1. Introduction

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a scientist, teacher, author, and the 11th
President of India. He is loved for his humble nature and vision for
youth.

2. Early Life

Born in Rameswaram in 1931, he came from a poor background. He


sold newspapers to support his family and studied hard.

3. Education

He studied aerospace engineering at Madras Institute of Technology and


joined DRDO and ISRO later.

4. Scientific Achievements

He worked on India’s first satellite launch vehicle and was a key figure
in India’s missile and nuclear programs.

5. Pokhran Nuclear Test

He played a key role in the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests, making India a
strong nation in defense technology.

6. As President

He served as President from 2002–2007. Known as the “People’s


President,” he connected with youth and promoted education.

7. Love for Students


Kalam always encouraged students to dream big. His books like Wings
of Fire and Ignited Minds are motivational.

8. Simplicity and Humility

Despite his fame, he lived simply, owned very little, and focused on
service.

9. His Death

He died while giving a lecture at IIM Shillong in 2015 — a symbol of


his lifelong dedication to teaching.
