can learn new information and behaviors by watching other people. Known as observational
learning(or modeling), this type of learning can be used to explain a wide variety of behaviors.
Bandura explained:
Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention hazardous, if people had to rely solely on
the effects of their own actions to inform them what to do. Fortunately, ... Show more content on

The three constitutive elements of the social learning system is used in this frame work. These
elements include communities of practice, boundary process among these communities and

VIDAA Personal Statement
For as long as I can remember, I always had a strong passion for helping others and an interest in
science. As time passed, I noticed that my passion did not fade and my desire to find a career that
married the two interests grew stronger. During my Master s program, I seized the chance to
participate in Viajes Interinstiucional Integracion Docente Assistence Investigacion (VIIDAI).
VIIDAI consists of students and health care professionals that offer a variety of care and education
to underprivileged communities in rural Mexico. While on my trip, I had the opportunity to meet
the lead dentist from University of California San Diego. He showed me around the clinic,
introduced me to some of the patients, explained procedures, and allowed me to observe their work.
I instantly felt connected with my surroundings. This was when I first realized I had a strong interest
in public health medicine, particularly dentistry.
After completing graduate school, I heavily researched the right medical career for me. While

Essay on Cultural Impact of the Railway of Victorian England
Introduction
At the beginning of the industrial revolution in England during the mid nineteenth century, the
railroad was the most innovative mode of transportation known. The British Rail system was a
forerunner in railroad technology, uses, and underground engineering. Though the rail system was
extremely slow at first and prohibitively expensive to build and run, the British were not to be
dissuaded in their pursuit of non animal driven transportation. The most advanced mode of
transportation prior to the introduction of the rail system was the horse drawn omnibus on a track,
called a tram. This paper will examine the rail system from a cultural perspective, presenting the
impact the railway had on everyday lives in Victorian London ... Show more content on

Some samples of letters, also taken from Jack Simmons book, exemplify the drama of riding the
railroad:
You skim along like magic. We drove to the railway office at Warrington a short mile from the
town where we took our seats in a machine; for it was one continued machine although having the
appearance of 3 regular coaches and three divisions of seats like those in a coffee room the coaches
not open at the top the seats were. (Simmons 21)
Another writer(1) quoted in Simmons wrote, On my return to Chester I visited Liverpool [in
1836] and traveled from thence, for curiosity, a few miles towards Manchester on that then novel
mode of conveyance, a railroad. (Simmons 23) As fascinated as the public was with the railroad,
it was also exasperated by the poor service, (train arrival times were never announced and there
were accidents quite often), and the cost of riding. The train departure times were announced, but
the arrival times were never specified. To travel the length of 31 miles, the trip would take 1 3/4
hours. This rate of travel was not a vast improvement from the 3 1/2 mile per hour train trip of the
first railway. Also, trains did not run between 9:00 am and 1:00 PM on Sundays out of respect for
religious services.
During the time Dombey and Son takes place, railway mania was sweeping England. There were
numerous Parliamentary acts passed to regulate the new booming industry. To get a clear picture of
the magnitude of the mania,
Narrative Progression In Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings
Happy Endings is a short story written by Margaret Atwood. The story is different than what
readers may be used to because it doesn t follow a traditional plot line. Instead, Margaret s story
follows an experimental narrative progression . This type of story progression is a way that an
author can manipulate, contort, or obscure the 5 Stages of Plotstructure (Hillard, Point of View in
Fiction). In this essay, I will explore how experimental narrativeprogression is used in Happy
Endings , how it works in the story, how it relates to the story, and my opinion on experimental
narrative progression in Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings . How is experimental narrative
progression used in Happy Endings ? This type of story progression is used in this story because
the story as a whole doesn t go in order of a traditional plot line. The first story (the original story)
serves as the ending for each of the other versions that Margaret provides for the reader. Each of
the new versions follow the same characters as in the original story, but they lead different lives.
For example, in the original story the two characters fall in love with each other but in the next
version of that story the man doesn t love the woman even though she still loves the man. Also,
Happy Endings uses experimental narrative progression because there are several beginnings and
middles based on the story as a whole. However, there is only one ending which is the original story.
War as an Influential Force in the Jade Peony Essay
War as an influential force in The Jade Peony
The Jade Peony is a novel that concentrated on the life of early Chinese immigrants by describing
a series of stories happened in a four kid family. The novel told the reminiscences of three children
s child life in that family, therefore it was divided into three parts according to the different
characters. But apart from the family routine portrayed in the novel, it can be clearly seen in the
whole book that war, as another implied clue, played an important role in the development of the
story.
In the first place, as an overall background, Chinese civil war between Kuomintang (the party leaded
by Chiang Kai shek) and The Communist Party (the party leaded by Mao Tse tung) caused the first ...

People lived in Vancouver Chinatown were far from the flames of war, but they were so concerned
about what was happening in Old China. Not only because they cared about their hometown, but
also because they cared about their families, friends, or relatives who were still living in China.
From this point, the concern about the war that was showed by people were regarded as strong
feeling connection with Old China. Although war did not directly caused pain to people in
Chinatown, the suffering it caused in Old China was also brought to Canada. In chapter eight,
one of stepmother s childhood best friends, called Chen Suling, was killed by an explosion of a
bomb. In the beginning of this chapter, we can see Sek Lung s family was looking forward to the
Chen Suling s visit to Canada, and appreciated her talents of English. All of them, except for Sek
Lung who disliked her because he would be controlled if Chen Suling came, hoped to see her
eagerly. But a bomb turned their hope down. Stepmother felt extremely painful for losing her best
friend, just like Sek Lung said in the end of this chapter I never heard stepmother mention Chen
Suling s name again. (161). Later, with the war becoming fiercer, the social order in Vancouver also
became instable. Gangs of older, jobless boys roamed back streets hunting for Japanese. Fights broke
out. There were knifings on some
English Reflection
Growing up, English was always a struggle for me, I didn t like to read or write and, I always found
myself, especially trying to avoid reading at all costs. Up until first grade Spanish was all I knew,
so when I began school I had to learn the language everyone already knew, English. English scared
me and became difficult as I feared that I was falling behind in a subject I should have already
know. Soon I found out I was right, during the dreaded parent conferences where my parents were
told I was below reading and writinglevels. My parents tried to encourage me write and read more
but I had no interest as at the time I felt that I was always gonna be behind in English no matter
how hard I tried. Later when I got high school things changed, I took an advanced English class
just challenge myself after that class, I continued with advanced placement courses as I knew it
was time to change my mentality. After high school when I tested into English 49, I became
disappointed with my results of finding out that I needed to take English 49, as I believed my
writing skills were slightly more developed. Today I am glad that I got the opportunity to take
English 49 as with this course this semester I have improved in structuring and organizing a five
plus paragraph essay, in grammar and punctuationand, in the analysis of an author s writing.
Throughout my writing I noticed that my ideas in my paragraphs were not always organized I would
talk about one topic and then jump to the
